Just booked a Segway tour...a few questions...

Our group is doing one in May. One question I have that I forgot to ask when I reserved it, where do you go to get the tour???

When I booked, the CM I spoke to told me Guest Relations at Epcot, over on the other side of Spaceship Earth heading towards Mission Space and Test Track.

He said that they'd have my name on a guest list to get into the park.

We loved the Segway tour we did in February! DH is already saying he wants to do it again. Well worth the money.

When you go to Epcot, we checked in at the guest relations building that is just beyond Spaceship Earth and to the left.

I found the most difficult thing was getting on and off. The trainers were very good and reassuring.

I must confess I did have an almost oops...I panicked while still in the training room - I was going to hit one of the cones...and my initial reaction was to step off the HT...not the thing to do when you are still moving. The trainer came over and just said to trust the Segway, think stop, don't take your feet off.

After that I was fine. I had always heard that if you think go it will go, if you think stop, it will stop...it really does follow your lead.

When we were in WS, I did fine, though I was usually the last one. Didn't mind though, as it gave me more time to enjoy the views. We had about 3 extra cms on our tour of WS that brought up the rear with me. We also had our trainer, and the tour guide.

We had a couple of teens on our tour and I think they were pushing their HT to the limit. At one point on the way back at the end of the tour, we were riding single file. World Showcase was open at this point, as we did the 9:30 tour. One of the teens ahead of me, took both hands off the HT and before I could even do my motherly "Don't do that", our trainer John, shouted from behind me, "Get your hands on that Segway!"

Sorry I can't offer any information on rain.

Have a great time!

Pam

We did the Segway last May and loved it!

When you get to the park go to the entry that has the sign for the Princess breakfast. They will have a list with your name on it.

i was a bit scared and timid during training but fine once we got moving. Going into World Showcase is a blast. We had one woman on our tour that ended up crashing into some bushes at the American pavillion. She was fine just a little embarassed.

One of the best tours Disney offers - well worth the money.

Sorry can't help with the weather question - it was a beautiful day when we did it.

Do you have to pay when you book this tour? Or do you pay when you get there??

Thanks!

Hi Traci,

You do pay when you book. Remember, there is a discount for AP and AAA so if you have either of those make sure to mention it!

His opinion was that you just need to turn your brain off. Think of yourself standing on a sidewalk not a mobile unit. Let the segway do its thing. It will automatically correct itself based on your movements. When someone had problems, it was because they tried to correct their body position. In fact, he said the segway will do all the corrections necessary to stay upright. HE HAD A BLAST!

This tour sure sounds like a lot of fun. Has anyone ever done the tour solo? If so what did you think? My DH loves Epcot and we are from NH where the inventor of the Segway lives so we have been seeing it for years on the news, etc and I think he would enjoy this. On our next trip, we have planned to go with friends and there will be a total of 10 of us with 7 kids. I know my DH will become stressed at times and I was thinking about booking the Segway tour so he could have some time alone doing something I truly think he would enjoy. He is definitely not shy and I don't think he would have a problem going there alone and talking to others in the tour group (probably would be thanking me for the time away). Thanks for any input.

I'm doing it solo in May and I am fairly shy, but can't wait! I'm not the most coordinated person in the world and am hoping someone will be there who is a bigger klutz than me. If not, I have no problem laughing at myself.

Here are 2 photos of us on our Segways during the International Flower Show....we loved the trip so much, we're going to do the Segway Tour again in June 2005

Plus they stopped at each country and gave you some information about the country or about the what the buiding mean.

Oh good! I was hoping that there would some sort of WS information involved! This is the first of what I hope will be many Sagway tours. Think about it, they could train you and certify you, like SCUBA, and when you want to take a tour all you have to do is show your Sagway Certification! They could expand the length of the tours if they didn't have to train you first.

Hey! I love those pics Mister Disney! I totally forgot that I will be there for the F&G festival, so I can take pics in those frames on my Segway tour!

Yea! :earboy2:

Certifying people would be a SUPER idea....I wonder how to suggest that to them?

Also, last June during our tour the CM spoke about the possibility of a second Segway tour of the Magic Kingdom. He said the discussion was that the tour would happen prior to the park opening as to not mess with the "theming" in the various areas.

When I called to book our Segway tour for June of this year, they said that it was not available.

Has anyone heard any other rumors about a second Segway Tour?

Also....here are a few more photos from our tour....

I do NOT recommend taking the following photo.....this was taken during our training session, and I got "yelled" at for taking it (its considered behind the scenes I guess), although they didn't ask me to delete the photo.

I'm doing this tour in a few weeks. I can't wait. I just hope I am not too hung over from my birthday celebration the night before :)

Our segway tour was so much fun and worth twice what we paid for it! :goodvibes

We will do it again on our next trip! :cool1:

DH is one of the silly ones who hit the wall. It was no big deal and we all got a good laugh about it. I found it really easy to ride and very difficult to keep a stupid grin off your face the entire time! I often caught myself going "Wheeeeeee..."! :rotfl: I found it best to keep my knees bent just a bit. That seemed to give me more control. Make sure you ask your instrcutor why he has a big dent in the front of his helmet. :teeth:

The most difficult feeling for us was when we hit the speed limit. The segway leans back against you when you hit the regulated speed limit and the more you lean forward the more it leans back against you. It is a strange feeling but once you understand it, then you know that you should lean back a bit and it will stop leaning into you.

Enjoy it and try not to worry too much. We took the early tour and found very few people in the way. There were a few people at the very end of our tour but by then you felt very confident on the segway and it was fun to drive through the people. I had one lady running after me wanting to know where I rented it! :rotfl2:

I will try to include our photo. I am new at this so I hope it works. This was taken while we were stopped, or as stopped as you can get on a Segway. I suspect the instructors would not have been happy with the placement of our hands! :rotfl:

Why is this text stretching out like this! :confused3

EsmereldaX:

Since you mentioned you are a little scared/nervous, I just wanted to share my Segway Tour experience with you. My DH and I did this tour last May. I was so excited about learning to ride a Segway but during the first 5-10 minutes of training, I felt I would never be able to master it and would have to drop out of the tour. I was so nervous that I was actually shaking a bit and the Segway is so sensitive to one's movements, it started shaking, too!

But I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down and that helped a lot. I forced myself to carry on with the training and just 5 minutes later I started getting the hang of it. By the time we went out into the WS, I was the first one in the line, right behind the instructor, having no problem at all keeping up and following all of his maneuvers and having a blast!!

So I just wanted to say that the first 10 minutes of training can be a little scary but hang in there. It can take a little longer for some of us to get comfortable on a Segway so don't get concerned if others in your group seem to be picking it up more quickly than you are. We each learn at our own pace and the training session provides plenty of time for even the most poorly coordinated types (i.e., me!) to get past the nervous stage. And once you start to feel comfortable you'll find yourself grinning from ear to ear!

As others have already said, the only downside to this tour is that it's too short!! We would have loved to keep our Segways for the rest of the day!

To the person who asked if her DH would enjoy this as a solo (and as a chance to spend some time alone), yes, absolutely. We had a mix of couples and solos on our tour and there was a lot of interaction among all members of the group. It's such a unique experience, I expect he would really enjoy himself.

Thanks for sharing these great pictures everyone! Keep 'em coming. I'll post mine upon my return.

Those pics look cool! The last time that I went there, they were showing Segways at Innoventions, & I always wanted to try one. Maybe next time I go back to Disney, I'll look into it.

My DH, DS (18) and I did the Segway Tour in February. We LOVED it!!! Best money I ever spent at WDW. I was very nervous about riding the Segway. I am 53 years old and I wasn't sure I could do it. I took to it like a fish to water. I was worrying for nothing. My feet and legs got a little tired at first (you are standing a long time and you are a little tense), but after a while I relaxed and it was fine.

I highly recommend this tour to everyone. It is really BIG FUN! I thought this was a once in a lifetime event, but my husband says we will do this again next time - he loved it. The tour was a surprise for my son and he was thrilled.

Have fun!!!!!

I havent read all the replies here, but I booked this as a surprise for DH's birthday last year. He thought it was a great time...well worth the money. He was glad I gave him that.
I know they give you helmets to wear and I dont think you are near other people too much, so you should be fine. ;)
As for the rain, the day DH did it, it was off and on showers. While in the training room they werent sure if they would be able to go out. They did as it was only raining lightly. Toward the end, they cut it a little short, maybe 5 or 10 minutes(I forget what he said now) because the rain picked up. But even missing the last few minutes, he really enjoyed it.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
