Good morning all. Any big plans for the weekend. Other than some light packing, I don't have any plans. It's supposed to rain all weekend and our furnace's heat exchanger is cracked. This furnace is the one that came with the house and is 25 years old. If we were to just replace the part, something else would break so we have to get a new one. I'm going to make an appointment with Sears for a free estimate.

I work all weekend so those are my plans..

I hope you have some warm blankets or space heaters. My house is freezing!! I turned the space heater on but the dogs keep opening the door!

Just 3 more days for you!:banana:

Happy Saturday ;)

I totally forgot that my sister's Thanksgiving Break is now and that she was coming home last night. It was kind of exciting. So we just got back from coffee and breakfast and we're going to leave to see Harry Potter in a couple of minutes (it's cheaper to see the first show of the day, so that's when I go to my movies).

Other than that I have no plans other than work and house sitting. Fun, fun times, I say. Next week will be interesting though.

Hubby sent me to OSH last night to pick out a protable fireplace, it heats up a larger area than a space heater and out master bedroom has an attached office so the area to keep warm is large. We do have a space heater for DD9's room and DS2 sleeps with me in the cold weather. We also have a fireplace in the family room and one it the living room. It's hard to keep the house warm beacause of the vaulted ceilings.

The portable fireplace is really cool, the "logs" glow like real wood and the "fire" reminds me of the pillage village scean in POC

We have a fireplace in our family room but its behind the couch so it requires moving all the furniture in order to feel any heat from it.

Glad to hear you have ways to keep warm!

I work at Kaiser Santa Clara. I'm a med/surg nurse but I float to the ortho/surg floor and also to Mother/baby.
We have Kaiser, and that's our hospital :) I've only been there a couple of times though, we do our regular doctor visits at the Campbell location.

Fun! I love going to movies for the matinee price :thumbsup2 Both the teenagers saw HP last night. DH and I will try to catch it sometime in the next week or so, DD6 probably too. She saw the last one on HBO and seems to handle the scary scenes really well. She's way more brave than I was at that age.

------------------
so today is my birthday :) I got to sleep in. And then DH picked up donuts and made breakfast. Got some cards from the kids and a cozy pair of black Uggs (my request). It's 10:30 and I'm still in my PJs  Good birthday so far. :thumbsup2

Thank you, some one on the disboards made it for me back when we were training for the 2005 Disney World half marathon.

That is very nice.

It's been snowing here all day. Just wet snow in with the rain, but still snowing and cold. I am so not a winter person. I cannot wait to go home to Australia in 3 weeks. I need sun.

Kind of ironic that for 3 years I worked for the Olympic Winter Games, and for the last month I was pretty much working outside every day.

Oh and our power keeps flickering on and off. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes out completely at some point tonight. We don't get much snow in Vancouver, so when it does snow everything shuts down. Andrea (in Calgary) wouldn't even count this as snow.

Oh that would suck. I hope your power didn't go off. Just think 3 weeks and fun in the sun!!

Kaiser has the best nurses!! I can say this from personal experience. They are well trained and they give the best care.

Brr, stay warm. Have fun packing. That is the beginning of the whole process.

Ooh I am so jealous. Letting me know what you think of the movie.

Now all you need is a track of Yo ho, yo ho playing the background.

I hope you all manage to stay warm now.:goodvibes

This is what our weather has looked like the last week or so. Not my kind of weather. But I have to say I am great full for one thing that our winters do, which is kill off all the bugs every year so we don't have many big ugly creepy ones!

I like the bug thing too!!

I think I would get terribly sick of snow.

I am not a big fan of the snow. It's great when you're a kid and the cold doesn't bug you as much. We used to take advantage and go sledding and build forts. Those days were the best! Now, it's all about the driving in it, and that's just no fun at all. People here seem to forget how to drive in this weather after the summer, and it takes twice as long to get anywhere.

I hate the first few rain storms of the year. They drive like idiots.

It's usually the people in the big 4x4 trucks that think they're invincible. But those are also the people you see in the ditch several miles ahead. If you're gonna drive like that, I guess it kind of serves you right, haha.

Amazingly those are the same ones here. They are also generally the ones that nearly run Scotty off the road on his bicycle.

Drivers like that are seriously frustrating! And they are always the ones in the big expensive Escalades and BMW SUV's too. Just because you can afford an $80,000 vehicle, doesn't mean you rule the road, lol. No offense to anyone here that owns any of those!

I have found that they are worst in this area too. It is the I own the whole road persona. Scotty has known riders that have been hit and he has been brushed by them. It is not good.

Hi guys
I havent been on here for ages, I have had too much other stuff to do!!!!:confused3
I totally agree with you about SUV drivers, and we dont even have snow!
We also have maniac ute drivers, and they all seem to be "P" platers. I am not sure if you guys have "P" plate drivers? They are the ones who have just gotten their licenses & seem to think they know every thing. They are usually young men who weave in & out of traffic doing 50 kms over the speed limit.
The sad part is that most weekends there is some terrible crash & more young lives are lost!

Rachael, you can have the sun & I will take the cold. I have "English rose skin", and cant handle the heat at all. It makes me physically ill. It is so hot here already, I can only imagine how bad summer is going to be!:headache:

Hi Shelly!!

We are finally having normal weather. Although we had a few really hot days this summer we had unusually cool weather. I hope you have the same luck.

Hi Michele
I dont think we will have a cool summer, we had a really mild winter, so I am not holding my breathe.
I will just have to sit in the house with the aircon blasting!!!:thumbsup2

The air conditioner should help a lot. We live 45 miles from San Francisco and although we have some unbearable days there are no really enough to justify having an air conditioner. Especially since the utilities are so high here in California.

Hey Shelly,

I can't say I'm looking forward to January in Melbourne & Sydney. The last time we were there at that time of year it was 40+C (100+F). It was unbearable. That is too hot even for me.

I used to rent in Bellevue Hill and work at Bondi Beach, so I walked to and from work. I thought I was going to die.
