On Fri 5/10 we checked into WL at around 2:15. The very nice CM checking us in (Don) asked us if we would be interested in upgrading to conc for $45\night. We jumped on it and are soooo glad that we did. I had considered conc while we were planning this trip but couldn't seem to justify the $100+ per night. Especially since the info on these boards made it sound like perhaps conc was kind of "make shift" at this resort. Well--our expereince was just fantastic so I thought I would post my 2 cents! By way of background, the only other conc I have stayed at is the Poly...so that is my only other point of reference.

After we checked in a CM met us in the lobby and took us to the elevator to show us how to use our keys to access the 7th floor. (You just put it in a slot...just like at your room). This CM brought us to the conc floor where she introduced us to the conc staff and then left. The conc area is right as you exit the elevators. They have a little "station" but no check in desks like at the Poly. They had toys and crayons and coloring books out for the kids to play with. The conc CM greeted us and handed me a welcome packet. In it was a card with our names printed on it (which I thought was impressive since we had become conc guests like 2 minutes before that!!!!). She walked us to our rooms, stopping at the food area to exlain the offerings. I guess I was expecting something sub par since I knew the food was "in the hallway" but that is not the way it felt at all. The entire 7th floor is open and overlooks the main lobby. It is a wonderful view and a lovely location. The buffet was set up on barrels with a cute wilderness theme. I thought it was great. While there is not a seperate lounge area, there is seating and tables all around the area (again, overlooking the lobby). We really enjoyed this area and felt it had a lot of personality. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed people watching!!

Our room was great. We had a MK view---somewhat blocked by trees, but definitely the MK!). We watched the fireworks from our balcony....perfect view. WE could also see the CR, SM, main street train station and space mt....it was room 7048 and we loved it.

Here's a quick run down of the food offerings:
7-10 am, cont b-fast: this was always the same and we ate here every morning. It was a real time saver---not to mention money saver! they served 2 kinds of bagels, cream cheese, chocolate chip, blueberry and banana nut muffins, croissants, fresh chut fruit (melons and berries...very nice), cold ceral, milk, apple and orange juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate

11:30-3, rereshments: 3 kinds of cookies, gummy worms, pretzels, nut mix, lemonade and iced tea and bottled soda (oh--and always had ice and bottled water available. It was glass bottles though, and no plastic bottles were available.....we missed that one little perk of the Poly!)

3-4:30, afternoon tea: this had everything listed above and then added muffins and croissants (seemed to be the same as from b-fast)

5-7 wine and cheese: there was always veggies and dip, cheese and crackers (several kinds of each) and a soup. There was also an item from Artists Pt each evening...we sampled the game stew and the BBQ pork pull aparts on buns. BOth were very good....as was the clam chowder. I really liked that. THere were 3 different wines each evening.

8-10, cordials and desserts: almost the same desserts each evening....varied by maybe one offering. They had....cho dipped strawberries, cream puffs, cookies, lemon bars, some kind of oreo cheesecake bar, a fudge type bar with nuts and marshmallows. There were probably 6-8 different cordials. I only tried the Godiva and I really enjoyed it.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at WL conc. We felt like valued guests as everyone was friendly and attentive. We recieved several calls or messages from conc checking in on us or giving us info for the following day. We also had turn down service with WL chocolates on our bed each evening. The lodge was absolutely beautiful and we felt very "removed from it all". My only "comparitive comment" would be that the food offered is quite a bit less than at the Poly. We had "dinner" at the poly conc where as the WL was more of a snack. We would definitely return to the WL.

I'd be happy to answer any questions or give more details if there are wanted!

Thanks so much for all your details. It sounds like you had a wonderful time! We love the WL and became DVC members and now stay at the VWL.:D

Thanks so much for the review. I'd really like to stay at WL Concierge sometime (we've only ever had woods view).

:)

I'm so glad you had a great time!!!! We are very light eaters, so concierge might be worth it for us in a place like the Poly, but we still like trying all the different restaurants. Can't wait to stay at WL sometime. We still regret cancelling our ressies there last year!

So how much do you think you saved by eating breakfast and snacks during the day? I'm just wondering if it is worth the cost of upgrading. We will be there in August. If I was offered your deal I would definitely upgrade. What is the top dollar amount you would pay to upgrade?

Thanks so much for your wonderfully detailed review! We appreciate the effort and it sounds like you had a great time!! We are going to WL in October and are really looking forward to it! I have one question for you...what kind of a room reservation did you make BEFORE they asked to upgrade you? Were you paying full price for the room, or did you have any DC or AP discounts or anything else like that? I guess my real question is, is it luck of the draw to get asked for an upgrade, or do they pick the families that are already paying top dollar (for lack of a better phrase)?

I'm curious, I don't want to start a big thing since I plan on addressing a little later down the road (we're going in Feb), but since you've stayed at the Poly and WL, whcih did you like better?

Thanks for sharing with us. I have stayed at WL three times and was wondering about the new con.

I'm happy to share! Heaven knows how much info I've gotten off these boards...it's nice to have something to offer for a change.

First of all, our original reservation was for a woods view room. I was actually booked with a TA discount so we had a discounted room (50% off, in fact). I thought perhaps we were offered the upgrade because of that fact, but I don't think they even knew there was a TA there because they were supposed to ask for ID to verify the rate and they never did....?? I do wonder if it had anything to do with checking in when we did? It was about 2:15---the resort seemed quite full so perhaps they were needing to move a few guests around?? I just don't know, but I have seen others comment on the boards that they were offered a similar deal....I wish I could be of more help on this one!

As far as was it worth it....for $45/night ABSOLUTELY. For $125/night--it's hard to say. I can't put a price on the atmosphere or the extra attention. What that is worth would be different for everyone. I really don't know what the top dolllar I would pay to stay there would be. But I think it would be pushing it to say that we got $125 worth of food per day. As far as the food....we were two adults and two children (good eaters). I think we easily saved $20 for each b-fast we ate there and another $10 a day in beverages (I filled up sippy cups every chance I got). Two nights we did have our dinner here and it would have to have saved us $20+ each night we did that. Just for comparison....one evening at MGM we ordered 2 hotdogs w fries, two root beers and one ceasar salad...it came to $23 and barely filled us up. I do think that you could eat a majority of your food at con, but then again you have to be there to eat it!!

Oh--total aside...I forgot they had the crustless PBand J sandwiches as well. We love those.....

As I said before, there was definitely more food at the Poly. Especially for dinner. I feel like there is better VALUE at the Poly in terms of what you get for your money. Just my opinion....

And which did I like better....I feel I have to give a little disclaimer. When I stayed at the Poly in Jan it was just me and my 2yo DD. We only went to MGM and MK. This trip I had my other DDs (6 and 3) and we went to all four parks. So in fairness, it was just more work going with 2 children, the double stroller, etc.... I'm sure that colors what I am going to say. If I were to go again I would choose the Poly. You just can't beat the monorail. We were literally able to go from our room to the castle in under 10 minutes. Somehow the boat at WL just couldn't compete with that. Transportation was my biggest "complaint" about WL and it really wasn't all that bad. Twice we waited 20 minutes for a bus, but other than that it was 0-10 minutes. It just seemed to always take a long time to get where we were going. I think the conc staff at WL was much friendlier and much more helpful. And overall, I think the WL was more peaceful and removed from it all. Truthfully, I would be thrilled to stay at either one, but for the same $$ I would choose the Poly.

Hope this helps....:)

lornak-

Thanks again for the great information! I guess that means there's hope for all of us! I was also worried about checking in later, that we wouldn't have a good chance to get our room request - you put my mind to rest. And HOW could you forget those crustless PBJ's?? My DS thinks it would be worth it just for them!!

Thanks again,
Dana
