On Fri 5/10 we checked into WL at around 2:15. The very nice CM checking us in (Don) asked us if we would be interested in upgrading to conc for $45\night. We jumped on it and are soooo glad that we did. I had considered conc while we were planning this trip but couldn't seem to justify the $100+ per night. Especially since the info on these boards made it sound like perhaps conc was kind of "make shift" at this resort. Well--our expereince was just fantastic so I thought I would post my 2 cents! By way of background, the only other conc I have stayed at is the Poly...so that is my only other point of reference.
After we checked in a CM met us in the lobby and took us to the elevator to show us how to use our keys to access the 7th floor. (You just put it in a slot...just like at your room). This CM brought us to the conc floor where she introduced us to the conc staff and then left. The conc area is right as you exit the elevators. They have a little "station" but no check in desks like at the Poly. They had toys and crayons and coloring books out for the kids to play with. The conc CM greeted us and handed me a welcome packet. In it was a card with our names printed on it (which I thought was impressive since we had become conc guests like 2 minutes before that!!!!). She walked us to our rooms, stopping at the food area to exlain the offerings. I guess I was expecting something sub par since I knew the food was "in the hallway" but that is not the way it felt at all. The entire 7th floor is open and overlooks the main lobby. It is a wonderful view and a lovely location. The buffet was set up on barrels with a cute wilderness theme. I thought it was great. While there is not a seperate lounge area, there is seating and tables all around the area (again, overlooking the lobby). We really enjoyed this area and felt it had a lot of personality. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed people watching!!
Our room was great. We had a MK view---somewhat blocked by trees, but definitely the MK!). We watched the fireworks from our balcony....perfect view. WE could also see the CR, SM, main street train station and space mt....it was room 7048 and we loved it.
Here's a quick run down of the food offerings:
7-10 am, cont b-fast: this was always the same and we ate here every morning. It was a real time saver---not to mention money saver! they served 2 kinds of bagels, cream cheese, chocolate chip, blueberry and banana nut muffins, croissants, fresh chut fruit (melons and berries...very nice), cold ceral, milk, apple and orange juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate
11:30-3, rereshments: 3 kinds of cookies, gummy worms, pretzels, nut mix, lemonade and iced tea and bottled soda (oh--and always had ice and bottled water available. It was glass bottles though, and no plastic bottles were available.....we missed that one little perk of the Poly!)
3-4:30, afternoon tea: this had everything listed above and then added muffins and croissants (seemed to be the same as from b-fast)
5-7 wine and cheese: there was always veggies and dip, cheese and crackers (several kinds of each) and a soup. There was also an item from Artists Pt each evening...we sampled the game stew and the BBQ pork pull aparts on buns. BOth were very good....as was the clam chowder. I really liked that. THere were 3 different wines each evening.
8-10, cordials and desserts: almost the same desserts each evening....varied by maybe one offering. They had....cho dipped strawberries, cream puffs, cookies, lemon bars, some kind of oreo cheesecake bar, a fudge type bar with nuts and marshmallows. There were probably 6-8 different cordials. I only tried the Godiva and I really enjoyed it.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at WL conc. We felt like valued guests as everyone was friendly and attentive. We recieved several calls or messages from conc checking in on us or giving us info for the following day. We also had turn down service with WL chocolates on our bed each evening. The lodge was absolutely beautiful and we felt very "removed from it all". My only "comparitive comment" would be that the food offered is quite a bit less than at the Poly. We had "dinner" at the poly conc where as the WL was more of a snack. We would definitely return to the WL.
I'd be happy to answer any questions or give more details if there are wanted!
