I was just curiuos if the Norwalk virus is making it's way through Disney again. We had a great week and were due to return home at 10am on Sat. My daughter was vomiting at 3pm Fri, my son and I were vomiting by 3am Friday night/Sat Am. I woke at 7 to start my trip out and didn't think I could physically handle 3 sick kids and myself. We made ourselves though b/c to change our flights would have cost $1000!!! No joke.
We had bags and change of clothes for everyone - which we used - and it was a long trip back to Boston from Orlando. But we made it.
I was just wondering if anyone else had ever gone through a horrid experience like we did??
:scared1:

There are several viral and bacterial illnesses that have been making their way accross the entire United States this winter. People who get sick at WDW or immediately after their return think that it's "going around Disney", but in reality, it's going around the ENTIRE country. You just happened to be at WDW when it landed on you.

It's a terrible thing to get sick on vacation or when travelling. I've been through it myself in the past, and I sure don't like it.

Well I just got sick this weekend and I leave for Disney next week. So I won't have to worry about catching anything over there.

I know on the Podcast a few weeks ago Pete said Norwalk Virus seemed to be going through the resorts.

Yeah, it has been going through where I work. Past 2 weeks, we had daily call offs due to this virus.

ack sorry you were sick on your trip!!

I was sick when I GOT to Disney, but the Magic cured me right up! Nothing like Florida sunshine and a bit of relaxing time to get rid of the flu.

we were there, and we had a cold, not stomach virus. However, we had some friends there, in total about 20, and 1 person did come down with it. We were all lucky to miss it, and how only she came down with it, we aren't sure.

we did use Purell non-stop.

My worse fear is to have to fly when I'm ill.
So sorry you had to do this with 3 kids no less!!!

I got soooo sick when we were down there in November. It was our second to last day. I lost 4 pounds! I hadn't been that sick in forever. It was horrible. I had to stay in bed with the (all too) occasional burst to the bathroom. At least we were at the Poly and I could look outside and see the castle from the window. that was the only good thing that saved me from wanting to die from being sick in disney.

We were in Disney in early Oct for our son's 7th bday. The day we left to come home our son got terribly ill. We were at the airport waiting for our flight to take off and our son kept telling us he didnt feel well...that his little tummy hurt. Well I just thought it was nerves to fly (although he has done it over 20 times in his short life that is what I kept trying to tell myself) As we made our way to board the airplane (in line with like 100 other people) our DS began to throw up everywhere. To make a long story short he threw up every 20 min of our 2 hour flight home:scared: and continued to throw up until late that evening. It is a flight that we will NEVER forget. I hope everyone is on the mend at your house!

I think this is true- everyone around HERE (Texas) is sick right now too! It's going around everywhere.
However, when you're at a place like WDW several things work against you that up your risks of getting sick even more- way more people you're around and yes, some people will go to WDW while sick or before they realize they are sick. Also you're on the go more (run down/tired and/or lack of sleep can lower your immune system temporarily), you might be eating foods you aren't used to eating (especially if you have children who have adventurous palates and take advantage of that while on the vacation), the heat and being in the sun more, etc.
So your risk of getting sick is higher when going any place like WDW- but really everyone is getting sick everywhere. It's really crazy how many people are sick!

I'm so sorry you had to go thru that flight with everyone sick. :(

We also were super sick when we were there. My ds6 started with 104 temp, I was hit next with the cold from #%*&(&. Ds cane down with it 2 days later. Both boys colds developed into ear infections and dh was sick 3 days before we left. We still went to the parks but we were drugged up and took long naps in the afternoon. I have not been that sick in a very long time.

The plane ride home was not fun ds6 did not want to move and ds3 was in a lot of pain with his ears. I am sure we did not catch it at disney though as ds6 was sick as soon as we got there.

We probably infected many there and on the plane. Sorry if one of them was any of you:sad2:

I was there alone with my 6 yr old dd 2/17-24. On the afternoon of the 19th I was throwing up every 1/2 hour for 2 days. Luckily a friend from home was also on vacation and she took my daughter to the parks for 2 days, and since it was President's week I couldn't get a flight home earlier. I felt like garbage for a week after too.....sooo miserable.

My DS9 and I were there Feb 8-11. I got sick the 9th with chills, a 104 degree temperature, congestion. Pretty much ruined our trip. My DS was a trooper though. Went to the hotel store and stocked mom up with meds and drinks. I took him to the pool and he was pretty content to do that. I did crawl out of bed for a couple hours each day to take him to a park. I was still having chills the day we left - all I wanted was to be home. Ugh. Nothing worse than being sick and not being home..:sad2: We're going back in June for 5 days and we can't wait. Hopefully we'll stay well this time. :cool1: :cheer2:

Yes, the worst day of our vacation was Wednesday, when one dd was puking in the bathroom:sick: , and the other dd was sitting on the bed with her laptop looking up flights so she could go home early.:sad2:
Luckily the illness only lasted a day and a half, and no one else caught it, so our vacation was salvaged.

I got sick Feb 20. I think it was food poisoning vs viral though. Very sudden onset, but short lived. I was better within 12 hrs. WE stayed in very close quarters and no-one else got sick. No fever. No aches etc. Just violent diarrhea.

I may never eat shrimp again (the only thing I ate that no-one else did).

Our family vacation in early February was one nasty trip. Started with DD throwing up the day we were scheduled to leave (driving 1400 miles...). We held off as long as we could, then drove down leaving at midnight, with a few dry heaves through the night. DD recovered nicely during the drive down, and after one night at a hotel, we drove straight to Epcot, where within 2 hours, DD proceeded to throw up again. She was down for 2 days, and when she recovered, DS and myself got the bug. Two days more down. Thought all was well just in time for DD 9th birthday at MK with BBB and Princess Breakfast on the schedule, but I got it AGAIN the night before! I dragged myself to at least sit with my DD in her princess costume at the breakfast with the rest of the family, but I was met by my DS who also had just thrown up again. Spent all of 10 minutes at CRT with DD on her birthday, the one I had planned for months and months, before DS and I had to bail and head back to rest. Then, because of the illness, I could not bear to have my kids sit in a car for another 2+ days, so bought one way tix for my wife and kids to fly home, while I drove home (still sick). In all, we spent FOUR hours in the parks together over 8 days. Can't blame this one on Disney either, because clearly we brought it down with us!

In September, 2007 I went through multiple tests the week before we left for Florida because of a problem with intermittent nausea. They couldn't find anything wrong so the Dr. advised we could go on the trip. We had to cancel our 3 day cruise because I got sick on the ship before we left port. We decided to try to continue with our WDW vacation after a vist to the urgent care center. Thanks to anti-nausea meds we did manage to enjoy time in the parks but DH got sick with a bad cold the last couple of days of the trip. Fast forward to December, 2008 and I come down with a bad cold two days before we leave for WDW. We went anyway but my DH gets sick with the same cold and we limped through the parks yet again! We are going back in June this year with DS and DDIL (her first trip) and I'm praying for good health for all.

My 2 year old son was in the hospital at the beginning of Feb for vomitting and severe dehydration. It hit him so fast. He went to bed fine Sat night and then he woke up around 3 with vomitting and just couldn't stop.

Then....my DH has to go and get sick too and he ended up in the hospital the following week only not with vomitting but the other end. Both of them lost weight.

The part of Texas I live in has been hit really hard. The the ER Admitting Dr said that it is hitting children especially hard, usually within a matter of hours of being exposed. He said this is one of the worst viruses he has seen in a long time. The Children's ER where we live usually sees children rather quickly and the night I took him we got in within 20 min. But later in the am the wait was as long as 5 hours. :scared1:

Luckily, I have not gotten sick. I start a new job on Monday. :thumbsup2 I don't want to be sick!

Hope you feel better soon!
