Just Back - ***TOUR GROUP RANT!!**

Not open for further replies.
We just got back. I too have been to Disney in July many times. I have had to deal with huge crowds and Tour groups before. They have gotten worse every time we have gone in July. I used to agree with what Tiger 926 said earlier about not having a great deal of trouble out of these groups. They did not seem to be extremely rude in the past. The only noticeable thing was the chanting and that never bothered me. We generally were able to steer around them and miss them. Fast passes were not affected.

Something has changed here. This trip there were no less than 11 different and VERY large tour groups. All but one was from Brazil. They rendered fast pass virtually useless to most other guests. They broke in line but there was an epidemic of that by all types of guests this trip. They were EXTREMELY rude and arrogant. One nearly assaulted my daughter to get to a counter to view a ride picture. The CM present at the counter attempted to get this girl to wait in line. The girl simply refused by continuing to push all others out of her way and stuck a $10 bill out in the CM's face while leaning over the counter. The CM just waited on her first simply to get her out of the way. Two boys with the same group laid down in the store of Space Mountain blocking anyone else from getting to items on the shelf. They fell asleep on the floor. The CM's did nothing. The tour group leaders came in and out and saw them. They did nothing. Many other group members just plopped down wherever they felt like it blocking off doorways and shelves. I saw a tour groups leader with two huge stacks of tickets running fast passes for group members for Space Mountain. The fast pass times went WAYYYY quick. Again I have seen tour groups before but this was out of control. These incidents were only a few examples of the horrible behavior and troubles in dealing with these groups. We will not be going back to WDW in July as a result of this.

Our experiences EXACTLY! This is exactly what we saw between July 8 - July 18. (Really they came after July 11th).

No one is bullying anyone here. By stating that someone can be arrested, it is the truth. Yes, teens may cause problems, but it is against the law for an adult to lay a hand on them. While I agree, some minors may start it, but the law will also pursue the adult and that isn't worth it to anyone. My picture was not geared to ohiodad, had it been, I would have quoted him directly as I did in other posts.
Yes, it is true, when one has a different opinion they get flamed, regardless of the opinion. There were certain words that were used which lead me to think violence. so report any posts that you feel are bulling, a mod can read thru all of it and see there is not cyber bulling. I don't think anyone was doing that. There were no threats made to anyone. On that, I do think this thread will be closed.. as maybe it should since there will never be an agreement other than that Disney has its share of problems... and they as a company seem to be doing nothing about it.. :goodvibes

That's the bottom line. There are many people who seem to be bothered by the Brazilian tour groups, and Disney is doing nothing about it. And they won't do anything about it, because the Brazilian tour groups (as well as other groups) bring a lot of money into WDW. Disney is a huge corporation, and as with most very large corps, the bottom line dollar is what it's all about for them.

I said I was going to report this thread, but everyone on here is an adult and should know when their behavior is out of control. I am going to ask you to stop calling people names and bullying eachother.

The subject of this thread is important since I am heading to WDW next July with a party of 10. This subject concerns me greatly since there will be a 10,9,7, and 2 year old in my group. I do not want them ran over in anyway or exposed to obscene behavior by these groups (I dont care what country they are from). I promise that if I witness this I will not only report it but I will let the person involved including their group leader know that I will press this issue till their butts are hauled out. No one will lay a hand on my child without a bad scene and I dont care if they are minors. I wont touch them but I will make them wish they were back in there own country. Im a mama and I know how to take care of things.

Also, no where in this country are you guilty until proven innocent. It's the prosecutors job to prove guilty with evidence.

In the State of Fl, all a minor has to do is make an accusation against an adult and the adult will be arrested. I didn't say found guilty. They do have to prove they did not do it. This only happens when the adult is accused by a minor. So please do not state something about a law in a state which you do not live. I know this for a fact, I know someone it happened to. The child lied, the adult was arrested & had to hire an attorney. They had to prove the adult did not do it. So when you talk about flames and how posters respond, think about the statements you comment on as well. If you do not know Fl law, don't say it cannot happen.. no one said guilty.. only arrested, please read all the words.:goodvibes and an FYI while one is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, why do they remain in jail (unless bonded out) until they are proven innocent..;) Yes, law states they are innocent until proven guilty, but in reality they are not.

Fine words from one of those involved. Go back to page 11 and see your response to OhioDad. Insulting the words he used is insulting his intellegence and is bullying. We have a state law in Arkansas schools that defines what bullying is and your doing it. Your giving this site a bad name. I ask you to stop it. I can tell from you threads you like argue and now your tring it with me. I will just report you if you start it me. I not stooping down to this child like behavior. If you dont stop I will report you.

You can disagree with someone without using the words you have used. No, your not the only one but you a main character in this. You start this with me I will report it. The proof is in your post and there is no arguing with that when the admin. reads it.

We've probably logged more WDW July park hours than all combined posters on this thread.

As someone who has logged thousand of WDW July park hours.

I know how many July park hours I've logged.

-and we've spent countless more hours in the parks than all of you have.

-after logging thousand of park hours...

Yes. We are all VERY impressed by how many hours you've "logged". You're obviously a much bigger Disney fan than the rest of us. Bob Iger sends you his regards.

Many can't see past the pixie dust or magic.. they think Disney cares for them.. :confused3

Wow, dude, seriously?

How does one extract a person? I am not twisting your words, but merely using them in the form they were meant to..
Extract is....
to pull or take out forcible : to obtain by much effort from someone unwilling

You may want to check your use of words before stating that someone is twisting them;)

Oh and by the way, stick with your way & you will need that good lawyer, and a ton of money too....;) That is a nice way to spend your vacation and a good thing to teach your children.. way to go for Father of the Year

Sounds to me like you're the bully, Mickeyfan. He's just saying he's going to protect his family against rude, ignorant guests and you're attacking him.

I laughed so hard when I read this. I live next to Sesame Place, just north of Philly off of I-95, and just like the tour groups in July, all of us locals simply avoid certain routes next to the park because the pedestrians are absolutely terrible--people ignore the fact that it is a traffic light and simply walk across the crosswalk, go light or not, with their precious babies. And most of the people could really use a larger cover-up or too--these people do not have the Brazilian figures that are on display in WDW for all the red-blooded American males' pleasure! And yes, they're just Staff up here, and they're all the local high schoolers. Compared to the CMs at Disney, they're far less likely to have the confidence to do much about rudeness--we're just fortunate that no one seems to want to visit here from overseas!

I have never seen it, nor been part of it, so I can't comment as a person who has actually been a victim of a physical altercation. Like I said, no matter what group, if they are causing safety issues, they must be addressed. Just because I don't agree with the stereotyping or hypocrisy shown on this thread about how to deal with the problematic behaviour, it doesn't mean I don't understand how you may all be upset about it.

But, the fact of the matter is, that Disney, as the host, must address it as it is happening on their property. Seriously, if people write some well written, non-prejudicial letters about how they are concerned with public safety, I'm pretty certain you'll get a response. Perhaps it will open up a dialogue about park safety issues and large group concerns?

Everyone's tolerance levels are different, but people on the floor is a fire safety hazard, and that must be addressed immediately, IMHO.

Tiger :)

I want to thank you. I have read everyone of your post on this issue and you have been very tactful and helpful. Even when you disagreed with someone you were dignified.

I definitely think there's a time for self defense and I don't see anything wrong with not letting people cut you in line, etc. but I have no idea why you needed to insult teachers and government workers to get your point across. I don't want anyone else to "fight my battles." I go to work 190 days a year teaching high school students in a very urban school district. Some students are as old as 21 and I have to run a tight classroom to do that. Since I only get paid 10 months of the year, I spend my summers working, this year writing curriculum. Differences of opinion are fine but it seems that you have an incorrect preconception of my career and I wanted to clear that up.

I'm a government worker!...

from Canada though - I have no trouble getting in anyone's face to force an apology if one of my daughters get hurt, either by accident or plain rudeness.

Imagine me, 5'4 blonde Betty Boop type with hair in pigtails and facepaint on walking up to a 6'4 300lb guy with tattoos saying "Hey you want to apologize for making my 6 year old daughter cry because you pushed her out of the way?" :rotfl: I look REALLY young for my age, so this was when I was about 25 - but I looked about 16, maybe 14 with facepaint

She got a side hug and apology and she tried to share her ice cream with him. Sometimes rude people just need that tap to realize how rude they are being. You can't just stand by and say nothing.

To avoid confrontations (aka don't waste my park time) we're all carrying bubbles. Our plan is to bubble rude people. You push past me at a line, you get bubbled and called out on it - but we'll be laughing so hard it won't ruin the next 10 minutes :wizard:

Honestly, I think it is time to close this thread. We are running in circles.

Please figure out a way to close it. Then maybe they can open up a new thread in this issue with "rules" applied for those on here that do not know how to act dignified. I am interested in the subject since I will be there July 18, 2011.

I said I was going to report this thread, but everyone on here is an adult and should know when their behavior is out of control. I am going to ask you to stop calling people names and bullying eachother.
you are correct.. I do hope you saw some of the comments like these...

1. "from a teacher from California not surprise me?"

2. " since you have so much experience with shaping and controlling young minds. Say hi to Jerry Brown!"

3 "you sound like you enjoy being the world's door mat"

4. " Your type l" & "I'm guessing you are or were a teacher or government worker of some type"

5. "If someone happens to get bumped in to by a 6' 4" 300lb former football player there will be an equal and opposite reaction. Might they end up on the ground - mmmm possibly."

..and this post which started it all ... I did read violence in it..

"1. If you push me you will be pushed back.
2. If you push or step on my wife or kids you will end up on the ground. 3. If a group comes at me like they own the sidewalk/walkway and can't possibly be bothered to move, those in my path WILL be moved.
4. If you try to cut past me in line you will be stopped by me.
5. If you try to push me out of the way at the FP machine (good luck with that) you won't like the outcome.
6. If you act civilized and can behave like you have even a small amount of sense and manners you'll find that this large, imposing alpha male/dad can be very nice and respectful."

Please figurer out a way to close it. Then maybe they can open up a new thread in this issue with "rules" applied for those on here that do not know how to act dignified. I am interested in the subject since I will be there July 18, 2011.

I am not a moderator to decide what should or should not be closed, so sorry cannot help here. You may report it if you want but again it will be up to moderator and once thread is closed new one on a same subject cannot be opened, against the rules.

yep, I'm the bully.... I never said I would push, move or extract someone to stop them from line jumping. That is a bully, one who will use physical violence to stop someone from doing something they don't like. Call me a bully if you like.... and the part about Disney liking you.. do you really think they like you.. they like your money. They like anyones money.

Why do you try to avoid January? Is there a specific group there in Jan.? Are you referring to the marathon crowd?
July and January are supposed to be heavy tour group months. Besides January can be cold and I'm too broke from the holidays. :)

With all due respect no one is bullying each other or calling each other names. Ordinarily when I see a new person post I start with :welcome: to the Dis and can honestly say the majority of the people that have been around the Disboards for awhile do the same...we're not hating each other..we just sometimes get ....emotional for lack of a better description. This is certainly not a thread that has gotten out of control, trust me, there are other subjects that are more so and when you're around awhile you will learn which threads you want to avoid & which ones you feel a need to post on... its all good :thumbsup2 AMickeyfan has been around TEN years...she has seen everything here I am sure

Well, I hardly see how the number of years a person has been here has anything to do with the flaming and rants towards other posters on here. I really dont care how long a person has been a member. I'm here to find information including how bad these groups will be when I get there. I read through 20 pages of anything but the subject. If disboard administrators want to overlook the comments made by vet. members fine. I guarentee they will loss new members if we have to read this filth.

As for your comment about this is not as bad as some threads. Ive been on here everyday since I started and this is the worse Ive seen. If you want to flame each other go to a site called TOPIX.COM (there are plenty of other children on that site) dont do it on a vacation planning site. Come on and have some sence.

Anyway, for those on here ready to act like adults, what can I expect from these groups around the 2-3 week in July?

In the State of Fl, all a minor has to do is make an accusation against an adult and the adult will be arrested. I didn't say found guilty. They do have to prove they did not do it. The prosecution has to prove they did it. Defendants don't even have to take the stand. True, accusations can get you arrested, but the burden of proof still rests with the state to make their case. Those accused of serious crimes or are considered a flight risk can be ordered to remain in jail awaiting trial. It doesn't mean they have been determined to be guilty. You are still missing the basic premise of our legal system which is the argument I was making - when criminal charges are filed, the burden of proof is on the state, not the defendant. You don't have to live in Florida to know that.

Before the thread is closed...shocking that it is open still, I was in Disney from 7/12 to 7/21. I rolled my eyes as a signal to my dh once regarding a tour group and its chanting. The group must have been moving by, because that is all I remember.

I don't know if we just toured at the right times, or hit the right parks, but aside from the mention above, I didn't even remember that tour groups were a July problem. I saw them (and also wondered if they had multiple shirts or washed them daily.)

I do think that their sheer number and age could cause problems for resort transportation, counter service, and a good night's rest. Therefore, choosing a resort less likely to accomodate teenage tour groups would be advantageous. That would be my advice for any "convention" like time of year. Also, the advice to avoid large groups of teenagers while on vacation is sound. (I teach high school and need a break from teens! ;))

I certainly would not let them cut in line, and I would politely ask them to change any behaviors unfitting to my eight year olds. If they didn't, I'd leave the situation. Just like if an adult was cursing in a cue or if a person was smoking in a non-smoking area. (I might report it; I might not. It depends.)

I wanted to post to show that not all experiences are the same. Therefore, don't abandon your plans based on some others' bad experiences. (Bad service in a restaurant for one person doesn't mean you will have the same poor service.)

As additional information, one July traveller did post that Disney moved them to SV at AKL from one of the values due to problems with a tour group. This certainly is a positive responsive solution from Disney.
