Here is our list of restaurants we ate at last week, with some quick thoughts. Any questions are welcome...
1. Boma - always a favorite of ours. So good, we added a second visit this trip.
2. Captains Grill, Y&B - first time here. Very nice! Very quiet in the restaurant. Service was excellent, food was wonderful. I had braised beef that was amazing!
3. Via Napoli - very disappointing. Service was not good, servers were very nice, but inefficient. Food came out quickly, but nobody came back for water refills or to check on us. Portions were TINY! My husband had a lasagna dish, I had a creamy pasta dish (can't remember name). Both dishes were ok for taste, but were incredibly small. We also ordered a personal size pepperoni pizza, which was good. Biggest complaint about this restaurant was the pricing! Incredibly overpriced for a meal that we left still hungry.
4. Citricos - this was a wonderful surprise. We had wanted Narcossees, but couldn't get a Ressie, so we tried Citricos as a Signature (2 credit) meal. We had delicious meals, excellent service, and a beautiful setting! I actually thought it was better than Narcossees, which had been a favorite of ours.
5. Spice Road Table - we just stopped in for a couple of appetizers and drinks. The setting is lovely and relaxing. The appetizers were delicious but very small, and overpriced (even for Disney).
6. Rainforest Cafe DTD - This used to be a must do for us, but we moved on to other places over the years. We decided to revisit it, and we not disappointed. The food was excellent, as was the service. The value for the pricing was much better than the standard "Disney" restaurants. Huge potions of excellent food!
7. Turf Club - This has been a favorite of ours for several years, but WOW, did it disappoint this trip!! First of all, our server made us feel very rushed. She even told us we had to order our dessert at the start of our meal, with our meal order! I've never had this anywhere. She said it was because the desserts take a long time to make? We did not hear any other server in our area do this. Then I ordered the NY Strip. Now, we are on the dining plan, but even so, this is on the menu for $35. It came out looking like something at The Sizzler - it could not have been 3/8" thick! I had also ordered risotto instead of potatoes as my side, but it came with potatoes. Our waitress didn't come back for so long , I didn't want to bother about the side. Then a different server came and cleared the table, never asking about why I hadn't barely eaten my steak. Of course now it was gone when our server came back, so I couldn't discuss any of this. The best part was when we left, I asked to speak to the manager. He was very nice. I didn't want to complain about the server, but I wanted to discuss the steak. My biggest gripe is that I feel like the dining plan has let Disney get away with giving us lower quality food and portion sizes, because we don't feel like we are actually "paying" those prices. Sometimes we don't even look at the prices anymore. But if I was actually paying $35 for a steak at home, it would be a completely different meal! The manager immediately agreed with us! He said that he compared that steak to one at The Ponderosa! He said he tells his friends never to order the Strip at his restaurant! He said he has complained to his Disney people (not sure who that would be), but has had no luck. This seemed so crazy to me!! I'm starting to agree with many posters on these boards who say that the dining plan is ruining the quality of food at Disney!
Sorry for the rant everyone. Seems like across the board, prices are going up, and portions, quality, and service has gone down. At the exit of Epcot on our Via Napoli day, a CM stopped and asked us to take a computer server right there about our meals from that day. Perfect timing! It made me happy that Disney is actually asking for our opinions. Maybe things will improve, if they get enough feedback.
