Just back from a nice relaxing trip to Boardwalk Villas and Polynesian Concierge! Here is a brief food report.
Lunch at Teppanyaki in Epcot. This was our third meal there and while we did enjoy it, we got a lot less food (esp. veggies) this time. Our cook was very fun though and we sat with a few cast members on their lunch break and a father and daughter from Brazil. We will probably go back.
Lunch at 9 Dragons (China) in Epcot. We decided to eat here because we wanted to try someplace new. We both had the Taste of China where you get a little bit of everything. Nothing special, I can get Chinese food at home that is better. Will not return here.
Lunch at Pecos Bills at Magic Kingdom. Only counter service we hadnt tried yet. Both had cheeseburgers. They were okay. The restaurant was very very crowded and loud.
Lunch at Columbia Harbor House. This was our third time here. I had a salad with grilled chicken and clam chowder in a bread bowl. Greg had the captains special - fried fish, chicken and French fries. We enjoyed the food and it was nice and uncrowded here. We ate upstairs and looked down onto Fantasyland. We will definitely return here.
We were disappointed that Tonys was a character buffet for lunch since Crystal Palace was closed. We had been looking forward to their yummy pizzas!!!
Wanted to try the new pastry shop in Italy but by the time I made it there before illuminations they were all out of tiramusu. Oh well, maybe next time.
Kona café at the Polynesian. Had a late night meal here during a big thunderstorm. We had previously eaten lunch here and were disappointed but decided to try it again. Both of us had the oven roasted chicken. It was good but nothing special, better than Captains Cooks and that is all we wanted. Probably wont return here, would rather go to Ohanas.
California Grille at the Contemporary. Had been really looking forward to this. The restaurant was a lot busier and louder than I was expecting. We had a table one away from the window with a nice view of the Magic Kingdom. When the fireworks began, many people got up from their tables and stood at the windows and in front of our table which meant we had to leave our table to see the fireworks, I thought this was rude. A guy at the next table proposed to his girlfriend, we figured it out before it happened and it was very sweet to watch! We had the sushi sampler and the triple cheese, triple garlic flatbread. Both were excellent. We really enjoyed the sushi, wish we would have gotten the deluxe sushi sampler! I had the grilled pork tenderloin which I really did not care for. I didnt even finish it! Greg had the filet, with sautéed beans, potatoes and a red wine sauce. He really enjoyed his entrée. We will return but probably just for sushi and flatbread!
Flying Fish at the Boardwalk. We had been here before and had a wonderful experience. We ended up eating here twice this trip and both times were wonderful. This is definitely our favorite restaurant, for food and service! First night we had Al as our server, he was amazing, very knowledgeable about the food and wine and the best waiter we have ever had. He suggested the Caymus Colundrum so we ordered a bottle and loved it! They used to have a mussels appetizer we liked but the menu has changed slightly with the new chef so we tried the fried rock shrimp and calamari appetizer. The batter was nice and light but we only thought the dish was okay. I had the black sea bass with smoky painted corn (a mixture of corn, mushrooms, and smoky bacon). It was perfect! Greg had the oak gilled wahoo (grilled medium) with heirloom tomato risotto, basil-lemon emulsion and micro greens. For dessert we shared a peach napoleon (sorry, Im sure it had a fancier name than that) with crispy phyllo dough, vanilla creme brulee and warm caramel. I am not usually a dessert person but I loved this! I can still taste it, yummy! The whole experience was great and we walked out with smiled on our faces! And Al even gave us the label and cork from our wine bottle to take with us! We enjoyed it so much that we returned a few nights later. Greg had the same entrée the wahoo and I had the same entrée although tonight it was tilefish instead of sea bass. It was very good although I think I liked the sea bass just a little bit more. We had another bottle of the same wine and could not finish it but were able to take the rest of the bottle with us! Had the same dessert but this night it was apples instead of peaches. Cant decide which was better! We weren't able to sit in Al's section but he saw us and recognized us and came over to our table to say hello, very impressive! Overall, we love this restaurant and look forward to returning again and again!
We did not eat out as much as we usually do as we were staying concierge and munched alot in the lounge.
Would be glad to answer any questions!
