Just back! 'Ohana review

Great review! We have ADRs on our first night there, and I can't wait. Is the bread pudding really good? I loved the pineapple dessert, hope the pudding is just as good :goodvibes

'Ohana is our families new fave! DD talks about it everyday still!

Bring on the rest of your reviews! Can't wait. :thumbsup2

Hi! princess:
I loved your thread. We are going in Aug. and could not decide on our last meal on the DP, but now we have it. We called this evening and got the last res. for the day. It was at 8:45. Do you think this will be to late to eat there? We are totally excited!!!

thanks!! :cool1:

Thanks for the review! We recently ate at Ohana's and loved it! I usually rarely eat meats but found myself getting seconds! Also the coconut races and limbo parade were too cute! I'm glad you liked it!

Our reservation was for 8:50. I wanted it late since Wishes was at 10. We finished up just in time to go outside and watch it. I like eating late though and we dont have little kids. It was perfect for us.

Thanks so much for your review!! I'm so excited to eat there in September.

Just a question, though- My husband and I don't eat salad or shrimp (allergic). Should I tell our waiter this before hand?? I don't want them to waste food if we aren't going to eat it at all. With shrimp, I can be around it, I just can't eat it- it's not like it can't be brought to our table, I just don't want to be wasteful.
Just tell the waiter, it comes in separate bowls and if you are allergic you don't want it on the table. The salad is delicious, they brought me seconds.

It is to DIE for. I was not looking forward to it because I normally don't like bread pudding (or anything mushy for that matter) and was bummed that we couldn't have other options. BUT - it is so good that I tried making it myself at home! (and failed miserably)

It is really almost more like warm cake with ice cream on the side and a caramelly-banana sauce that is on the side as well (you add your own, so if you don't like it you don't have to have it). There are no raisins in it like in most traditional bread puddings, and I think they use the pineapple bread to make it (but don't quote me on that).

Aside from the fact that I was totally stuffed with more food than I've ever eaten in my life, we managed to request a second bowl of the bread pudding.

On my last trip we decided to have a bread pudding contest and compared the 'Ohana bread pudding to the bread & butter pudding at Raglan Road. I think it was a draw - they were both so delicious in different ways. Sounds like I'll need a second round of comparisons next time...

Enjoy!

My family (4 of us) spent a week at the Poly last month. We had 1 dinner at Ohana, and it was the worst meal of the week. The shrimp were overcooked, and sitting in way too much liquid. The potatoes were greasy and bland. There was some sort of lousy vegetable. The steak was tough not very tasty, the turkey was overcooked, and the pork was fatty. The sausage was just ok, but had no taste. Plus, they brought out things in the wrong order (potatoes before salad, then salad, then meat). Restaurant wasn't crowded, so no excuse there. However, the salad was good.

By the way, we found the rest of the food at Disney to be very good. I had 2 dinners at Kona, 2 breakfasts at Kona, plus mutliple meals at Captain Cooks. We also had 2 dinners at GF, 1 lunch at GF, plus lunches at MK and Epcot.

Wow, we LOVED 'Ohana. Shrimp was AWESOME, and we are seafood lovers. Yes, they are messy, (the sitting in "liquid") but soooooo worth it!! My husband and I just about filled up on the shrimp! :) I don't do carbs, but treated myself to the potatoes!!!! Awesome!!! I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience. We've eaten there twice now and will again. It is our favorite! I do have to agree with you on the dryness of the meats! They ARE very dry and tough. Disney has not perfected their meats! We found that true most of the time.

Bummer - just goes to show that a good restaurant can have an off night. We loved Kona dinner too, glad you enjoyed that one!

Thanks for sharing your review, I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. :sunny:
