Just back...my personal 2 cents

Great trip report, Skywalker!

Please tell me, was it too cold to swim? (FL/ship/islands)???

Cricket, the weather was beautiful for swimming. On the ship - glorious. On St. Martin - GLORIOUS. St. Thomas - glorious. On Castaway Cay - um, not so much. LOL. It was still beautiful for swimming but it was one of those cool to get in until you get used it type of temperatures.

i also just returned from the jan 8 and had depesh and donevel as our servers and i could not agree with you more. throughout the week we went to breakfast in the different resteraunts and had different servers. none of the other servers compared to the two of them. they were incredible.

"i made the mistake of stopping by shutters to many times"

Hi Bailey - hey what table were you at and at what time? We were at Table 45, early seating. Maybe we were neighbours?? LOL.

We had Depesh as our server on our last cruise! Glad to hear he is still there. We also thought he was terrific, especially with our then 11 month old son. Glad you had a great time.

Thanks so much for your great report! Now I am getting really excited!

Thanks also for helping me out- my husband almost died when he found out how much we paid for our verandah room- I just showed him your post and you earned me "brownie points" which will be useful on the trip! :cloud9:

Thanks again for sharing! :cool1:

I have another Cat 11 booked for December and it isn't necessarily the size of the room - it is the furniture I miss. There is no steamer trunk, the "dresser" by the closet isn't there and I think the desk "unit" isn't as large either. Storage for 3 of us this time will be interesting but just one more cruise thing I can think about prior to sailing!

Thanks for the trip report Skywalker. I was also on the January 8th Magic cruise. Got onboard later than usual so we missed the DIS meet and had the character breakfast Sunday, so we missed that meet too. Glad you had fun...we did too!

Couple of comments on the category 11 room.....we were in a category 11 room last year, but it was one of those oddly laid out rooms (6503) where the door is on the side. We actually felt like we had more room in the actual living space in room 6503, because the bed was against the back wall in front of the dresser, so you could easily walk around the front area of the cabin because the couch was there.

This time we had reserved the perfect category 11 room on deck 7 just off the secret deck 7 area and (to our surprise) they upgraded us to a category 9 on deck 2 very forward on the ship. We did not feel that the benefits of the porthole outweighed the location we could have had on deck 7. We were actually arguing with them to give us back our original room. Too bad we didn't make the meet, we could have switched cabins with you. : )

I agree with another poster here that much of the extra square footage in category 5-10 is taken up by the split bathroom, and IMHO the split only makes the "potty area" seem smaller. We rebooked for next year and booked a category 11 on deck 7 and told them not to move us next time.

Guess it's all a matter of preference. Thanks again for your thoughts!

Also...
FYI...Glindamood....in that category 11 room we had last year, we did have a steamer trunk. Maybe it is just because of the odd layout of 6503.

I have to agree, Depesh is an amazing server... I have always had great servers, but he will always stand out. Along with Fitz, who also sails on the Magic. But Depesh is still my favorite--probably helped by how cute he is as well :)

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. I have to agree on the CAT 11, at least for 7 day cruises. I have found I spend more time in my room on a 7 day, then a 4 day.

bailey0308,

We were on the Jan8 Magic, late seating, table 56, party of nine. My 6 year old son was dressed as a formal pirate on pirate night. We were on the PLAPLAP dining rotation.....Parrot Cay first night.

Depesh is still there... we just had him this past week.

I just adored him! He is quite the handsome fellow. For some reason, DH wouldn't let me take him home. So, I booked another cruise and hope to get him again.

We had a CAT4, free upgrade form a CAT6. DH won't go without a verandah, but he's the same way with resorts. Loves to be able to have a glass of juice or a ginger ale out there.
