OK, just back from the long weekend and my meal reviews follow:
Thursday night: Celebration Town Tavern. When we get in late this is usually our stop for that night. I like it because they have 99 beers on the menu! As an app we always have their onion rings, I don't think I've ever had better and these were no exception. For dinner my oldest daughter had the Seafood medly (shrimp, scallops and grouper) over pasta. She ate it all. Youngest daughter, wife and I split a blackend prime rib sandwich and a french dip. My PR sandwich was spicy which I liked and lean (yum) and the FD was tender and tasty. Thumbs up. For Uncle's edification, I had Peroni as my beverage, is that up to snuff?
Friday night was my youngest daughters 13th birthday at Flying Fish. We started with lobster bisque (Very good. Not spicy but tasty). Then we split a frisee salad. It was good but maybe not as good as some variations in the past. Entree's: Oldest daughter had the usual charred NY Strip which was perfectly cooked M-rare, tender and oh so tasty. A "10" again for sure. I had the Tile fish special with a corn and ****ake mix which was one of the best fish meals I've ever had. I also had a side of risotto which the Chef explained was a whole wheat risotto (healthier than previous offerings) and as a family we thought it FANTASTIC! My wife had the grilled halibut(just for the halibut) and claimed it was better than mine (no way, but this is the way great meals are, right?). Birthday girl had mickey pasta with butter and toasted garlic bread (not on the menu, but prepared just the same) and a little of everyone else's. For dessert we had the chocolate valharona (sp?) and banana creme brulee. Not a spec was left. This meal was extraordinary and we nearly rolled out of the restaurant!
Saturday night we ate at Tchoup Chop at USO. It was an excellent meal. We started with an Asian Ceasar Salad with shrimp which everyone thought very good and seared scallops over plantains which were deemed EXCELLENT. Youngest D and wife split the NY Strip, which was coated with a pepper soy sauce mixture and was A-1. No waste to be seen. I had an Asian style grouper in a corn and mushroom sauce. Very, very good, but a just a tad below the fish at FF. Oldest D had the double porkchop with tamarind sauce and citrus infusion. It was huge, very tasty and tender. But it was huge. Really big...She couldn't finish it even with my help! This was one of the better pork chops I've ever tasted!
That's it for this trip but in closing I want to reiterate my extreme happiness with the food and staff of Flying Fish!
