Hi all,

I just got back from a 3 day trip to Disneyland with my daughter. Wanted to pass on a few thoughts about some things.

Maxpass: LOVED IT. Now, we were only 2 (I totally get the sticker shock with large groups) but I ladored it. I added it to the first 2 of our days there (the third day we weren't going on fastpass rides and doing more characters and shopping - not planned that way, just worked out that way). It was very quick and easy to add after entering the parks.

Things I loved:
-Being able to make FP reservations in DCA while have having lunch in DL (just in general not running around for FPs)
-I reserved fastpasses at the Candy Cane Inn for later in the day
-Being able to cancel fastpasses was great - one night Matterhorn FPs were listed as gone and when I looked a few minutes later one had opened up - keep looking!
-I used my phone to make the reservations but my tickets to scan at the ride. Seemed quicker. Those scanners are FAST!

I did notice FP line backups at a few rides but after that passed the lines didn't seem longer. A lot of people were not noticing that there are two scanners at each ride which would slow things down. I was in DL with a larger group earlier this summer (before Maxpass) and I didn't notice a big difference in FP lines.

RBT Fantasmic dinner package

-I noticed many people were booking this same day FYI (I heard one CM say the Premium was sold out though)
-I had never eaten there before. We both enjoyed the food and people with reservations were all seated inside - it was hot that day so that was great.
-Tickets said to come to section starting at 8. We showed up about 7:50 and they were just letting people in. We could have sat at the rails a bit to the side but we chose 2nd row more in the middle. I didn't notice anyone with the BB seat cushions but I also wasn't really looking for them - so not sure f everyone was seated together. We were a tad bit left of center.

I have never had such great seating for Fantasmic so this was money well spent. I was really impressed with the fireworks projections as well and thank you to the teens in front of us who brought my daughter in front of them during the fireworks (you have to stand that those) so she could have the best view right at the rail. The rail was kind of in the way for Fantasmic but not really (if that makes sense? It being there didn't bother us I guess) - I really liked being so close to the front. If you have kids it might be worth getting there early like we did more for the fireworks projection view than Fantasmic. We were also tired so sitting for an hour was pleasant :) I also booked a Matterhorn FP with maxpass while waiting. My daughter is old enough to be alone for awhile but I probably would not have left her at night to run to get this.

Right after the fireworks we walked over the Main Street and sat right on the curb for the MSEP at 10:45. Very easy to find a spot even after a bathroom break.

WOC dessert Party

This was a huge treat and was great. I have celiac and my plate was great. You just can't beat sitting down at a table and sipping a cocktail while watching World of Color. We had the high tables and I would ask for them again. It's not something I would pay for every time certainly but especially with a small group it's an amazing experience. I had only seen the 60th anniversary WOC so it was great to see this one.

Minnie Plaza Inn Breakfast

We do character meals every year (usually Mickey Surfs Up and Goofy's Dinner). We had done Minnie's once before. That Minnie experience was way better than our experience this year. A lot of it was just bad luck though I think. Staff changed over so my request to chat with a chef about GF food took a really, really long time (the food they brought me out was pretty good though but not as good as Surf's Up) Some characters had just passed by our table when we sat down - and since they run on a 90 minute circuit we didn't see some characters at our table when we left - which had never happened to us before.

We were done in a bit over an hour and felt like we had been waiting for characters for quite some time. I talked to a CM about seeing a few of the characters that we missed but just got the 90 minute comment and "if you see 5 characters you're doing well". In the past if we chatted with a CM about stuff like this they brought either us over to the character or had the character come to us. I could have pushed more on this but didn't feel that strongly about it. We saw maybe six characters and missed at least 3. Still more (or the same) amount of characters to other character meals but it's hard on kids to see characters at other tables and not have them come to you. Not sure if it's normal to miss a few characters at these things or not.

What also made waiting unappealing was a large family whose kids (and parents) were out of control. One kid was screaming bloody murder consistently. Others were running to characters all over the restaurant with the parents encouraging them by taking photos. I saw a CM talk with them at point but it didn't help.

I think if we did this meal again we might try for a later seating maybe when it was winding down. Overall still a fun experience!

We had a really great trip and it was so nice to see the canoes back in action as well as the train (we left the day of the soft opening and didn't get a change to do either).

Thank you for your report. It looks like you had a really nice time, despite the character meal not being optimal. You still have a good attitude about it. :)

Thanks very much for your trip report - loved reading about your trip.

Re: MaxPass & the 3rd day - you didn't want it that day for the Photopass benefit when meeting characters?? Just curious - maybe you have an AP with Photopass included?)
I'm thinking we may try it some days when my son & I go end of Sept.
I was thinking not to get it on the 2 days we have MHP's as Photopass is included with those tkts anyway.

I think Minnie's can be a bit hit & miss.
We had a similar thing happen last time but just with the chipmunks.
My son had been waiting all meal to see them & they kept missing us. I told him to go mention it to someone - the ladies at the checkin counter I believe. Response was: 'you can catch them at their house'.
I wasn't happy with that and went and spoke to a lead who immediately made sure my son was taken over to them with no fuss.
Whilst you may not see 'every' character at the B/F if a kid comes up & says he has been waiting 1 1/2 hrs to see a particular one he really wants to see then they should make an effort to make it happen - which the lead did. I wasn't pushy and was polite and he had no problem with it.
And...there's always one family isn't there!!! Some people just don't get it! or don't care.
We are going again this trip however.
We always enjoy it.

Was lovely to hear the teens let your daughter stand in front - very nice of them to notice and be aware.

I watched the clip of the train in a thread here - lovely to see it going again - can't wait to ride it when we go!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

We were after characters that we knew wouldn't have photopass photographers with them that day (not Fantasy Faire, Frozen, Mickey's House, etc.). We usually buy photopass on our trips - I definitely like that that is a part of Maxpass as well. I know you can have them take photos on your own phone but the ones they take are usually so much better - especially at night! I do wish they would have more of the silly photo backdrops for photos that usually had photopass photographers to the parks. I don't remember seeing any of them this trip.

The CM at Minnie's said a similar thing to us about seeing the Pooh characters we missed (we missed seeing Tigger, Eeyore, and Rafiki during our breakfast) and I wanted to say "yeah, but we paid money to see them here" but I really try to stay as positive as I can :) In the end we did see Tigger and Eeyore in Critter Country with Pooh and Piglet as well so that worked out great. And we had met Rafiki on a previous trip so it wasn't a big deal to skip that since she's not a big Lion King fan. I have never seen the chipmunks at their house - that's a more questionable thing for the CM to say I think. I think if they are going to say stuff like that it would be nice to pull out the app and show people where and when they can see them.

What was kind of funny is that some characters never got very close to us but Captain Hook was by us multiple times - that was a treat!

I wanted to say "yeah, but we paid money to see them here"

Ha, ha, this was EXACTLY my thought too when I heard the response!
I don't like to make a fuss & if the lead's response was the same as the other CM then I would have just left it & explained to the kid but it was all good after a polite request.
I didn't even know the Chipmunks had a house!

Where is the chipmunk's house? Never seen it, either!

I googled it out of interest. Apparently it's this Treehouse in ToonTown - maybe they sometimes do M&G's near here?

Chip 'n Dale Treehouse
Visit the home of the nuttiest duo around! There's a party up in the old Redwood tree and you're invited. Chip 'n Dale are 2 industrious chipmunks who have carved out the entire acorn tree.

Go Nuts

Enter through a carved formal entry and see the world the same way your favorite pair of chipmunks do. Climb the winding spiral staircase into the heart of the tree that Chip 'n Dale call home. Up top you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of all of Mickey's Toontown!

Who's Who?

Ever wonder how to tell these 2 chipmunk brothers apart? Chip has a small black nose with 2 teeth in the center of his mouth. Dale has a big red nose and 2 buck teeth with a gap in the middle.

Thanks for the report back! Our two experiences at Minnie's have been the same and it's to the point that as of now, we won't back to go back. Both times we were seated outdoors, which was fine, but it did make things more difficult, IMO. I will warn a later seating comes with its own problems. As they get close to turning over, people start using the tables to eat their lunches (corn dogs, spill over from Jolly Holiday, etc) or simply just come up and use it as a regular meet & greet. We've had characters not come to us because the got stopped by so many people not at the breakfast and both trips none of the CMs would do anything to stop it, no matter who I talked to.

I always remember that Chip has a small black nose that reminds me of a chocolate chip! :)

Curious...what did you get with your GF WOC dessert plate?
Fruit, cheese, some kind of small cookie, creme brulee type thing, a chocolate ganache dessert, and something else dessert wise I am forgetting I think. The non-GF plate my daughter had was much heavier on cookies. I wish there would have been a GF brownie or larger cookie honestly, but it was super yummy.

We're going in November and have never been to Disneyland before. We might choose to do the dinner package & the dessert package to see the nice shows you described. I'd like to ask, from your vantage point, were either Fantasmic or World of Color particularly loud? Did you ever feel earplugs would have been helpful? I'm asking due to a current sound sensitivity. I know your perspective will be different than mine, but it would help to hear the perspective of someone with normal hearing who saw the shows close up.

Generally speaking you will get seated inside if you have a reservation, if you are a walk up you will get seated outside. If you aren't getting the characters coming around to your table, speak up, some of the character leads are better than others, always as for the character leads, not the restaurant lead though, they are separate and then if the character leads does nothing to improve the situation, as for the restaurant lead/manager, they need to be aware of the problem as well. Really this is the character breakfast with the most characters, at many of the other breakfasts you are lucky to see three characters these days, but every time we have done Minnie's with a reservation we have had 8-10 characters and one time we went we had 15, although that was a very slowly day in the parks and a lot of the characters were coming in from outside just to have some guests to meet with, in other words they were getting bored sitting outside because no one was there. If you have a sound sensitivity, you might want the ear plugs just in case, really I don't find either of these too loud, but when bands are playing around the parks and at Downtown Disney they can get quite loud and earplugs could be helpful, but you will still feel their bass for the bands and I know for some that is just a much of an issue as the loud noises. You don't have that issue with the shows, but depending on how close you are to the speakers they can get loud for some.

Do bands play a lot at Disneyland? They only play once in a while at Magic Kingdom at WDW.

And yes, I'll have earplugs. I'm trying to decide if I should do the shows at all, even with earplugs.

They do at Tomorrowland Terrace (or whatever it is called this week) and at Downtown Disney near the AMC theater, which is also close to that Monorail stop, both in the evenings. During the summer this is usually nightly, during the off season this will often drop to Fri, Sat and Sun only in Tomorrowland, Downtown Disney will usually still be nightly, but no all bands there are loud, some are even acoustic.

I would say for Fantasmic!, Get the premium package at River Belle and watch from there, the view isn't quite as good, but still decent and is quite a bit quieter and should still have a decent view of the fireworks.

For World of Color I think you would be fine with the ear plugs, just don't stand right under a speaker, ask a CAM if you are unsure where you should go for sound sensitivity, they are pretty good at coming up with solutions these days there.

All other shows you should be fine as long as you aren't right by the speakers and that is easy enough to be accommodated with, just let the first CAM know and they can direct you to the best place for you.

Both times we had reservations. Both times were told the only thing available was outside. Both times I went to the character lead and both times they brushed me off. Actually one of the times, I went to the character lead 3x during the breakfast because she kept promising they'd be by soon and another 45 mins would go by with nothing. Spoke to the restaurant lead too who apologized but told me I should go back to the character lead. The character lead watched as people brought their lunches from outside and got in "lines" with the breakfast characters. It finally took a busboy who got the characters to come to our table. Guest services was made aware after our trip and while they acknowledged it, I can't say they it helped at all as we had the same experience a year later.

I understand how the breakfasts work; we've eaten at all of them. We picked this one, and then gave it another chance, because of the number of characters it offered. But it's waste of money and time, not to mention the frustration when you see the same characters circle by the tables near you and never come to yours. And then to have zero help when it is brought up. I'm glad other people have had good experiences there. It's just not one I'll do again.
