CMs at Orlando Airport were wonderful and easy to find. We found the Disney Welcome Center easily, but the line for check in looked huge! They asked one family member to get in line, so DH waited with our carry ons while I got in line. No worries, the counter was fully staffed and the line moved VERY fast. Because we had gotten our ME tags, check-in process was less than one minute, then we lined up for the bus.

Wait for the bus was about half an hour--CMs let everyone know that they were short on motorcoaches and apologized for delay. When our bus arrived, it was not a ME motorcoach, but a plain white bus! I was not feeling the magic. However, our driver was very nice and we were at POFQ in less than 30 minutes.

I don't know exactly when our bags arrived, but they were there when we came back from Epcot at around 8:00. Everything was in good condition.

On Thursday we got a letter about our ME pickup for Saturday AM. All our flight info was correct. A REAL ME motorcoach picked us up at 7:05 Saturday AM. Very nice! Comfy seats, Monsters Inc. on the TV kept the kids quiet and we made just a couple of stops (including 2 where the people failed to show) before heading to airport.

Overall, Magical Express worked well for us and the "price" can't be beat. We will use it again in October.

Thank you! Glad to here you had a great trip and a positive ME experience! We are heading to WDW in three days and will be using ME. :flower:

Thank you for the report. We will be using ME on May 25 coming home May 31. I will post our results for future people.

I've posted about this before, but the threads were quickly buried and I'm not the type to bump them up just to make them seen.

I traveled May 8 - 14 and have nothing but great things to say about DME. I took notes -- since I was going so early there were people on another board counting on me to report back as much as I could.

I got into the LONG line at the DME counter at 9:37 a.m., but was served and done by 9:42 a.m. -- there were 14 CMs working the counter along with 2-3 managers. I received my DME tags on the afternoon before I left. There were 6 of us (the wife and me, our 2 pre-schoolers, and her parents who insisted they travel with us), so we got 12 tags, but we only checked 4 suitcases, so to be safe I put 2 tags on each suitcase. Just paranoid I guess.

I got in line for my bus -- Caribbean Beach Resort/All-Star Sports/Animal Kingdom Lodge at 9:44 a.m. It was the longest line of the 6 there. The line began moving at 9:54 a.m., and we were on the bus at 9:55 a.m. We were on a DME bus -- air conditioned, comfy burgundy velour (?) upholstered seats, TV screens, etc. The bus was full but not uncomfortably crammed.

We pulled out of the airport at 10:02 a.m. In total, 25 minutes from first getting in line to leaving the airport. Not bad. Impressive, actually. I'll bet I would have waited that long just to finish with baggage claim!

I was in luck, as CBR was the first stop. We pulled in there at 10:30 a.m. In total, 53 minutes from getting in line at the DME counter to being dropped off at my resort. Don't get me started about the 30 minute wait to check in at the resort, however! And by the way, I was one of the first off my bus, so it's not like the delay was caused by the bus I was on.

I got to my room by about 11:15 a.m. or so. Whenever I travel ANYWHERE I make sure I bring 24 hours of supplies in my carry-on, anyway, so I wasn't concerned about my luggage. It arrived at my room around 2:30 p.m. when I was at the pool with my kids. Around the same time, my grocery delivery from Gooding's also arrived. It was so cool -- I thought I was going to have to schedule my Gooding's delivery, and have to hang around the room waiting for them like waiting at home all day for the cable guy. But guess what? They deliver to Bell Services, and then Bell Services delivers to the room. Before I left home I asked what would happen with my refrigerated stuff (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.), and Gooding's told me that CBR has either refrigerators or a refrigerated room to hold the stuff, and Gooding's separately bags and labels anything needing to be kept refrigerated or frozen. If you have that sort of stuff, Bell Services calls you to make sure you're at your room to accept your delivery -- my mother-in-law was in her connecting room so she answered the call and took the delivery. If I had missed that call, no problem, my stuff would have been properly stored and I would have gotten a call later, or I would have called them. Everything was great.

No problems on the return trip, either. Bell Services was backed up around check-out time, so they told me to just leave my bags (checked and carry-ons) inside my room. We used Express Checkout so I didn't have to do anything other than leave. We returned to the CBR Custom House at 3:15 for our scheduled 4:00 p.m. pickup for our 6:45 p.m. flight back to Atlantic City. The 3:30 p.m. DME bus came about 10 minutes late, but the 4:00 p.m. one came 5 minutes early. About 20 minutes before my bus was scheduled to arrive, I got Bell Services to retrieve my bags (12 total) from storage (we had to deal with the luggage because we weren't using one of the "participating" airlines); she was quick and friendly and refused my tip! She told me to keep the bags on the rolling cart she used. A few minutes later I rolled the cart up to the DME driver, who needed to see either my DME return voucher or anything official from Disney with my name on it (such as my WDTC hotel voucher). He asked my what airline and how many bags.

The bus was far from full. We went directly to the airport, no stops. We watched an entertaining Disney sales pitch on TV on the way back to the airport. When we parked, the driver asked everyone to stay seated while he unpacked ALL the bags from the hold (suitcases and carry-ons) and lined them up outside. When we got off, I immediately got the attention of a skycap, who loaded ALL our bags on a big rolling cart, and accompanied us on a long walk and then elevator ride up to Spirit Airlines. He waited by our side while we checked in, and after we got the airline tags on our checked bags he rolled them to the TSA or airline guy at the x-ray machine.

So as you can see, I was totally satisfied with DME, and I used it on its 4th day of operation!

We were also greatly pleased with Magic Express. Arrived on Sat., May 14 and landed at around 8:30 a.m. We were greatly pleased to be checked in and in our room at Pop Century by 9:45 a.m. and our bags were in our room when we returned at around 2:00 p.m from the MK.
I would highly recommend that if you are flying one of the airlines that allows you to check your bags and recieve you boarding passes at your resort that you do this. We did with little wait on Friday, May 20, and when we saw the lines at the ticket counters at the airport that evening when we arrived, we were sure glad we did. The return to the airport on Magical Express also went very smoothly and we were well satisfied with the whole experience.

Great to hear these reports! I wonder if anyone has arrived late at night and if so- when they got their luggage??

How much time before your flight does the ME return you to the airport? Can you request an earlier pick-up time then you were given? :flower:

Thanks!!!!!

Thank you for sharing. It is nice to read reports from real people who have experienced this instead of people trying to pretend they are new to the boards just to trash the service. Even if it is bad, I want to hear it, but from real resort guests.

Thank you for the time you took to post.

We (DW and I) also arrived on Sat. May 14. Our flight arrived at 7 PM. We were directed to the DME desk and waited about five minutes to check in there. Another five minute wait to board our bus to AS Movies and about 10-15 minutes wait on the bus for it to fill up. By the way, DME buses were new and quite comfortable. Stopped at POP and the other AS Resorts first. Once we got to ASMo checkin was very quick - we dropped off our carryons in the room and were off to MK. We made it to MK in plenty of time to see Wishes at 10:00, which was what we had hoped for all along. The only glitch in the system was that our luggage wasn't there yet when we got back from MK. It wasn't a big deal since we had everything necessary for the first 24 hrs. in our carryons. We awoke the next morning with a message light blinking on our phone - the message being that our luggage had gotten to the resort at 1:40 AM and was being held until we awoke. Bags were delivered within a couple of minutes after we called.
Our return was on May 19. The only problem we had then was that we did not get our notification of when to board our bus on the day before leaving. I had the CM at the desk call for us at 11 PM the night before and we were given a time of 9:10 AM to meet the bus for our 11:55 AM departure. When we walked out of the lobby at 9:00 the next morning the bus was already there waiting. We handled our own luggage since we flew on a non-participating airline. We had a comfortable ride back to the airport and were there in plenty of time to get through security and get to the gate.
All in all, we had a good experience with DME and expect that the minor problems we experienced will be cleared up by the next time we use the service.

CleveRocks: Would love to hear more about the Goodings delivery service--how did you find out about it? How do you order; what is the costs, etc. Thanks in advance.

What is Goodings?

Gooding's is a local upscale grocery store. You can submit orders through their website, www.goodings.com, and they deliver to your resort. There's a $50 minimum and they charge a flat $10 delivery fee. The items on their website are pretty limited, but if you e-mail them or call them in advance you can request anything that they carry on their shelves (about half of my order was comprised of this kind of stuff). I ordered breakfast foods like bagels and cream cheese, easy stuff to make for sandwiches to bring to the parks with us a few times, snacks for my kids, plus milk and fresh fruit and stuff like that. They accidentally left out of my order the 18 oz. jar of peanut butter I ordered and paid for. I called them late in the day when I noticed, and the next day they delivered two 12 oz. jars to me.

2 hours 45 minutes prior to your flight leaving. I don't know if you can request an earlier ride (never tried it). I do know this: I was ready early, and when I asked if the DME bus I saw was late for the previous bus or early for my bus, the bellperson told me I could get on the earlier bus if I wanted, as long as the driver thought there was sufficient room for me.

We didnt use ME on our trip last week, but I am glad to hear that you all didn't have to wait very long to pass through the line! When we arrived at MCO to gather our luggage on 5/15 at about 1pm, the line to check in had to have at least 300 people in it! My DH and commented that we would love to hear how long people had to wait, because it sure looked daunting! We'll definately keep it in mind for our next trip!

Yes, the line to check in looked very scary, but they had a CM at the end of the line making sure we had everything we needed (and were in the right place), and a CM at the front of the line getting us to the counter as soon as there was an opening. I think that really helped things along. For those of us with luggage tags, check in was brief. Those without had to take a few minutes to describe their luggage (they had charts). Once the luggage tags are all going out on time, this should run like clockwork.

I was totally prepared for delays & frustrations (knowing we were still in the "guinea pig" stage), but the service was free so I was also prepared to go with the flow.

I am thankful that Disney is offering this service at no extra charge and I think the CMs and Mears drivers are doing a good job.

Thanks for the times, that is good to know!

Eric and parkhopper407,

Since you didn't use a participating airline, did you have any trouble having your boarding passes printed at the resort?

Didn't use ME last week but had some extra time at the airport and inspected the ME area. There were 4 ME buses, one Disney Cruise Line bus, and one plain white bus waiting outside. The latter 2 had ME signs in their windshields.

At the time (5/19/05, 4 PM) there were hardly any guests waiting and the buses were almost empty. I didn't hang around long enough to find out how often the buses departed but I guess it was every half hour.
