Just back Issue 3 RFID MB tracking

I couldn't care less if Disney tracks where I go and what I do on property. I like the convenience offered by the MB, and look forward to seeing what future interactive enhancements will be possible with their use.
Same. I'm actually trying to figure out why it matters? What harm is being done? What am I missing that anyone would dislike this?

I've never really liked the idea of the magic band. I find it creepy. If we're on property for our next visit, I think I'll ask for the old fashioned key card.

I might use it at the pool and water parks for the convenience.

I'm so confused by this and at some of the posts.

Reasons why I personally loved our magic bands-

1. Was my son's first trip and every person at a ride greeted him by name and asked how he was enjoying his first visit. (He smiled and was amazed by it every single time)

2. Ride photos.. Hello?!??! How awesome is it that within minutes of leaving a ride our photos are already on my phone.. And the videos that I didn't notice til later.. Loved it!!!

I don't understand why/how anyone would have an issue with the data that is recorded. It improves our trip and reinforces the "magic".

OP- Your issues with Disney sound a little conspiracy theory driven.. It's a vacation.. It's Disney world. Look at your pictures and smile. That's all that matters.
I'm sure you created a lot of wonderful memories on this trip..focus on those :)

I love it. You love it. But some people just have different definitions of privacy. I go into it fully knowing that Disney is tracking my moves for their own nefarious purposes (namely to figure out how I spend my time so they can get more money out of me). They aren't tracking ME specifically, but an aggregate me. It's honestly no less data than your cell phone provider already has no you. But for some people that's enough.

..Or Pandora.. Or Netflix.. Google..or Facebook...etc
I do get annoyed sometimes when an advert for Hawaii/shoes/toy/etc etc etc pops up in my fb newsfeed bc I did a quick Google search at some point in the past few days..lol.

My favorite is when sometimes the Internet thinks I am from India and the ads are in Hindi or wish me a Happy Dwali, or when apparently Verizon thinks my internet search patterns match that of someone who needs calling cards to Mexico.

this technology has always been part of what the MB's have been used for.

i honestly don't see what the big deal is.
its just disney tracking you throughout their property.
its not the government tracking you throughout your every day life.

The example in the OP alone makes me uncomfortable. I really don't want my name and hometown up there for anyone to see.

paranoia paranoia everyone's coming to get me. lol.
its doubtful that anyone cares or even pays attention to anyone else's name or hometown unless they see that someone lives in the same city they do.

besides CM's have their name and hometown on their name tag and no one seems concerned for them.

Is it just first name and hometown? I wouldn't have an issue with just first name.

Anything is possible.

If people are uncomfortable with the RFID technology with the magic bands, the option to get the key cards that doesn't have the same full capabilities is available. Disney has been completely transparent with the info they grab off the bands and what it's used for.

This was an unexpected laugh while trying to find out some information on a few resorts. What I think is funny is that the same people who have "problems" with the tracking in the MB's are the same people who called, used the internet or gave a travel agent all of their credit card, home address or whatever information willingly to get to Disney, all that information in the wrong hands is much more damaging than where you were in a certain park when a cool little sign changes to say your name and possibly where your from. now excuse me while I fashion my tinfoil hat for my next trip.......

Some people use PO boxes exclusively, often because they have had issues in the past. I'm sure there are also people who pay exclusively with gift cards to avoid giving their card number to Disney. I use to work in a job where I often got to see how people handled their personal information, and often learned the life experiences that led to those decisions.

I, personally, would not appreciate seeing my name and city as I travel around the park in Disney. It reminds me of the advertisements in Minority Report that were personalized. It's most likely not going to be damaging, but it's still not something I would appreciate. I don't really want to wear a band to begin with, so it's really just another reason to add to the list.

If other people want to wear them, that's fine. Besides my tiny amount of data for crowd and advertising purposes, there is nothing to be lost by my not wearing one, so I really don't understand why people care so much.

I'm just saying P.O box, unlisted it doesn't matter if people want to find out information about you its very easy and very cheap to do so, I just do not see the fuss with Disney trying to get the wow factor, its a new age parlor trick. And I know a thing or too about not wanting personal info out and about, I get threats everyday at work about how someone is going to track me and my family down do bad things, ill regret whatever just because of the job I have etc etc etc, at some point you just have to go out and have fun, to me these days people worry more about some stupid info that Disney, the next door neighbor or whoever has on them, then they sit around the house get ulcers about it, buy the latest lead lined fashion wear so my info cant be seen. Go to Disney with family/friends/yourself have fun its like being a kid again its not hard to go out and have fun or at least it shouldn't.

I guess that since my husband is in the Army, I already feel like all the info in the world that someone would even CARE to know about is out there for people to find and read - they just don't bother me.

Liek a PP said - you never know when that MB will get you something special like coupons, or an extra discount -

That's what makes me laugh when I hear people complaining about them. I hope these same people don't have iPhones!

Or Android phones, or a tablet, or computer, and half the stores you shop at now want your name and phone number, have a rewards card for a shoe store, the movie theater, grocery store, they all track your habits for advertising purposes. Pretty much anything you do is tracked by someone now. This is just the world we live in. Hell, walk up the main street in your town, good chance a half dozen different security systems will capture pictures of you. Is it a little creepy, maybe, but it's also quite handy when someone turns up missing to be able to go find video and see who they were with, and what direction they were traveling in. Live everything else in life, you have to take the good with the bad!

Yep, you would pretty much have to be completely, 100% off the grid, living in a cabin in the woods, if you don't want to be tracked. Newsflash to everyone who complains about Magic Bands: You probably shouldn't be on the DIS right now. Take a glance at the ads that are on your screen at this very moment - those ads are tailored specifically to you, based on what you look at. And once you leave this site, they will be more Disney centered - if they're not already. Magic Bands? They're just a tiny drop in the bucket of the tracking that is happening in your life.
