Hey everyone...just got back and wanted to give my reviews of my transportation to/from and around WDW!

Independence Air IAD-MCO. Our flight was half full so we got to stretch out. Left only a few minutes late and arrived 10 minutes early. Customer service was great from check-in to the gate to the flight attendant. On the way down the audio spiel was done by James Carville and Mary Matalin and on the return it was Dennis Miller. Very entertaining. Small planes, smooth ride, snacks, beverages and warm towel. Nice touch. Flight home was delayed due to nasty weather back here in the DC area (party of the reason I dreaded coming home). Instead of making us wait for the incoming flight to arrive, they sent us a plane arriving from somewhere else to do our return trip. So we got back about 1.5 hours later than planned but that was due to Dulles not allowing any flights to land due to weather and had nothing to do with the airline. All in all a very positive experience and I hope they continue to fill planes and keep operating. BTW, our return flight was just about full and the agent at check-in said most of the weekend flights were almost completely full. That's a good sign.

Dollar - since we arrived at MCO around midnight I didn't know what to expect. There was no one on line at Dollar so I joked with the agent that it was a good thing I signed up for Fastlane because it saved me from waiting so long!!! He had upgraded us to a mid-size before I even got the chance to ask so I can now use my upgrade coupon for a future reservation. Got a Taurus which served our purposes since we didn't use it other than to/from the airport. Returning the car was equally as easy. Pulled into the garage at the terminal, stepped out of the car; the agent with his hand-held device checked us out, printed up a receipt and sent us on our way. Quick and painless. By the way, we rented a car because we got a weekly rate of $103 (including all taxes and fees) which ended up being less expensive than transfers! Couldn't beat that.

Stayed at AKL. Figured we'd try WDW buses and see how it went. We ended up using them all week and never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus to arrive. Very easy, and the drivers were very friendly, some even playing trivia with us while driving to the various parks to pass the time.

We had a great experience with all our transportation this trip!

Karen --

I am glad to get good reports on Independence Air! Finding a low cost carrier out of Dulles or Richmond has been a problem. I jumped right on Independence Air when they started up and have two trips booked with them. Going to WDW December 19-27, and then we turn around and fly to NYC on December 29. With fares as low as they are offering, it makes no sense to travel any other airline right now or use any other form of transportation!

Glad you had a good trip and thanks for the great report. I am now looking forward to the flights even more.

Hi Queenof2princesses!

I was simply persistent in checking and I used either my Costco or BJ's codes to get the discount. I found great rates through them with Dollar, Budget and Alamo and canceled the other 2 at the last minute. My rate was for a compact car originally but got the upgrade for free. I think it depends on the time of year for your trip but I was checking the boards every few days and was amazed at how often the rates changed. For example, a few weeks after making my ressie, I noticed the same car for the same dates was going for $244; over twice as much! So just keep trying!

Glad to hear about I air. We are flying with them Dec. 18-31 (BUF-IAD-MCO).I'm sure you have read some of my threads on this board . I am paranoid that they will go bankrupt in Dec. and will seize flying. Just ignore this nuttiness. I am a WORRY WORT.

Quick question:
You mentined they offer beverages on the flight. Do you remember how much they charge for non-alcoholic drinks (water/juice/coffee)? I'm just wondering if I should pack our own or simply buy them in the air.

The kids don't know we are flying (they think we are driving) and it has been very hard not to tell them.. They also (along with DH) think we are staying offsite (we are staying at ASMo).

Hi Suzy!

Yes I've read a bunch of your posts and understand your concern but nothing will happen overnight. And lately, they've been filling more flights so that helps too. If anything, they'll cut the number of flights but they won't cease operations any time soon.

As for snacks etc...all non-alcoholic beverages are free (juices, soda, water, coffee, tea and very good iced tea). They also come around with a tray of snacks and you can pick the one you want (Sun Chips, cookies, a fruit/cereal bar or pretzels). And they come through one last time with a hot towel which is quite refreshing. Really great customer service too.

I'm so sad we're home already...I'm excited for you. I hope you're able to keep your surprises a secret... The only secret I was really able to keep from my kids was a character dinner the last night at the Garden Grill. They had a blast hanging out with Mickey and friends!
