We came back saturday after 3 wonderful weeks in florida

Highs
- Being able to ride almost all of the big rides with DS as he reached the 40' mark. Back in february he was too short and it had bee a small disappointment
- mnsshps. We did 3 and it was so much fun. Walk on rides, candy, parades, we loved every minute of those parties

Glad you had a wonderful time ...... and excuse me for seeming to be rude but why a hospital bed ?

I had written a long hi and lows but my tablet quit on me

I will make a new thread once I get home and lay my hands on a real keyboard

To sum up the hospital part
:
Thursday, worst case of the flu I ever had
Barely made it to the airport friday
Flights rerouted, exhaustion, luggage lost (for good it seems :( ) and finally caused me a phlebitis, I had to be rushed to the hospital, seems I've been extremely lucky

I will give full report (including the highs which are not complete by far) once I'm out of the ICU

oh goodness what an end to your holiday.

Hope you are feeling better and out of hospital soon.

Hope you are better soon.
We saw a few ill people in the airport, one lad aged about 9-10 could hardly stand. they were just behind us at the security check at MCO, his Dad having to hold him up and hold a bag for him to be sick in.
Then on the plane a girl was sick all over her Dad, seat etc.
I have had a cold about 4-5 days, thankfully its not got any worse. Although its not fun with a cold and jet lag I will be OK in a few days.

oh good grief hope you feel a lot better soon, thats dreadful.

Look forward to seeing the rest of your highs and lows. Hope you have a lot more highs then lows.

Get better soon x

Good lord what a horrible horrible end. I so hope the earlier part of your holiday was really lovely and that you have a speedy recovery :grouphug:

Oh my goodness I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like a dramatic ending to your Disney story :<

Oh no. Poor Rachel (jjk) and her family have been delayed flying home because of illness. Her husband is really sick, they were supposed to fly home yesterday but aren't coming back till Tuesday now.

Hope you are feeling better soon chmurf :goodvibes

I saw he wasn't well but didn't hear what the outcome was. Hope he is fit to travel Tuesday.

oh no - get well soon to everyone who is ill!!

i got really sick when i was in orlando and ended up going to one of the walk in places - and for the first time was very unimpressed by the doctor (i almost asked to see his medical license)..

fortunately i was able to reach my doctor at home and he told me which antibiotic to tell the idiot doctor to give me.

Wishing everyone who's feeling unwell a very speedy recovery!:hug:

Glad you enjoyed your holiday though, bet it was great being able to ride the big rides with your DS. x

I'm so sorry to hear that you're unwell :worried:

You really had a rough go of it between the hassles of getting this trip together (with all the challenges thrown in your way!) and now this! It's good to hear that all your planning paid off and can't wait for you to be fully recovered and tell us all about your son's take on his 'big guy' trip, riding the big rides and all the halloween parties. :hyper: I wondered if you would bend and book another :lmao: We also did three and it was great being able to focus on parts of the park each night and really enjoy a good mix of rides and treat trails and still get everything done.

Get well soon pixiedust:

Sorry to hear you have been so unwell, I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Ah, just been catching up with dis boards since we got back, so sorry you came back not very well, hope you are feeling a bit better now, all our best wishes for a speedy recovery, and say hello to your little boy from the dopey lady that couldn't speak any French!:wave2: Rachel

small update

I'm out of the hospital but not out of the woods yet

as it turns out the first diagnosis was overruled by later exams

as far as we know, and as best as doctors could "guess" :

I was bitten by some kind of bug/spider/whatever. That's what caused me the original fever on thursday.
Then the small puncture wound became infected without me noticing
my leg began to swell as I put my comtension stockings on.
During the fligght the small infection turned a full blown infection, and the swelling created major damage on one of my toes, compressed inside the shoe
when we landed, I was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with suspected flebitis.
A doppler scan ruled the flebitis out, but blood samples showed I had septicemia.
I was put under heavy duty antibiotics.
Unfortunately for me, I have very bad and twisted veins, and IV treatment was no longer possible (took an EMT 14 tries to find a suitable vein ... painful ...)

When they switched from IV to regular antibiotics I made an allergic reaction and 90% of my body is now covered in a redish rash and an oedema started to form in my throat (Quincke's edema) which required yet another emergency treatment

I am now left with a painful erysipelas on my lower left leg, most of the leg turning into an ugly looking ulcer. A nurse comes here every morning to redo the dressings

I'll be on strong antibiotics for the next 3 weeks at least, and will probably need a couple of months before I can walk again

in the end I'm fine, but not well enough to resume full DIS operations ;)

@2tiggies : I'm ashamed we only managed to bring back 10.2kg of candy
DW did too mouch shopping and we had to leave about half of our trick or treating behind
we left mostly tootsie rolls and liquorice as they are not our favoritres
we have over 2kg of snickers, kitkat, milky way and crunch ... probably the biggest health threat I'm facing right now :)

Wow, so sorry that you have been so poorly! Infections and allergic reactions are pretty scary especially when it results in oedema! happy to hear that you are on the road to recovery and looking forward to you rejoining us here on the DIS. Take care and hopefully you'll be fully recovered soon! :goodvibes
