small update
I'm out of the hospital but not out of the woods yet
as it turns out the first diagnosis was overruled by later exams
as far as we know, and as best as doctors could "guess" :
I was bitten by some kind of bug/spider/whatever. That's what caused me the original fever on thursday.
Then the small puncture wound became infected without me noticing
my leg began to swell as I put my comtension stockings on.
During the fligght the small infection turned a full blown infection, and the swelling created major damage on one of my toes, compressed inside the shoe
when we landed, I was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with suspected flebitis.
A doppler scan ruled the flebitis out, but blood samples showed I had septicemia.
I was put under heavy duty antibiotics.
Unfortunately for me, I have very bad and twisted veins, and IV treatment was no longer possible (took an EMT 14 tries to find a suitable vein ... painful ...)
When they switched from IV to regular antibiotics I made an allergic reaction and 90% of my body is now covered in a redish rash and an oedema started to form in my throat (Quincke's edema) which required yet another emergency treatment
I am now left with a painful erysipelas on my lower left leg, most of the leg turning into an ugly looking ulcer. A nurse comes here every morning to redo the dressings
I'll be on strong antibiotics for the next 3 weeks at least, and will probably need a couple of months before I can walk again
in the end I'm fine, but not well enough to resume full DIS operations
@2tiggies : I'm ashamed we only managed to bring back 10.2kg of candy
DW did too mouch shopping and we had to leave about half of our trick or treating behind
we left mostly tootsie rolls and liquorice as they are not our favoritres
we have over 2kg of snickers, kitkat, milky way and crunch ... probably the biggest health threat I'm facing right now
