Hi everyone,
We just got back on Wed. and I wanted to share some of our dining experiences with you. We had many great meals this time and enjoyed almost all of them tremendously. Here are my thoughts:
Crystal Palace - we had lunch here with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet and the kids had a ball. The buffet was well stocked and the food was wonderful. They had "rainbow bread" which the kids thought was cool (white bread with colorful swirls), several kinds of bread, muffins, sandwich fixings, two kinds of soup, and several hot dishes. The salmon was to die for (and I am not a huge Salmon fan usually). My husband said the prime rib was very good. They had some nice homey vegetable dishes too, like green bean casserole with crunchy onions on top. The service was top notch as well. The kids could make their own sundaes and there were several dessert choices including a very yummy pineapple upside down cake that was very light.
Boma - absolutely the highlight of this trip! The food here is incredible and the atmosphere even better. I tried a beef and lamb dish that was very good, several types of hummus on flatbread, an amazing chicken curry stew, and some vegeterian dishes with couscous that were out of this world. Dessert choices were outstanding if you have any room left over.
The famous zebra domes are every bit as good as you all have said! This is a restaraunt that should not be missed!
Le Cellier - recommended by Scottwdw (our ps wizard
) this place is a little gem and a wonderful place to cool off on a hot day. They start by serving hot homemade breadsticks of several varieties. We liked the pretzel ones. The cheddar cheese soup was so good, we ordered more because our kids ate it out from under us. Shrimp coctail was remarkable. Steak and lobster were perfect. My husband said the steak tips were delicious. They had a maple creme brulee that was a perfect ending to a really great meal. One more thing, my 9 year old ordered a dessert called the Northern Lights. It was a soda and ice cream drink and was lit up with a glowing ice cube.
Olivia's - disappointing. I loved Old Key West so much, I really wanted to like this place. I hear lunch is better than dinner. We'll try that next time...Oh! But they did have a very yummy Key Lime Pie for dessert!
1900 Park Fare - Really enjoyed this buffet. Food was very fresh and tasty if not all that adventurous. They had a really wonderful bread pudding with vanilla sauce that is worth a try even if you aren't a big fan of bread pudding. The kids enjoyed decorating their own cupcakes here and walked away with pocketfuls of gummy bears.
Character interaction was wonderful. Cinderella politely corrected my husband when he stated that we had just seen her "boyfriend". "You mean my husband" she said with a wink. Goofy was outside playing with kids while we waited for a table. It was really nice. The Grand Floridian is so beautiful.
Here's an interesting one you don't hear much about - Starring Rolls at MGM. It's a little hole in the wall place to the right and in back of the tip board. They serve really yummy looking pastries and desserts but they also had a sandwich special that comes with chips and a drink. I stopped here with my little ones while their daddy (crazy man that he is) rode Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster on fast passes. It was delightful! They were turkey, lettuce and pesto on homemade tomato focacia bread. My oldest son ate 2 and I felt really good for finding a healthy meal for only 18.oo for the 5 of us. They had a basket of fruit to choose from as well. You might want to stop in here and give it a try.
Sci-Fi Dine in - this was a quick late night stop at closing after riding Star Tours about 14 million times. (My boys love this ride!)
They serve some drinks here with glowing ice cubes as well which was of course a real treat. The spinach and artichoke dip here is quite good. My boys were enthralled with the cars and the movies.
Trail's End Buffeteria - What a great deal! The kids really liked the pizza and the dessert display case. Food here was just down home good. I could seriously have made a meal out of the cornbread and ice tea. I think lunch is served here until 2:30 and is only 8.99 per adult and a couple dollars less per child.
And finally, we ordered chicken caesar wraps while waiting for Fantasmic and they were surprisingly good!
I did all this with 3 little boys (and one big one
) and I must say, it really was a pleasure. We always ate at "off" times and only had to wait at 1900 Park Fare. Every place else, we just walked right in. It was a great trip and we ate like kings!
