Just back... guest behavior... I really can't believe this!

Last year in Islands of Adventure we are in the line for the pteradactal (sp?) ride. We were not in the line long when a young boy in front of us needs to go to the bathroom. Father lifts him over the fence and tells him to go right there. My ds and I just look at each other. They were not in the line that long. Some people feel they can do whatever they want because they bought a ticket. Oh well. At least there are some of us who are civilized and know about indoor plumbing.

Eating potato chips - so what?

Mom talking on cell phone - who knows who she was talking to and why.. Contrary to popular belief, people CAN talk on the cell phone and do other things at the same time.. You know - like walking and chewing gum at the same time..

PEEING in line?????????? Super duper bad!!!!!!!!!

That is so disgusting. Someone should say something to a CM or security right away and they should be kicked out of the park. The health dept. would have a field day with people letting their kids urinate in line!!! I would tell them I am taking a picture or video and reporting them.

I agree --
- litter - bad
- running away - bad
- eating chips - not so bad
- talking on the phone - not so bad

But, I think the point was, the child was probably *more likely* to litter and run around because of the lenghty phone call. Sure, I can watch my kids and talk on the phone - but I do watch them somewhat less if I am on the phone.

As for the chips, I don't think the OP thought chips are evil
but picture wild child with a rather large open bag of chips racing around unsupervised -- sound like a mess waiting to happen!

Yes, it is amazing what some parents do or don't do with their children!

Yikes! I, too, can't believe some of the people/families when I go to WDW. I do not have children right now, but love, love, love to "people" watch while I am at the parks. There has been many a time I have received a chuckle from an upset, stressed out parent with children to take care of! I cannot wait to be that parent, but for now I like the stories and the laughs!

I can tell you one little story...My DH and I took 4 residents from our group home to Disney last December. While at MGM Studios, one of the residents was finishing up using the restroom. (Note: he must use EACH drinking foutain as he passes them and I mean each and every drinking fountain!) He came out of the bathroom and noticed the drinking fountains. A father and son were using them at this time. Well, He can't wait for them to get done and pushes the son out of the way to take a drink! I rushed right up there and apologized profusily! (Another note: this resident is autistic and does not really talk.)

On a last note, I don't think Disney would be complete without some form of nasty tourist story!

That's my story...I can't wait until I can people watch again soon!

I have a tourist horror story too. I apologize in advance if any of you have read this before because I've posted this in the past but that's how bizarre this was. We went to lunch at Pizzafari in AK. DH went to the counter to order our food while the kids and I found a table. I was sitting with my back to a window and could see the the dining room and the counter. A family of 4 walked in, a couple in their 50's I'd guess, one in their late 20's, and their child. The ladies went to get the food and they were looking around for a table. The table directly in front of me cleared but it only had 4 chairs and this group needed 5. Keep in mind I have nothing to do but people watch so I saw exactly what happened. The table directly in front of THEM had a couple in their 60's finishing up eating. The man is still eating, the wife is done and starts to stand up and lean across the table to start to just round up the trash to be thrown away. Well the guy in his 20's behind her sees her stand (but should have seen she was NOT leaving at that moment) and he LITERALLY PULLED her chair out from under her and slid it to their table. My mouth dropped open. I probably should have screamed or something but it all happened so fast (in fact the lady's dh was looking off and he didn't see what happened since he was people watching and enjoying his sub.) She of course goes to sit back down and hits the floor and I mean HARD. She had her cup in her hand and ice flew everywhere. Her dh and people all around ran up to her to see if she was ok. She was embarrassed and stunned. I'm sure she was hurt too!! The jerk (pardon my language) that pulled the chair out from under her just turned around and acted like he had no clue what happened. My dd saw it too and we looked at each other in shock. My dh comes back, I tell him what happened and as I'm telling him (ok I admit loud enough for the jerk to hear me and know I saw him but not obnoxious I promise) and as I'm telling him his wife and mom? came back and asked what happened. The lady that fell just wanted to get out of there and left. The manager came over, saw the ice on the floor, called an older cleaning lady over there and started to chastise her for the ice being on the floor. Ok, maybe I should have minded my own business but it was NOT her fault so I went and told the manager what happened and that the ice was a result of the fall not the cause of it. The cleaning lady CM came to our table and gave me a very big thank you. The guy that did it kept looking at me nervously and needless to say they had a quick lunch. It was just so senseless and then for him not to own up to it. I KNOW that at the least the lady that fell had to bruised but it's a miracle she didn't break a bone she hit so hard ('cause she thought she was sitting back down on her chair) and I often wonder if she did and had to seek medical attention. End of rant!

We actually witnessed almost the exact same peeing incident at Disneyland Paris about 5 years ago. Only these people weren't in line at all and about 20 feet from a bathroom. Aside from the health issues, to expose a child's body in public in that manner is just plain sick.

Last year at WDW we went to the Main St. Bakery. While my sister and friend stood in line to pay I went to find a table. I sat down at one that had 3 chairs. A family of 4 came shortly after and all that was available was a small table with 2 chairs. The mother came to my table, DIDN'T EVEN ASK and took the extra 2 chairs!! After a stunned moment I went over and told her those chairs were for companions that were in line and I needed them. Her reply? "Oh well." Then she turned back to her conversation with her husband and sons. I tried to pursue the issue and she said if they wanted chairs they should have sat down. Refusing to cause a scene I went and sat down to think about what to do. A wonderful older couple saw the whole thing and went around asking if empty chairs were being used and found me 2. Then the husband REALLY ripped into the woman about what a horrible example she was to her children. I liked them so much I went and bought them a Mickey bar!

Bad behavior abounds and not just at WDW. Don't let these incidents go without some kind of comment. Maybe it won't make a difference immediately but it may make them think twice next time.

I am the OP. The whole point about the mom being on the phone is that it was not the time or place. Her child was "missing" for a few moments before another family member found him standing way down at the edge of the dock. No one else was down there. This was after he had littered twice(and no said anything). I should have said that the child went into the stroller basket to get this huge bag of chips out himself without asking anyone. All of this behavior indicated that he does whatever he wants-including running off a boat. My son , who is the same age, would not have dreamed of doing any of those things and he is by no means perfect.

I'm still reeling over the Pizzafari story...Epcotgal8, that is just unbelievable. I'm so glad you told a manager...and I hope the guy who started the whole mess felt good and guilty for the rest of his trip...though from the sounds of it, he probably forgot about it the minute he left the restaurant.

I think people who are inclined to act in inappropriate ways do so when they feel there is little or no risk of a penalty to themselves from such behavior. A few years back, I attended a concert in an indoor arena where there were signs posted everywhere stating this was a totally non-smoking venue and violators would be ejected. In my section, a few people lit up and out of nowhere, event staff appeared and removed these folks and they never came back. Many of us in that section witnessed what happened and I'm sure this definitely discouraged any others who were tempted to sneak a smoke. The point is if the all-about-me people at WDW felt there might be a price to pay for bad behaviour, given the high admission cost, that might be incentive enough to behave themselves. After all, if you've just spent a couple hundred bucks for park admission, you definitely don't want to be asked to leave before you're ready. Just a thought.

I like sugardrawers' (I'm not even going to ask) story about Main Street Bakery. I think most times it really does take a third person's intervention to make the offender realize that he (or she) has stepped over the line of appropriate behavior.

Epcotgal8-OMG WHAT A ROYAL JERK!!!!!!!!!!! If I had been that lady who fell, well that guy would have gotten an earful. Usually if someone is rude I will shrug it off, or kill them with kindness. But if I got physically hurt (even a little bit) due to someone being rude, oh boy that would infuriate me. If my dh would have been that husband, he would have been extremely upset too. I can't believe they just left! But I must say kuddos to them for not making a scene, I admit I probably would have made a BIG scene... I hope that lady felt ok for the rest of her trip.

My Fiance and I are AP holders and have visited the mouse every 3-4 months for the last couple of years. I have seen a lot of obnoxious behaviour but would have to say this past weekend took the cake.....perhaps I'll post the long version of our trip later, but for now I'll share this UNBELIEVABLE experience....

This past Sunday, 5/30, we entered MK just before 9pm and made a left past City Hall and found a spot just off the rope by the gate where Spectromagic was about to begin. During the parade, approx 9:15pm nature called and I told the Fiance I was going to hit the restroom approx. 50 ft away (the restrooms nexdoor to City Hall)....As I got about 1/2 way to the restroom I noticed the smell of marajuana!! I thought....naaaa....I'm just having a flash back to the college days..... but as I got closer to the Men's restroom the smell became stronger until I looked to my right and there on the bench to the right, just in front of the restroom entrance were 3 teenage guys, maybe 15 years old...SMOKING A JOINT!! I was completely shocked. I started laughing and said "Uhhh you gotta be kidding me....guys, you better put that away!!". When I stepped in to the bathroom I realized the guy already in there with his son smelled/saw this scenario and we talked about it shortly....same with the next two guys to enter the bathroom.....THESE IDIOTS WERE SMOKING WEED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BATHROOM NEXT TO CITY HALL IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!! Now I don't have children and wouldn't consider myself a prude when it comes to such things....I have seen this stuff before but in plain view at the Magic Kingdom with kids everywhere and a parade going on 50ft away?? Again, I was shocked. When I exited the bathroom the 3 young stoners had left their bench but weren't concerned enough to leave the area. They sat just behind us next to the store we stood in front of during the parade and I pointed them out to the Fiance.....I'm ashamed to admit I didn't finger them to the officer that we saw as we entereed the park. I was wrapped up in the fun we were having and as pathetic as it sounds, didn't want to get involved and take time away from the rest of our evening.

This was only the most outlandish nonsense that we saw over the weekend. I'm not sure what's going on at Disney....maybe it's the heat, maybe just an over crowded holiday weekend and we just had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time on multiple occasions, but we found ourselves muttering the following often during our 3 day stay:

Well, fortunately we have never seen anyone peeing in inappropriate places....but I have a quick reminder to the ladies to think about how short your skirt is!!
Sunday we were walking up the ramp to get on the monorail. The lady in front of us was pushing her stroller up the ramp, and it must have been a little heavy. Well, she was bent forward to push, and we could see her underwear...and that she had a wedgie.
My hubby and I just looked at each other, and then I told him to look elsewhere!

I agree. I've read most of the "bad behavior" threads around, and what REALLY amazes me is that the people who witness these kinds of things hardly ever speak up about it, either to the offending guest or to a CM. Many of us are non-confrontational, and I'm like that too. But when a person witnesses extreme behavior (like using a queue for a toilet or pulling a chair out from under someone) then it is that person's duty to report it.

If people get called on this behavior more often, I don't think it would happen so much.

On a happier note, I've only witnessed one rude thing in all my visits. It was an older couple who refused to move all the way to the last seat in the row for "Tough to be a Bug". Just plopped down in the middle. The CM's noticed and told them to move, but the couple just ignored them like they weren't even there!

Other than that, I've never seen anything bad. Either I'm lucky or just oblivious!
