We just got back from a really great three day "quickie". Had so much fun in spite of one day of horrible weather. We drove up early Friday morning and checked in to the Contemporary hotel (north garden wing). The room was ready and really clean. It was on the first floor overlooking the lake and kid's playground. I loved being on the first floor so close to the main building, pools, and parking area! Everyone at the CR was very helpful and cheerful. Th hotel was busy, but check in was quick.
We went to e-night on Friday and it was so much fun. We arrived in the magic kingdom early and we went to the castle an hour early for our dinner reservation. They let us have a table right away. I had never been to the castle for dinner but was very happy with it. Our server was Leonardo. Now I don't normally remember names of waiters... but he was wonderful. I have never had such great service before. He was so funny and sweet to my kids and kept bringing my daughter "magic dust" (confetti) to the table. He handled our special orders with such grace and patience and let us take our time and really enjoy the enviornment. When it was time for the fireworks the lights dimmed and he encouraged my kids to go up to the window (not in front of anyone else!) and watch. The food was good. The prime rib was a little tough but the salmon was fantastic. With my disney dining card I saved $18. This was a great dinner!
After dinner we went to e-night and it was great. Only about five to ten minute waits for the really fun rides. Space mountain broke down just as we were about to board but was back up a half hour later. We managed to go on every ride that was open and the crowds were not big at all. Everyone was having a good time. Lots of cheerleaders all around, they were a little loud but having so much fun. (AH-to be young again!)
The next day my family went to the disney dining experience at the Braves/Mets game. The food was pretty good, picnic style buffet, unlimited wine and beer, water, etc. and really fun bleacher seats a the stadium. It was HOT and humid and the Mets lost...but they still managed to have fun. Great disney crowd. After the game and a swim at the hotel we went to the Kona cafe for dinner. it was nice to just hop on the monorail and arrive at the Poly. Very easy transportation. We LOVED this restaurant. The food was really great, we had the spring rolls, beef tenderloin, soup. Really great food and no hassle to get in and relax.
The final day it was really horrible weather (rain, wind) and we went to Epcot. Before we got on the monorail we had breakfast at Chef Mickeys. Not that good this time..the food was adequate. At Epcot the crowds were down and it was sea of yellow rain ponchos. We decided to go and do all the Innovation exhibits we normally rush through on sunny days. The kids had fun with all the technology. We went to the land and had a bite to eat at the food court. It was CROWDED in there as everyone tried to get out of the rain. There was 60 minute wait for the Land ride so we skipped it. Went to the Sea and sat down to watch the preview movie. As I sat down I went to move down a little bit to give my daughter room to sit next to me when I STUCK to the bench. Some not so nice person had left a BIG wad of gum in the middle of the bench seat. It was stuck to my pants leg and IMPOSSIBLE to get off. After the movie we went out and waited for the "transporter" to the sea. There was a really nice castmember there and I asked her if there was any ice or chemicals that they had to help me get the gum out of my pants. She put in a call to supervisors/custodial staff. Noone called back and it was determined that there was nothing available. The cast member that came over asked me to wait for ten minutes. She came back and gave me a "no strings attached" coupon that allowed me to go anywhere in Epcot and get a pair of pants or shorts for free. On our way out that night I stopped at mouse gears and bought a pair of shorts. I thought that it was such a kind thing for them to do and was a big surprise to me. There was no problem using it as "payment'. Truly a disney moment.
Had dinner at Germany and it was okay, not as good as usual but fun anyway. The next morning the sun was out so after some mouseboat rides and breakfast we checked out and drove back to reality!
