Just a note to all who have read unfavorable reviews of Grand Floridian concierge-our review is-it was great! We were there June 23-28, main building, fourth floor, and loved it! Plenty of good food, great atmosphere, and not "stuffy" at all. We worked with several concierges while we were there and they were all very cordial and even funny. If you go, ask concierge Jimmy what time Main Street Magic Kingdom opens...tell him you heard there was a special time-he'll get it! Anyway, the children and adults in our group were both very comfortable in our stay there, and will definitely do it again.

We stayed in the RPC May 22-27 and had a glorious vacation, so much so infact we have already rebooked the RPC for our next trip in May of 2004.

glad to hear a positve report!!!!

Great to hear you had a good time.

What were the food offerings? (especially the 'twilight refresher ones in the early evening). We're going lodge concierge and there are usually some very similar snacks.

Thanks in advance

Well, some items were new every night, and some offerings were the same every night. For example, one evening there were 2 sushi items. Another evening, there was chicken sandwiches and broccoli salad.Staples at most of the afternoon and evening offerings were cheese and crackers, fruit, large cookies, chocolate brownies, pink and regular lemonade, etc. Breakfast- cereals, pastries, sliced fruit, hot biscuits, etc. My sister stayed in SugarLoaf last year, so we went to check it out so we could see what the difference was. One of the chefs was there at the table, so we told him what we were doing. He said that the main difference was the wines and cordials offered in the main building were not offered in the outer buildings, but that everything else is about the same.

Thanks chinamom- sounds similar enough to last year.

Can't wait!

Chinamom3, you brought up an excellent point, and one that I try to bring up often -- that the food offerings between the RPC lounge and the Sugar Loaf lounge are identical except for the evening cordials (RPC only). For my last GF stay, I had access to both lounges (I was in a suite) and I purposely visited both lounges almost every day so that I could report back what I found to my fellow Dis'ers. People think that the Sugar Loaf concierge is second-class, when in fact it is the same class as the RPC, it's just located in a differrent building and doesn't have the evening cordials. Not a big difference, in my humble opinion.

I am happy to read that you had a nice stay at the GF. It is a beautiful resort (and my husband's favorite). If you have any photos to share, please post the link. We Dis'ers just love to view photos. ;)

chinamom3,

You said you were on the 4th floor, what was your room # and what was your view? What kind of room? Decor? Please give me all the details you can, we are trying to choose between a suite or 2 rooms. I need to give DH as much info as possible.
Was the lounge "Kid" friendly? Mainly for a 2 yr. old and 6 yr. old.
Thank You so much. I am so glad that some came back with a completely positive review.

Wendi-we were in rooms 4418 and 4419, but they did not connect. We liked our room placement very much, because we were not close enough to the conceirge lounge to hear the noise, but still just a hop, skip, and a jump from the food offerings, and the music in the afternoons and evening. (Piano player in the late afternoons, band in the evenings. This is one difference versus Sugar Loaf, as I believe someone else mentioned. Just depends on what you want to pay for.) As far as the room decor, our room had 2 queen beds, with the "cameo" design-I think I saw a link here on the boards to pictures. Our balcony was a great setting for seeing the fireworks, but we could not see the castle. Our view looked out on the garden, pool, and lagoon and Poly to the left. My sister's room was a deluxe room, 2 queens, very large sitting area, and foyer, with a balcony shaped similar to a short L, also great for viewing the fireworks. Unfortunately, that is also the handicapped room-there is no tub in the bathroom, just a large sit-down shower. They offered to change her room to one on the third floor when one came available two nights later, but she stayed where she was. I don't think they can tell you it's the handicapped room, so if it's assigned when you get to the hotel, 4419, you'll know. We were told there were six deluxe rooms (I'm sure there are more, maybe they meant just on this wing and these two floors) and one had to be handicapped-ready by law. As far as the concierge lounge being child-friendly, it most definitely was! They have two small tables and chairs, and a TV in front of a comfortable couch that the little ones can watch. All adults in the concierge lounge, whether CMs or guests, were pleasant to the children there during our length of stay. And, no hoarding of food, as I've read about in other boards! They did run out of White Zinfindel wine one evening, and the woman who was in charge said they didn't expect people to be drinking so much of that particular kind! The next night, they had more of it than the other kinds! We had a 7 year old and an eleven year old in our group, but there were other children in the area, and in the whole hotel, and all seemed to have a great time. No one got bent out of shape having children there-it's Disney, right? We especially loved the music in the evenings. We saw several men dancing impromptu with their young daughters in the grand lobby, and where we were, too. We visited the Poly while we were there, because I've stayed there before, and wanted my sister to see it. While it is a wonderful place, both the hotel and especially the pool were EXTREMELY crowded. And, the pool over there is MUCH smaller than the two that are at GF. Our girls loved swimming in both the pools at the GF, and there were also plenty of lounge chairs. I know you'll have a Disney time at the GF!:Pinkbounc

chinamom,

Thank You for getting back with us so quickly. We have stayed at the GF several time, just not in the Main Building. That's why I am trying to get as much info as possible. We have stayed Poly Concierge and still favor the GF for overall experience. I wish I could afford to stay for a month just to relax at the pools. Anywho, I have another quick question........
Are the toiletries different than in the reg. rooms? Do you get a toothbrush, toothpaste or any other special things?
How was Mousekeeping?
Thanks, Wendi

Toothbrush and toothpaste...no. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion. Mousekeeping did the thing with the towels several nights, as well as position the toys on the bed, yada, yada. Actually, in December we stayed at the All-Stars, and they did the same thing! And, they seemed to add more mints each night~!?

Thank You!

Now to decide between a suite or 2 rooms?

Wendi

How many people are you talking about? The deluxe rooms really are huge; two queen beds, a large sitting area in front of TV, more space coming into the room, and a foyer that is big enough to hold a piece of furniture.

chinamom3,

We are talking about 6 people. 4 Adults, 3 children. I just can't justify the extra money for a suite. When I win the Lottery I won't think twice about renting the suite, but until then I have to think realistically.

Wow - I am so glad to read a rave review of the GF concierge! I love the GF, but was leaning toward trying the Poly concierge for our next trip because of all the negative GF concierge reviews.. Not that the Poly concierge would be a mistake, mind you, but I'd love to try concierge in my family's favorite resort. Thanks! :D

Wendi, I understand completely. I don't think they let more than five in a standard room, but I don't know about suites. Two standard room would be fine and I know that they do have rooms that connect, we just didn't ask for it.
