We just came back from VB - 3 nights in a Beach Cottage - and the BW - 4 nights in a 2BR. VB was beautiful - we even saw a whale down by McClarty's Museum - but it is a bit too quiet for my idea of a vacation. Other members of my group absolutely loved it so to each his own. The slide was fun but adults are not allowed to slide on their backs - they have to sit up - so you can not pick up any speed on the slide. The beach is nice but not as nice as the Jersey shore ( I am an LBI fan) and the ocean water was cold with almost no waves. There were no bugs and my kids loved the campfire - the CMs have incredible energy. We liked the Shutters porch but the food was just ok once you ventured into the entrees.
The trip to the BW was much longer then I expected - almost 1 hour and 45 minutes - and the stop at the store on the way in made it a tough day for little kids. The BW is still undergoing alot of renovations. The entire quiet pool courtyard was closed with scaffolding covering the area and the pool drained of water...Approximately one-half of the BW villas side is also covered with scaffolding. Our room was a BW view on the 5th floor and was in very nice shape. The new rugs are also great. We go every January and there was much more activity on the BW then usual this time of year. I think they compensated for the earlier closings with extra activity at night. There were jugglers, a cowgirl and roving musicians. One comment on the Parks - Splash Mountain was closed but the line rides were very short for all other rides.
Even with the renovations, the BW looked great and the staff was extremely nice. Already planning next years trip...I LOVE THE DVC!!! Rich

Well, it is January. ;) (I think you'd find the water off LBI even nippier.) The ocean in Florida is different than the Jersey Shore in that some times it can be almost like a lake it's so still and another time you have the roaring waves that surfers love. The steps to the beach at Vero have been ripped off more than once when the surf is really up.

Thanks for taking time to report and glad you had a fun trip!

Rich--When were you at Vero? We were there from 1/6-1/12 and also got to see a whale--from the resort boardwalk. (on 1/10) It was amazing! They told us that they're not spotted very often. That was just awesome for us Midwestern landlubbers!
