We are just back from the worst trip ever to WDW. We had the misfortune of staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Our room was the absolute dirtiest room I have ever had. We spoke with management and were assured that our concerns would be addressed. They were not. We left a gratuity for the housekeeper with the hopes that it would inspire a better job. It did not. When we attempted to move, we were told by the front desk that they could not locate a standard room in any of the deluxes. Eventually we moved for the final night there. Every WDW guest is entitled to a clean room regardless of the level of the resort. This experience ruined the vacation. We found ourselves discussing the situation all the time. We cleaned the room a bit on our own. We spent so much time on the phone looking for a resolution to the situation that everyday of our stay was dominated by the problems. I know there are many people who will come to the defense of the staff at CBR but in addition to the filth we encountered, the inability or unwillingness of the staff to help us was overwhelming. I planned the trip for a friend and myself and can't help but feel responsible for the worst trip we have ever had.
If misery does indeed love company, then I'll let you know that we, too had a VERY dirty room at CBR for one night (too many) in 2008.
We decided to drive straight through and stay at CBR one night before our 8-night stay at the CR. We had driven about 14 hours (had been up since 3:30AM) and arrived (exhausted) at around 7:30PM.
We got to our room and it was the filthiest hotel room I have probably ever stayed in. We only paid $100 with tax (had a -40% off pin) and were only staying one night, but that was defintely $100 too much and one night too many.
We found rubber bands for braces strewn all over the room, our bathroom was like yours, the carpet was filthy, the bed was sagging in the middle, all surfaces were dusty and dirty, well, you get the point - it was NOT clean. We were very tired, needed to eat and just get to sleep so we endured the one night after I cleaned-up as much as I could stomach.
We got up very early the next day (I couldn't sleep all night) and drove over to the CR as fast as we could.
Suffice it to say, we would NEVER stay at CBR again, even for one night or for free. That's a memory that sticks with you forever.
I'm sorry that you had to endure more than one night and that you wasted yours and your friends' money on such a dreadful experience. It certainly wasn't your fault.
I've always wished that WDW had consistent, across the board (high) standards for housekeeping. It's a shame that it's acceptable, at any WDW resort, to have sub-standard levels of cleanliness. We had a similar experience at the Poly in 2007, but were able to transfer after 3 nights to the CR and salvage our trip. Even the rooms that seem fairly clean aren't very clean when you really scrutinize it
