Aloha! We just returned from another fab stay at the Poly. I knew this would be a great stay when I arrived at 11:00 am and my room was ready and ALL of my requests were met! Our room was immaculate and the CM's reaffirmed my feelings that they are the best on property. Everyone we encountered was so nice and helpful. The guests were all in the same mindset, to enjoy a laid back relaxing vacation. I met a family who has stayed here 20 times and shared alot of tips that shaved about an hour a day off my schedule. Anyway, everything around the resort looked great, you really had to look hard for any damage from Charley. The common areas inside and out were spotless also. It stinks to be home!

I'm checking in on 9/28 with my DH who I haven't seen in 5 months due to Military Deployment! I'm meeting him at the airport in FL and driving right to the POLY! I can't wait!!!!!!!! I hope my vacation goes as well as yours did!

I have a lagoon view room booked I hope I wind up in Tahiti, I hear its beautiful! Any suggestions on how to get that long house?

well, I'm glad to hear you had a great time!!!

I requested Niue, bottom floor floor on the GCH side. I wanted the closet longhouse to the monorail and GCH and we had stayed here on the quiet pool side before. I knew going in that this was a smoking building (we are not smokers, but are not super sensitive to smoke) as with our last stay, we did not smell any smoke. The only way I could've got closer to the GCH was to put a cot in the lobby. This resort really comes alive after 9:00 PM! The location was very quiet and private because there is no walking path past the rooms on that side. I did something that I never done before in requesting the room, I did not fax my request, I only noted it on my reservation. Dopey, I know you and DH will have a great time, and thank him for the sacrafice he is making for our country! Please make sure when you make your request, that you let them know how special this stay is. Also Tahiti is a great choice, we strolled by it on our walks around the resort. One other thing, don't forget the bug repelllent, thankfully I remembered mine but alot of people who were on the beach for the fireworks were being eaten alive!

Hey treehugger, what's this about the bug spray? Is it because of all the foliage there? I need to remember to pack mine. Di you have a fridge in your room ? That seems to be the question of the moment, whether they are in all the Deluxes yet. I requested one the other day just to be safe. I just won't mention the fee if I'm charged. Dh would say forget it, I say I want my diet coke in the morning!

Treehugger: Thank you for your kind words, I will definately pass them on to my DH! When I made the reservation I told them at central reservations and she said she would put it on my reservation, but I think I will call a couple of days before and remind them. Thank you also for the "heads up" on the bug spray, I didn't even think of that!:worship:

Just another vote for the bug spray! We didn't need it so much at the resort but at the MK during MNSSHP! Last year was the first time we went to the party (first time we were in the MK after dark!) and the bugs were AWFUL! We were rubbing anti-bacterial hand gel on ourselves to try and get the bugs to leave us alone. We asked a CM if bug spray was sold anywhere in the park and she said it wasn't; they had stopped selling it because guests were complaining that the spray was causing respiratory problems (I assume triggering asthma attacks). So, bring your own! ::yes::

Glad to hear your stay was so magical. The Polynesian is the best, isn't it?! Did you dine there or anywhere on the monorail circuit?

dopeys biggest fan, let me add my gratitude to your husband for his service. Hope you have a perfect stay. We'll be around 3 weeks behind you.::yes:: Can't wait.

We did not have a fridge in our room, and I tend to think they are not in place yet because I saw one in the hall after our neighbors checked out. We ate at alot of monorail resorts. Kona for Dinner (yum), GF Cafe for Dinner (just so so), and Concourse Steak House for breakfast (outstanding, highly recommend). I guess the bugs are especially bad due to all the standing water due to the hurricanes. I didn't notice them on my patio but by the water and especially at dusk at the MK they were out in force. We were lucky enough to snag two seats in the train station for Wishes and they were VERY bad up there. I felt sorry for a family with two children who had to leave because the little girl was getting a bite every minute. I was so glad I remembered to apply the repellent before we went over there!

We were at the Poly in May and also got eaten alive by the mosquitoes while watching the water parade. Fortunately I had brought bug repellant to use the second time out there. I really don't think it has to do with the hurricanes as my trip was in May when we experienced it.

Sounds like you had a really great trip! Thanks for sharing the tip about the bug spray. I never thought about packing it ... mostly because we've hardly had any bugs up here all summer.

How were the crowds. Are people avoiding Florida because of the hurricanes? Any sense if locals are too busy with trying to get life back together to attend the parks?

Thanks....going in a few dyas and want to know what to expect. Will be nice to bring some money down there to where the tourism has been affected.

WOW! I've been at the Poly before but enver eneded bug repellant (I can't even spell it!!!) - hope they sell it there...

Dopeys biggest fan -

Call the Poly either early morning or early evening *before check-out or after check-in*, ask for the front desk and then ask them to note your reservation - be sure to mention about your hubby being away etc. They are very nice there and I think you'll have no problem getting Tahiti - it's one of the quieter longhouses and a bit farther from the GCH, so not as requested. BUT it has some of the largest rooms at the Poly - it is lovely..

Here's the Poly phone #: 407-824-2000

You can call 3- 5 days prior :)

God Bless your DH and you as well...I grew up in a military family and know how difficult it is when you are home alone.

Have a wonderful R&R!!!!
p.s. We check in at the Poly the day before :)

I found Off wipes at Walmart(they were by the check out line). Easier to pack and carry than a spray can.

I was really dreading this trip because I felt so bad for the locals who lost everything. The first two days were so quiet, I mean hardly any crowds in MK, even on EE. But as the week progressed everything was filling back up. A CM at the Poly told me alot of people had cancelled due to Ivan. I met alot of people from Central Florida over the weekend (this was the first time in over a month where they could really enjoy the magic) and they told me things are starting to get back to normal, but everyone was concerned that the recent hurricanes would scare tourism (their biggest industry) away. It's strange but I felt my 11.5 % room tax and the sales tax on meals and my truck load of souvenoirs was helping, albeit in some small way. Also I noticed mostly tree damage and the majority of that was by the airport, with some going into MGM.
