DH and I were there from Sunday 8/15 until Thursday morning 8/19. We arrived there at about 7pm. The place was dark and rainy and there was no one to be found at the outside of the resort. We saw a lot of tree damage. At check in we asked for a downtown disney view if possible. They didn't have any studios left with that view. (I didn't have my heart set on that at all because we were checking in so late.) We got Studio 2732. If you're facing Congress Park, it's the pink building all the way at the far right end. Our studio faced what the cast member at check in said was "a lagoon." It was more like a puddle and 4 parking lots, but between Hurricane Charley making us nervous that our trip wasn't even going to be possible and the fact that it was our first trip away together without our kids since our honeymoon, we weren't too concerned with the view at all.
The area was very very quiet, which was nice for our short trip, but for a week or longer, I think I'd be bored and claustrophobic looking out at nothing but a few trees, a puddle, and 4 parking lots in the distance. The room was really great. 2732 is a non smoking room. It was very clean, well stocked, and loved the decor.
We never managed to find the walkway to DD, but found out on the last day that it was actually behind our building. It isn't well marked or well travelled. Due to Charley, the boat to DD didn't operate until Wed., but the bus service was fantastic. We never waited more than a couple of minutes for the bus we wanted and sometimes we had the entire bus to ourselves! (Except for the standing room only bus on the way back to the resort after Wishes, but that's to be expected.)
Artist's Palette was a bust for me. When we return with our kids, we will have to make a definite grocery stop and not run out of too much. We split a turkey brie sandwich one day and that was tasty. I didn't care for the breakfast platter of eggs, etc. I know that DD is very close, but one GREAT restaurant at SSR would really hit a homerun for me. Sometimes, you don't even feel like a bus ride.
The feature pool and the pool behind our building were great. Loved the bar and arcade near the main pool. Donald was not shooting any water...perhaps due to electical issues post-Charley. The pools were definitely crowded and I'm concerned with how they'll handle more guests. A second feature pool would be a blessing.
I like to walk, but when the heat index is 105, the distance from the main resort area to a far Congress Park studio can be felt. Too bad guests couldn't rent those golf carts!
Everyone was very nice. We got a couple of welcome homes. Our bellmen were the friendliest.
I had a spa treatment and that place is TOP SHELF! I will be using the health club facilities, shower and spa facilities there on longer trips in the future for sure.
We're looking forward to a 2 BR next summer with our 3 boys.
