Hi Everyone,

Just back from a 1 bedroom stay in room 2203 (Congress Park). I'll just hit the highlights and then people can ask questions if they have them.

Remember this is just my opinion, we went to SSR because we wanted to have our own impressions realizing everyone is different.

Room:

Awesome, in 2nd building from DTD facing DTD in Congress Park. About 50 feet to the quiet pool and 50 feet to the bus stop. I mean we were close to 2 of the biggest needs (Pool and Bus Stop), I highly recommend this area.
I thought I would be disappointed with not getting Springs, but no, the walk to the main pool was easy even in the heat and we did it everyday.

I cannot state enough how nice it is to have a 1 bedroom ( for a family of 4 with small kids). The room was very very nice.

Resort:

This place is very nice, very colorful and impressive. Yes, it will be big but we really liked the openness, I think the growth of the vegetation is perfect right now. It felt magical when we drove in despite the construction, which should be done soon. The open hallways were no big deal, it's just SSR's style, you don't spend your time in the hallways.

The spa looked awesome, even though we didn't indulge.

Pools:

The main pool was one of the reasons we chose SSR. The Main pool was great, the small slide for little ones, the water sprite area with Donald, and the Zero entry made life in the pool a very enjoyable experience for my family. If you have small kids this is DVC's best pool area. Yep, you read it right, let the debate begin. (OK, SAB is awesome) but the water sprites gave this pool the edge. The quiet pool was good, it was a pool, but it was close.

Check in:

This was just OK, it could be improved, 30 minutes to 45 minutes is bit long but they were all trying hard, I think it's more the people asking so many questions. I don't know, when I get to my turn I usaully have my you know what together and get checked in fairly quickly, I seen others at the counter for 20 minutes, What are they talking about?

Food and Retail:

Closing at 10:00 at night and not opening until 7:30 a.m in the morning affected us on several occasions. There are alot of people who are up early, not having the ability to get something was a minor inconvienence, this was really my only complain, also one night at 10:00 p.m they were closing up Artist Pallette and there was easy 30 to 40 people in there. I mentioned to the manager that they should look at their hours, he agreed and they might move it to 11:00 p.m close.

Going from Mara at AKL to Artist Pallette was a big drop off in food service. SSR will have to address this going forward or I'm afraid they will get alot of complaints.

Buses:

No problems, like I said we were right near the bus stop, for the most part buses were on time except for one day when we didn't see an MK bus for 30 minutes. The drop off/pick up routine was thrown off because of construction but otherwise good.

Overall:

This is a very nice resort and we will return, maybe even before we go back to BWV. We missed being closer to the parks but managed pretty well, it's not that bad. Being near DTD was nice. The parks were actually not to crowded because of Hurricane threats, but the last thing I want to say is.....

We are not going in summer anymore (if we can help it).
IT WAS HOT.

Had a great time, feel free to ask any questions.

Great information!! We (ok, I'm) deciding on SSR or OKW for our upcoming trip in October. I have a friend who is willing to rent us points. It was neat to hear a first hand point of view. If I come up with any questions, I'll refer back to this post!!

OH, btw, I see you had a daughter in June 1998???? Me too!! We just went to celebrate her birthday, it was the 17th. What a great month to have a birthday!

Nice report! Some friends of ours stayed at SSR last month and also said that the pool there was their favorite, for the same reasons you had. Thanks!

Thanks so much for all the points about SSR. We are going Oct. 8-15 (our first time as DVC members). I have been getting a bit frightened after reading some of the negative posts. The way I see it is that anytime we actually spend at the resort we will either be sleeping (and i haven't read many negatives about the rooms) or going to the pool (which I think most agree is very nice). I have requested a 2nd floor (for viewing purposes) and have asked for Congress Park or the Springs building. Hopefully I'll get one of the two! Any other suggestions on building or floor would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, definately 2nd floor, that's what we had and it was perfect, we were on the end of the building near the stairs which was 50 ft away from bus stop, also facing DTD and quiet pool. Congress section was great, not really that bad of a walk to the main pool, you get use to it and it goes fast, we went to the main pool everyday and almost every night.

I think the springs buildings would be nice too, just no view of DTD, no biggee really, you'll like either section, we were impressed with SSR considering what we have read on the boards.

Have a great time, we are planning our next trip.

I hear this. The first time I went to WDW was in July 1995 and the temperatures were in the upper 90s / lower 100s. The lines were long and I had a miserable time. I don't go in the middle of the summer any more. In fact, after that trip, I couldn't understand why anybody liked Disney. Not fun. A friend suggested going back at a different time of the year so I went the next year at Xmas and I have been going back every year since. The heat and the crowds are just not enjoyable. I enjoyed your report on SSR.

Thank you so much for posting this. We are taking our first trip "home" in October with my parents and then going in January with DH's family. I have requested Congress Park both times since we are travelling with elderly family that have a lot of health issues. My question would be this: if we don't get Congress Park and end up in one of the outlying buildings how long do you think the walk would be to the main pool/areas? My husband's family is especially picky and I am just a nervous wreck since I did the planning and they have mentioned several times they want to be walking as little as possible at the resort. Also, isn't there a bus that takes you within the resort? Thanks again!

Amy&Dan,

Congress park is the furthest walk to the main pool but it has it's own quiet pool, I would say the paddock buildings (some are open, some still under construction) are equal distance to main pool as congress park is, maybe a little shorter depending what building you get. The Springs buildings are the closest to the Main pool and right there, 2 to 3 minute walk tops.

The other buildings maybe 10 minutes to pool, really not that bad once you walk a few times it feels much shorter. We went to Main Pool everyday and the walks were not that bad contrary to how many people felt they were long.

All buildings have bus stops and they are right there, 5 min from any building.
3 bus stops total, with 1 temporary stop right by the main pool for now.

SSR is a really nice resort, we were pleasently surprised, the main pool as I stated in my report is awesome for little ones, we felt next to SAB that SSR's main pool is DVC's best.

Have fun

Great to hear You had a nice time. We are traveling to SSR in April and had heard negative feed back. We have been vacationing in Disney World for a long time with Our children...because of the quality you just can not find elsewhere. I truly believe SSR is new and is still working out the kinks, like any major resort...in a few years it will be up to speed with the rest! Thanks again for a positive view!
