This was our second stay in a year and had a great time!!! Weather was good and when you know how to work the parks the crowds are minimal. Never waited more then 20 min for some rides others were less.

I heard that SSR was suppose to be getting a new restaurant. I heard an August opening but didn't catch what year. I assumed August 07? I also heard that SSR was suppose to be getting a Main Street with shops and other things?

Just want to know if anyone has heard anything like this or is it just the rumor mills working?

I haven't heard the whole main street shops thing, but it sounds interesting.

I thought the full service restaurant was suppose to open this summer. I hope so. Our trip is in december and it would be nice to have it operating by then. That Main Street idea does sound very appealing. I think it'd be a nice touch. Glad you had a nice stay at SSR.

The restaurant is already there, but has been used as a "club", serving liquor. I think it is called the "Tack club" or some such thing.
Anyway the restaurant was originally called the Pompano Grill. This was before the Ei$ner debacle called the Disney Institute. During the Institute period, it was called Seasons. When they eliminated the Institute, and built SSR, they put in the Artists Pallet, which, I believe, still uses the old Pompano Grill/Seasons kitchen. I guess they finally realized that with the size of the resort, they were going to need a regular sit down eatery. Now here's a case of an old Disney thing having a "re-birth". We really enjoyed the Pompano Grill, and hopefully when they re-open it, which I do believe will be this summer, July comes to mind, from some original info put out by Disney, we will once again enjoy it.

I read that The Turf Club will be the location of the restaurant and the name will be The Turf Club Bar and Grill. It's scheduled to open in July or Aug. 06.

The Main Street idea sounds lovely. I would like to see something like that.

That would surprise me. Typically, each Disney resort has one combination gift and convenience store. And considering that SSR does not draw many visitors who are are not also SSR guests, it would been hard to create a business justification for "a Main Street with shops and other things."

The SSR complex has buildings left over from the Disney Institute, so maybe it's possible that more of this space could be turned into retail space as the "population" of SSR increases.

We are at SSR now and had a look at where the new TS restaurant will be last night. The restaurant will include the patio area outside the current Turf Club bar, and the room which looks over it, which was unused as far as I know.

Work looks to have just started. It looks like they are constructing an outside bar on the outside patio, right next to the entrance to the current Turf Club, and work also looks to have just started on the new restaurant area.

It's going to be a lovelly area with the patio too, and has some nice views towards the bridge that leads to the start of the golf course, and the putting green. There are a few trees that block the view at the moment, but hopefully they will remove them.

We also had a look at the new buildings being built on the golf course. They overlook some of the holes, which is great for golf nuts like me. They will also be pretty close to the Carriage House area. Personally I can't wait to stay in them.

The whole resort is really starting to mature, and looks fantastic with all of the lakes etc.

Anyway, the weather's great so enough typing :sunny:

I don't know, the resort will be huge once all the buildings are completed. I think when all of the construction equiptment and debris is gone, the place will be quite attractive to those not staying there. The old Institute buildings make perfect sense for some sort of themed shopping area. Time will tell....

Thanks for the info about the villas overlooking the golf holes. My DH will enjoy that, if we manage to snag one of those rooms one day.

I actually heard about the shops as well, I cant remember by whom, but I am pretty sure it was a cast member .... I just remeber not walking away feeling it was a "rumor" ....lets keep our fingers crossed

It would be nice to have a place for the DVC'ers to mingle and shop ... a nice "gated" community shopping experiance

ya know, keep all the riff raff out!!! lol ;)

I don't think it takes all that much. They can partition a convience store/gift shop into three different store fronts. Add a information office, a restaurant, and a bar and voila! you have Main Street
