Just back from POR

We just returned from POR on Saturday. (SO SAD:sad:  ) We loved POR! The pool was awesome, the check-in process was quick and painless, mousekeeping was great..I could go on and on! Our mousekeeper left our stuffed animals in cute little poses to welcome us back each night and we got a towel animal. The refillable mugs are a lifesaver when you get back from the parks after a long hot day. Bus service was efficient. We didn't wait for any bus for more than 15 minutes...either to the parks in the AM or on the way back at night. Most times we waited much less than that. (The line always looked LONG and SCARY but the buses came quickly and did a great job clearing the people out!) We had a small problem with water delivery, but the front desk was very helpful and fixed the problem quickly. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and so peaceful to return to after a day at the parks. My only regret....we didn't have enough time to spend exploring the resort as much as I would have liked. I would definitely go back and this time plan time to hang out at the resort. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have! If I can't be there, I may as well relive it by talking about it!! :goodvibes

So glad to hear your positive review on POR! Our family(we have two DS 10 and 7) will be staying here for the first time in October! We can't wait! It is so funny that you said you wanted to spend more time exploring and enjoying the resort! I have several days planned for us to just relax and use the pools, go to DTD, or whatever! We went to Disney last June, and were the park hopping family and didn't really rest. We just spent the entire time "Going, Going, Going". So, I decided this time since we will be at POR(instead of ASMO) we are really going to try to spend some quality time at the resort instead of going non-stop! So glad to hear the positives on the busses too! :cool1:

We love POR. We have been there twice. On our last trip to WDW we went resort hopping, though after checking out all the other resorts I would still go back to POR. We find the AB section to be the best mainly for the landscaping. (see below)

The pathways are beautiful. The boat to DTD is great and the over all feel of POR is relaxing. I highly recommend it!!

Thanks Dave for those photos. I absolutely love looking at the pathways in the AB section. I think they look relaxing and beautiful. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :sunny: I did not realize 18 was smoking-optional- we HAVE to have NON-smoking! We have no problems walking a little further, if it is quieter, good point. I can't wait to go- this is a family birthday surprise for the kids- they think we are not going until late 2008! :teeth:

This shouldn't be a problem by the time you arrive for your trip... ALL disney hotels will be smoke-free starting in June. So you can feel free to stay in Building 18 if you'd like :hippie:

You have me really excited about staying @ POR! This will be our 1st time and we have scheduled the horse and carriage ride thru the property for one evening. My 6yr dd and her grandfather are so excited about fishing too. They always bring their poles and fish @ Pop. I hope we get AB building. My dd is so excited about the trundle bed!! We will be there in 16 more day! Hooray!!!

No elevators...staircases on the corners of the buildings. Not bad...but I didn't have little kids to carry up after a long day at the parks. Mine walked!

Our last trip to WDW was in oct. 1999 and we stayed at BWV...we took a trip one day around to the different resorts...and fell in love with POR. Well....we check-in on Sunday! I can't wait ...there are 5 of us..so AB here we come!

also..stupid mug question..

Can they only be used at the resort? or anywhere? help!

We have 49 days left. Crazy that we all know the EXACT amount of days until WDW!

Dave - thanks for the pics. We were there 2 years ago and cannot wait to go again. Those pics just got me that much more excited!

Are the refillable mugs the new mugs? I was hoping for the million dreams mugs, but the last thread I read, they were still the brownish ones. I know some people don't like the new mugs, but I am ready for a NEW one to add to the small collection we have.

We also have a carriage ride planned. Our first night there, in the late evening. We like going when it is dark. For us it makes it much more magical and exciting!

I posted pictures of the mugs I got last week as well as some other of the grounds at POR. The mugs are the new YOAMD ones with the gang in blue. I love mine! Enjoy!

That last picture is the view from outside our door. It was absolutely beautiful!

We stayed at POR in 2001 and loved it. DH and I were in AB, and I couldn't get over how perfect everything was. Of course, I can't remember which building we were in, but it was a short walk to everything...bus stop, pool and main building. The landscaping was so lovely and peaceful. I'm hoping that we're going to be heading back sometime this year or in 2008, and if so--POR will be our No. 1 choice of resort.

mommyto3boys - thanks for the pics! I am so glad about the new mugs! When I clicked on the picture I just smiled BIG. If some "non" Disney person was watching me, they would think I was silly getting excited about a mug. Your boys looked like they were having fun! Thanks so much for the info!

ITA! We stayed at Christmas and had a very similar experience as you did, even with bus waits. One night we came back to our room and the tv was on, we figured one of the kids forgot to turn it off but My DD's stuffed Donald was holding the remote and watching tv. The kids thought this was so cool! I would highly recommend this resort.

BUT, if it was smoking optional in the past- I'd still be worried. I would much rather stay in a building that has always been non-smoking. :sunny:

My co-worker just got back, and she stayed at CBR, on my advice. First time for them (a couple in their early fifties) They loved it, and were sad they had never experienced it before until now!!:cloud9:

Great report! POR was our first love and even though I have DVC now, we still make a yearly trip to POR :) I highly recommend spending some time at the resort and enjoying it. This will be our 4th year in a row for an annual August trip to POR. We always stay at AB because we have 5 and we love it. The kids also like the quiet pools at POR for evening swims.

LAst year we tried the paddle boats and had a great time. They are fairly inexpensive at about $10/hour and you can paddle up to 4 people around the Sassagoula. Piano Bob plays in the lounge a few nights a week too and that is worth seeing.

We like to sit out on the benches and have a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the birds. Just a great place to really feel like you're on vacation! I can't wait to go back :cheer2:

One of our favorite resorts. We first started going when it was Dixie Landings and we still call it that to be honest. We fell in love with the resort, as our kids were little when we first started going. We now belong to the DVC so we don't get to go there much, but when we do it is so full of great memories. When we walk around we can still hear our kids squealing in the pool or decorating our window with the days pictures and souv's. A funny story about when we were on our first trip there. The resort itself intimidated us a bit because we thought it was so big. When the bus driver didn't hear us to let us off our stop, we were in a panic. We did manage to get off at the main bus stop, and went to a CM and told him our plight. He didn't hesitate, went and got one of the carts and took us to our building. We didn't realize that it was probably a 2 minute walk, but later in our stay we were a bit embarrassed about it. I give them credit, they just took us where we wanted to go and never flinched. Yes, Dixie will always have our hearts, though we stay at the Deluxes now we always like going back there to stay.:goodvibes
