We just returned today from a 7 night stay at POR, and had a great time. Our room, Oak Manor #9215, was on the back side (parking lot side) on the end of the wing closest to the East Depot. It was a really good location, only about a 3 minute walk to the East Depot, and a good 10 minutes to the main building.
The room was on a corner, and was very clean. The carpet, walls, furniture, and bedding were in excellent condition. I forgot to check to see what type it was, but the mattress was extremely comfortable, and I loved having the large "dressing" area in the bathroom. Most mornings my hubby and I could get 90% ready for the day before waking the kids to get them dressed. Since we had several breakfast ADR's, we usually would not go to the food court for breakfast, and would just eat yogurt or cereal in the room to avoid having to get out that much earlier.
In the mornings, the buses seemed to pick up at East Depot 3rd, then go to the South Depot, which always seemed the most crowded. We always found a seat without having to stand in the mornings, and the buses were running very frequently. I would assume that FQ was picked up first.
Most evenings, especially EMH ones and at MK, Riverside and FQ would have separate bus lines, so that was nice. In the evenings, the South Depot was the first drop off, and East Depot was last. not a big deal, since we didn't have to fight the crowds to get off the bus.
After hearing about the horrible bus issues, I was pleasantly surprised at how hassle-free the whole experience was. Leaving a park, we never waited over about 10 minutes for a bus. It just seemed that at every park "bus area", you could count on the Port Orleans bus being the last bus-stop in the row, without fail! What's up with that??
Our only "problem" was that on our first day in the parks at MK, the boys were pouting and whining about wanting to go back to the hotel and ride the boats! Maybe Disney makes the resorts TOO appealing for kids!!
By the last day, the kids had figured out the resort had a pool (we had very much avoided walking by Ol' man island!), so we had to break down and take them swimming. Unfortunately, the slide was closed by that time, but they had a great time anyway.
I can't think of any drawbacks to this resort. We had a connecting room with my MIL, and my DD3 was "booked" into her room, but we kept all of the luggage in our room. The first night, I halfway unpacked (I think there were 3 larger drawers, and 2 smaller ones) so with a little creativity, I was able to make 7 suitcases work and not feel crowded. I stuck 2 smaller ones (emptied) behind the connecting door, was able to fit a smaller suitcase with toiletries between the sinks, keep two in the closet area (along with a pop-up hamper--very useful), and move the table down a little to put two between the tv and table. We were able to also keep the kids backpacks and our carryons underneath the bench. At least we were not tripping over everything all week!
I realized today that I didn't get pictures (I guess I was just too in to it, and didn't take alot of pictures, except at character meals and parades!
Thanks for letting me share about my trip to POR!
