I've never done a trip report before, but here it goes!
Who: Me (39) DH(40) DD(13) DD(11) DS(9) DS(4) and my sister (43)
When: September 23-Oct3rd 2011
Where: POP Century resort!
This was our first ever trip to the World, having been to Disneyland several times, we were all VERY excited to see Disneyworld for the first time!
Thursday September 22, 2011
We left home around 9:30am and headed south to Seattle, from Vancouver, BC. Our flight didn't leave until 6:30 in the evening but we wanted to do a little bit of shopping and meet a couple of DH's cousins he had never met before. His cousins had just moved to Seattle from Michigan and we planned to meet for lunch that afternoon. So off we went, crossed the border without any issues and we were on our way! We did a little shopping, met DH's cousins for lunch(which was soooo amazing to see family we had never met before!!!) and then headed for the airport. Easy check-in...although my DD13 had packed some homework and forgot she had SCISSORS in her bag, lol. So of course they had to go through her carry-on, but we had a ton of time, so no problem. Finally made it through security...had a quick bite at the airport, boarded our plane to LA.A quick 2.5 hr flight to Los Angeles, where we had to catch a connecting flight to Orlando. Only problem...the gate we needed to be at for our connecting flight was wayyyyy over on the other side of the airport and we only had an hour to get off of our plane, run to the next gate, go through security again (which of course was lined up!), but we made it!!!
FINALLY off to Orlando! This would be a 5 hr flight, we left LA at 10:40pm and got to MCO at around 6:00am. I got talked into taking an overnight flight by a friend who insisted it was "the best"...well...not so much, lol. I was restless, thankfully the kids mostly slept but all in all, I wouldn't choose an overnight flight again. We got to MCO and it was deserted(which was the great part!!), made our way to the DME and we were the only ones on the bus! It was AWESOME! it was soooo exciting stepping onto that bus for the first time, even though it was 6:30am (actually 3:30am our time!), the kids were super excited to discover little tvs that played disney stuff while on our way to Pop Century. The only great thing about arriving so early,is that there were no lines to check in. The downside? waiting around after travelling all night for our rooms to be ready! We checked in and went to have breakfast. We were immediately blown away by the variety at Everything Pop...and the food was delicious! We walked around and checked out the resort a bit, my sister fell asleep by the pool and the kids went for a swim. Our rooms weren't ready until about 2:00pm, but I didn't mind. I was in DISNEYWORLD!!
After a nap, my sister and I headed to Walmart and bought a couple of foam coolers and some water, pop and snacks for our rooms. We took it easy the rest of the night and went to bed early so we could get a good nights sleep and be ready for a full day the next day! One thing I wasn't prepared for was the HEAT. OH MY! It was hot and humid. I knew it would be hot, but I wasn't expecting it to be THAT warm!!
We did Magic Kingdom on Friday the 24th. It was pure MAGIC!!!! When we go to Disneyland, we always start with POTC..so we decided not to break tradition and off we went to POTC. Its always been my favorite ride
It was awesome, but I have to admit I was a tad bit disappointed..I have to give Disneyland the upper hand on this one. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but Disneylands POTC is quite a bit better, I guess I was expecting the exact same ride, although I obviously still loved the DW version as I rode it again at least 6 times!
One thing I noticed right away about DW is how FRIENDLY everyone was!! My DD turned 13 a few weeks ago and we got her a birthday button. I can't even begin to describe how amazing it was. The amount of times a CM said Happy Birthday to her was just unbelievable. She went to get a drink and the CM gave it to her for free
Just the little things that make it just that much more magical!
The lines were great, I don't think we waited more than 20 minutes for anything. We rode Splash Mountain twice, Big Thunder Mountain, Peter Pan, Small World, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear twice (DS4 favorite ride EVER!). We spent time just taking in the sights and sounds...truly amazing and what I love about Disney the most..just the entire environment and atmosphere. There's nothing like it in the world!
I'll write more later...time to do laundry now that our luggage finally made it home!(I'll explain later)
