Just back from Poly - Info for all

Glad you liked the Polynesian we love it too! :) Wonder if we crossed paths? Our family was at the Polynesian room 3502 from June 19th - 22nd (then we moved to the Boardwalk for 5 nights - another wonderful resort)

Aloha cousin, glad to hear that you had a wonderful time and that the Polynesian made a believer out of you. You have discovered the paradise as you can tell we have from my tag. Now get planning your next trip to paradise. :D

RayJay - We are also on our way soon, thank you for the report!

I love lagoon view so that my children can see the fireworks, otherwise they would nevery see them, they can't stay out/up that late!

I bet your family was thrilled when you went for the LVC upgrade!

***Tammy -
We are too staying at the Poly CGV in August

I am also a Tammy staying in Hawaii in August! We are 7/31 - 8/7.

Aloha again everyone,

Thanks for all the replies, I can see how popular Poly really is.

I'll try and answer some questions:

TBLaube - O'hana's alternate kids menu as stated in a previous post was Mac and Cheese, Chicken Fingers, etc..., The waiter offered as soon as we sat down, didn't even need to ask.

Dutch63 - Total price including tax for 10 nights LVC was $4100.

Twood - Thanks for your comment, without starting an all out debate, most of us would stand whenever we had too, it's just that every time I go, it never fails that someone is to rude to get up when appropriate, its all about up bringing. This is probrably my only pet peeve in all of Disney.

2Dogman - I don't believe they have vests that small, but we brought our own floaty for our son, which he really didn't need as we stayed with him at the shallow end of pool. You could always call ahead of time or ask Tikiman.

As far as 18 mo old, he was fine, 90 % of the time, naturally they get tired so that's when we split the park. He had his first haircut and that went very well. A couple of times he got cranky in line but that goes with the age, we weren't the only ones with a cranky toddler.

Tikiman - Yes your right, Samoa building is an awesome location and would be great on either side, again thanks for all the info offered on your site.

JESW - Yes, we were just 4 doors down, like I mentioned earlier we were the 2 stroller family, 1 whiner and 1 screamer.

I was the one chasing down the Amaretto's at night for my wife.

Happy 4th
RayJay

Sounds like you had the best vacation ever. Sounds a lot like our stay @ Poly minus the lv room. You just talked me into paying the extra for it next May. Your post got me anxious for my next trip. Glad you had a great one. :)

Thanks so much for the post!!! Do you remember what the evening food offerings were. I think there has been a change since we were last there and I was trying to plan our dinners. Thanks.

Aloha RayJay -

I remember you !!

Our family was at the Poly GVC June 27 - 30. I think we crossed paths in the lounge one evening - I remember a gentelman and his young child picking up sugar free desserts from the cast members behind the serving area one evening. You showed us the desserts and said "aren't they great !" explaining how accomadating the staff had been for you and that you were diabetic. That was you, right !!

We were down the hall in 3524. We , too, are crazy about the Poly. This was our 2nd stay in Concierge and loved every minute of it. We are DVC members and like to do our major park touring while staying in a DVC villa ... then add on a few last nights to our vacation at the Poly in concierge to unwind and really enjoy all the amenities of the lounge and resort.

Glad to hear you discovered the magic of the Poly ... sounds like you and your family had a fantastic time !

Aloha Cindy,

Yes, that was me, I remember saying that, my 6 yr old was in her jammies and I believe the dessert that night was a Strawberry mousse filled cream puff with chocalate mickey's on the side of the plate.

Did you see me come back for the Amaretto's, those were for my wife, honest.

See ya

Princess Crazy

I know Tuesday night was Shushi night, ate at O'hana's that night.

Monday's was a Pasta Fruit Salad (Awesome) and mac w/beef (Awesome)

Sunday's was Chicken and Beef Teriaki on sticks, w/Fried Rice.

I don't remember the other days but the food over the week included, Spring Rolls, many different types of Rice, I believe the tikiman site has the updated menus for all nights.

Plus endless fruit, cookies, drinks, cheese and crackers, beer, milk, cut up vegetables (Cukes, Celery, etc...), also PB and J. Cereals, bagels.

Desserts galore, and top shelf liquor, (Bailey's, Amaretto, Kahula, etc...) Plenty of different Wines and Heinken and Lite Beers.

Whew
Pull up a chair and dig in, have fun.

There are sort of themes for most nights but they can and do change. The list on my web page is just an example of what they had when we were there. It all depends on if Chef Dick is working that night and what he feels like making or if he is off and they get food from ‘Ohana so I would not try to plan for what is going to be served. Also I would not plan on the appetizers being dinner. Not that there have not been times I am full from eating in the lounge but that is not the intension of the food offerings to be a complete meal and we always try to take enough to sample but not too much since everyone wants to try some.

Aloha

Steve, Aloha

I was down there plenty of nights after the rush (say 7 ish) and there was plenty of food left over, wonder who gets the leftovers.

Agree that the food offering is not dinner, but still found it to be more than enough most nights. Heck we seen 1 family with about 50 bowls on their table, and they were chowing down. I mean it was really noticable.

Chef Dick did go on vacation like 3 days after we arrived.

Thanks again
RayJay

Well I hope Dick is back before we get there.

I know they have tried to offer more because people were taking so much at times. I have seen them run out. They did bring more but by then we were on our way. I watched a lady in line hold it up while her kids came and filled up plates and brought them to the table than got more plates and filled them and it was all gone but a few pieces for the rest of us. A staff member made a comment and her answer was her kids got to eat!!! I just hate what is supposed to be a nice extra offering become a food court. I am sure you understand what I am saying. It is funny to sit around late at night with the staff and listen to the stories of what some people will do.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks for the info...We are celebrating my 33rd b-day at this dinner. We are going to watch the torch lighting, have dinner at O'hana's, watch the Electrical Parade, and if we can hang in there...watch the fireworks from the beach. I can't wait! I haven't been to the Poly since 1981.

Help...thinking of 3 nights at a moderate like Coronodo or POR and then surprising DH with 2 nights at Poly Concierge...kids ages 9 and 5

I was just quoted $406.00 for garden concierge...just I upgrade to the lagoon view...forgot how much more....

this is for 10-25...the same weekend as that big golf tournament...

any advice would be great!!!
thanks so much!!!

RayJay-thanks for the great report! You (and Tammydel) have reaffirmed my choice of LV. I have had LV on last 2 trips and was wondering if I should save the money this time around (especially if AP's are the fixed $ off rather than %). Thanks for the advice on life jacket for baby-she didn't go near the water in Jan. Maybe I'll send something down in my package of diapers, wipes,... I mailed a package last year and it was waiting in the room for our arrival then Concierge took care of sending a package home.

We loved Ohana's last year and can't wait to try Kona's-our 1st night dinner.

ellie&mattysmom-We'll be at the Poly LVC 10/22 to 10/29 with DD(5), DS(3 1/2), DD(21 months). You will love Concierge with your kids! What a great surprise!

Thanks Tikiman. I had no intention of using appetizers for dinner. But my kids are little so we usually do dinner around 5pm. Last time we were there for a week and only got up for the appetizers one time. I thought that if there was a night that was exceptionally good, I would schedule a later dinner for that night so we could give them a try. I agree that the offerings are not meant for dinner. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Thanks sooo much for all of the great info. I'm so excited-I feel like a kid at Christmas!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc
I'm surprising my husband-we're staying at the WL for 3 nights (12/4-12/7), then going over to Poly GVC for 4 nights-BUT he thinks we'll be at CBR-hee hee:hyper: :p

We're celebrating our 10th anniversary, so this will be my sweet surprise to him!! (and for me!! :) )

Princesscrazydaughte

I think that is a great idea but you may have to wait till you get there to know what is going to be out and when. I know when there is something we really like at the lounge we try to be in the lounge and than maybe just eat something light later. Check with the lounge when you get there. They won’t be able to tell you for sure at this point. Sometimes it changes the day before.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks for all the posts on the Poly - thanks Tikiman for your website as well...

well, I can now say that I have to start planning my next trip before I leave on my first - - - I have to save enough to do a concierge at the Poly - gee thanks!! *grin!!!

Every post I read about the Poly reaffirms my belief I made the right choice for my family for this trip!! and since I cant do concierge, I'm going to get a bigger carry on and bring my Gran Marnier with me!! :)

When you wish upon a star... makes no difference who you are.... (what a yucky week I'm having, so glad I have my dreams and wishes!!)

Just throwing two more cents in about how great the Poly Concierge is!

I have three older boys, 12,10,9. One of the best parts of the concierge lounge for us in March, was the fact we could "split" the boys up for a while to get snacks/appetizers (of course they eat all the time) without any undue concern for them getting lost, etc. At another property, with a food court, we would be a little hesitant letting them off on their own. They are well mannered individually, but can't stay all three together too long!

Also trying to get them going in morning generally rules out eating breakfast at the same time, so AGAIN the concierge breakfast offerings were a godsend. I enjoy reading how the concierges' convenience helps familys with small children, just wait till they are my sons' age! The Disney experience is personified in a beautiful resort like the Poly!

Mahalo!
