We just returned today from a wonderful stay at the Poly Garden View Concierge (12/9 - 12/15). I've stayed at the Poly numerous times but this was our first CL stay.
We were traveling with my SIL and BIL, both WDW rookies (can you believe it!). They booked a standard GDN view room and we booked CL as we got a great rate with a code earlier in the year and they were not eligible. Upon arrival I went to the GCH with them to check in to see if they could get the Samoa building so they would be close to us in the Hawaii building..***pixie dust**** They were upgraded to CL and we were giving connecting rooms! I was just floored...
The lounge was great - we ate breakfast there every morning. We are not the type to come back to the resort until after dinner so we really didn't use the mid day snacks or appetizers they put out. We did grab a glass of wine or beer when we returned after dinner and I loved the coffee/latte/cappacino machine. I think, though, that unless I get another great code we'll just stick with the standard GDN view room. If we hung around the resort more or if I needed more assistance with ADR's, etc. the CL would be worth the extra money. It was a nice treat though and we did really enjoyed it.
Crowds were pretty much non existent until Friday when there seemed to be groups of kids on a field trip at Epcot and there were sizeable standby waits. Until then nothing was longer than 20 - 30 minutes - even EE was only a 10 minute standby Wednesday afternoon.
Weather was a bit warm for us - we usually go late Nov/early December and this was the warmest we've had lately - 80's and very, very humid....I think it's supposed to cool off this week.
But....what started as a wonderful trip ended on a downer - my husband hadn't been feeling well all week - nothing major, just a bad headache and some shooting pain in his jaw - we thought it was an abcessed tooth. He woke up Fri morning and his eye had swollen so he went to the eye dr and was giving a topical antibiotic...by Friday night his whole face was swelling so the Poly called the paramedics and they took him to Celebration Hosptial - turns out he has shingles!!! The Poly was great as Saturday was our checkout day and they let us stay in both rooms until 3:00 when we knew DH's status. The girls and I had to return home without him but DH will be coming home tomorrow. I have never been so sad leaving Disney - it's usually a bad day but to not be leaving with my husband was absolutely horrible. I had to keep the tears out of my eyes for my DDs' sake but I was torn up inside. We are so blessed, however, that it was not worse as the dr said it was very close to turning into menengitis (sp?).
Still, overall, it was a wonderful trip and we can't wait to start planning our return in 2009. This was a great week to visit, crowdwise.
Any questions??
