Just back from POLY, any questions?

no i could not see the castle from my room, but a short walk to the beach allows you to see it. and didnt smell any fumes from the boats at all anywhere on the property. not to worry!

I bet reedycreek was in a gardenview room that just happened to face the side of the lagoon. Sort of like seeing the lagoon from Samoa. That is what you booked right, gardenview? I think all booked lagoonview rooms at the Polynesian do see the castle.

I have a couple of questions. It's our first stay at the Poly.

Do you know if Kona Cafe closes between lunch and dinner? We thought about doing a late lunch (2pm) on our available day but we were not sure they would be open.

Also is there a counter service at the Poly? Do they have the refillable cups?

Sorry for the first timer questions but we're use to BCV. The DVC didn't have any rooms for our quick trip so we traded in points for the Poly.

thanks

yes it was a garden view room, but on the end, of the house, so i had an obstructed view of the lagoon facing GF wedding pavilion.

kona cafe does close between lunch and dinner, i believe they close at 3pm until 5pm, so plan accordingly.

there is also a counter service at POLY, open till 11pm. its not like the counter service at the moderates, but it works. they have the mugs too.

That room faces the end of Fiji but is on the corner so you would see over to Luau cove and you could see the GF if you looked off to the side but it does not face the same direction as Samoa. It is turned 90 degrees from the direction Samoa faces.

I actually would consider the rooms on the garden view side of Tuvalu some of the worst but as you can see even some of the worst rooms at the Polynesian can still be great rooms.

Oh, I see what you mean. I had Tuvalu and Fiji mixed up!

Do you know if it is true that if you book a lagoonview room, you will be able to see the castle?

Aloha!

steve why would you consider tuvalu to be the worst?

Hi all, I love reading all your reviews! :goodvibes We're going to be staying at the Poly for 5 nights after our 4 day Wonder cruise Jul. 14-17. We are a family of 6 so I thought we'd need two rooms but we got a lagoon concierge room that sleeps 5 and we'll have a crib. Does anyone know what building the concierge lagoon rooms are in? Or if I should request a certain bldg? Disney has already contacted us to ask us if there's anything they can do to make our stay better! We booked a char. breakfast for my DS who will turn 1 on the 21st. And we also booked O'Hanas for dinner that night and mentioned it was a birthday! I want his first b'day to be special, what better than at WDW! Any advice would be welcome :cloud9: :wave2:

For the past three years we have stayed at the Poly. One year in Tuvalu and the last two years in Tahiti. The lagoon view from the third floor was great. Had a 24/7 view of the castle and and excellent view of the fireworks everynight. The best part of the third floor was that there was no one standing in front of us during the fireworks which can be a drawback to a first floor room. The only problem with Tahiti is that it is on the side of the ferryboat landing but that is the least. :cool1:

All lagoon view rooms (except the two in Tokelau) face the lagoon and castle directly but about 10 % of them might have some trees or other plants blocking part of the view.

Tikiman,

I know you had requested a black out of your site in tribute to a loved one who had passed. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Can't remember what the dates were for the blackout....can we now view your site...did not want to disrepect?

THANKS for the wonderful work you do on your site. We are first time Poly visitors this summer and we have done much planning and dreaming on your site.

I walk the resort every time I stay there and look at every single view and if I had to choose the best and worst than the worst out of all would be the parking lot side of Rapa Nui. I took a photo and put it on my Rapa Nui page to show it. The second worst location (in my opinion) would be the garden side of Tuvalu but when I refer to these areas I am using a blanket statement for the whole side of the building and not an individual room because there are some rooms on the garden side of Tuvalu that are good views but since requesting a specific room is a hard request to make I would suggest requesting a building and if I were requesting a garden view room location I would say that Tuvalu would be low on the list because of some of the rooms that only have a view of the end of the Fiji longhouse. I would not want that view myself. I hope that makes sense and I think the room you ended up in is one of the better views.

The web pages are back up. Thanks for asking

My family and I have stayed at all of the mod. resorts and most of the deluxe resorts. The Poly is still our #1 choice. We go back again and again

There is nothing that compares to the lush tropical landscape and the smell of gardenias. The atmosphere when the tiki torches are lit and you can sit on the beach with your children and watch the fireworks over Cinderella Castle or the electric water parade. Magic.

The tonga toast is great too... We have favorite spots at other resorts.. for instance we love going to Boma.. and the clam bake at the Cape May Cafe'.
But the Lush tropical enviroment and wonderfull location of the Polynesian lures us back.

This April will be our first time staying CL. I hear that some of the room remodels are finished and that they have put upgraded bedding (like Westins Heavenly bed?) and plasma tvs?
Has anyone heard this??
Are there any updates on Capn Cooks remodel?

Also , do you all remember when there used to be another resteraunt at the Poly? Down by the arcade. It has been years ago.
What do they do with that space now?

Yes, it was the Tongaroa (sp?) Terrace and I believe it's now used as meeting space...

We miss Tangaroa Terrace as well. It is also used for private dining functons these days.

I was wondering in general if the Poly was worth it. I thought this would be the best place being right next to the monorail and the pool looks fun. What I heard bad from several people was that the spirit of aloha was horrible and their waitstaff was rude. I also heard the customer service was going downhill. And on an internet hotel review site I read horror stories of poor customer service and dirty rooms. I really can't imagine anything Disney being like this. I have gone every year for the past 7 years and a couple of times before that, and I haven't seen anything like that. I think I take your opinion here as being an honest one. I thank you so much. I feel a lot better now.
I just wanted to give my vote, we love the Poly. The service checking in is wonderful. We love the monorail also, just cant be beat. It is also great to be able to walk to ticket & trans to go to Epcot on the monorail.

I wanted to chime in on the vote for the Poly! We got a lagoon concierge in the Hawaii longhouse on the main floor. It was awsome being able to go out and sit on the patio at night and walk down to the beach to watch the elec. parade and fireworks. My 1 year old was fast asleep by 9pm so my dh sat on the patio with my 2yr. old while my two older ones and I sat in the chairs down on the beach. Here is the view from our room

here you can see the torch in the foreground and cinderellas castle in the background in blue. This was taken from the patio

to go down the slide...I have to concur with the poster above, it was scary the first trip down the slide!
I wanted to add that having the monorail at the hotel was so wonderful because my two older ones were able to stay late when the park was open the extra hours and we didn't have to worry how they got home. They also went to Blizzard beach by themselves via the bus that stopped right out front. One night we all took the boat right at the docks of the Poly. over to the Grand Floridan for dinner. I can't say enough about how we loved our stay at the Poly!
