Just DH and I!!!! We had a wonderful time - we had booked a lagoon-view room, requesting Tahiti building (where we stayed during our wedding trip to WDW). That is exactly what we got! Fabulous view, and the room was lovely, as always. The resort had left a single red rose in a vase for us, along with a "Magic Moment" certificate commemorating our anniversary. Our room was always immaculate, and the Poly grounds were gorgeous. We loved the new pool area, although it was a little cold for a swim last weekend!!

One thing surprised me a litte - on our second night, DH was trying to take a nap before our dinner at the California Grill...and that man can sleep through an earthquake, let me tell you. Around 7 pm, a family checked in to the room next to ours, and they were unbelievably loud. There was one child with some sort of a musical instrument (a kazoo or similar) - she was running around playing it. A second child was out on the balcony screaming (and I do mean SCREAMING), "IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!" OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I finally went out on the balcony and said, "Excuse me, could you guys hold it down a little for a little while? My husband's trying to take a nap." In reply, I got a sarcastic, "EXCUUUSSSE ME!!! SOOOORRRYYYY!!!" There was no decrease in noise level. One child promptly started crying/screaming in the room, and the other one went out in the hallway and started screaming/playing instrument/running up and down the hall. THIS woke up DH. I called down to the front desk and asked if there was anything that could be done about getting our neighbors to hold it down a little...and I was told, "No. They are not required to be quiet until 10 pm."

I swear, I am not the sort of person who expects to enjoy perfect peace and quiet at WDW. Really!!! I wouldn't even want it!!! I love watching all the kids down there have a great time, and I would NOT expect utter silence at a Disney resort. However, I have to say, this family pushed me to the very outer edge of my limits. That is the first time I have ever complained about neighbors in a hotel in my life. I was very surprised about this WDW resort "rule." I can understand that they want and need to be super-duper kid-friendly, but at what point does it become a problem? I am just curious if this has ever happened to anyone else - and what did you do to deal with the situation, if anything?

By the way, this absolutely did not diminish the great stay we had!! We will stay at the Poly again - and we booked the "come back" rate for AKL in November ($233 and change per night -including taxes - for a deluxe savannah view, can't wait!!!).

Sounds like a lovely vacation! I dream of staying at the Poly!

I hear you about the noisy neighbours. We were staying at CBR a couple years ago near a quiet pool (at my request). There were two nights in a row that a VERY loud family. They were so noisy in the pool. But I just grinned and had to say to myself, 'you did request to be near the pool, it is only 8pm and they will go to bed soon, the loud noise is having-fun noise, they are on vacation too and I am on vacation.' So I just put up and shut up. It doesn't take away from your vacation if you don't let it. Sounds like you didn't let it! Good for you! Take care, S

LOL!! No, there is no way a little noise could mess up Disney for me!! I will say that this wasn't regular "there are a couple of riled-up kids in the next room at our Disney resort" noise, though - really!! I would be shocked if no one else called the front desk about this room. If I had tried to behave that way in any hotel room, my mom woulda....well, that's useless to talk about, right? We simply abbreviated our time in the room and had a drink before dinner. We DID find it amusing that the loud crowd had a "do not disturb" sign on their door when we got back from dinner, though (snicker).

At any rate, the bottom line is that we had a great stay at the gorgeous Poly!

That's where being in an All STar resort comes in handy- turbo toilet!

*did I just type that out loud?*

We had a loud family in the room next to us at ASMu last August. We checked in around 4:00 and got to our room before heading out. Next door in the connecting room was the skreechiest woman I have ever heard. She was yelling in a very unpleasant voice at her kids and we could hear just about every word. We didn't have time to deal with it just then and hoped it was a one-moment problem. When we got to our room that night everything was nice and quiet and we had just settled into bed around 11:30 when we heard their door bang open loudly and the skreechy woman enter already yelling at her children to find their pajamas and take a bath. It was awful. She just kept skreeching at them about everything. I banged on the connecting door to get their attention...nothing. I wrote a note telling them that we could hear everything they were saying and banged again when I stuck it under the door...still nothing. Finally called the front desk and asked when these folks were planning on checking out (not until after us) so we asked if we could get a new room in the morning. I was at the front desk at before 8am and we were in a new room by 8:30am. (We figure that the mother always talks to her children in that way....what a way to go through life :( )

A few years ago we were in the WL and had a group of four men in the room next to us. They came in very late (probably had been at Pleasure Island) and very drunk and loud. We had to call the front desk to ask them to get them to shut up. Luckily that was the only night we could hear them....they may have checked out the next morning as we heard them get up very early.

One time in Niagara Falls we had a loud family next door ~ that usually loud stuff. I called front desk and was told they were checking out now and that LOTS of people complained about them. S

Was that reponse from an adult or the child on the balcony? Did the adults know about your request? They must have been really loud since I heard nothing from the rooms next to us when we stayed at the Polynesian, just a little hall noise.

Most Towns, (and really, Lake Buena Vista is a town) have ordinances that say you can make all the noise you want until 10am, then you have to be quiet, and usually you have to be quiet until 7am. Maybe that is why the resort could not do anything about it. I bet that is why they told you no, I doubt there was anything they could do except move one of you.

RobinB- The response was the father, not the child. The kids were just being kids - it was just that they weren't being tempered at all by their parents, and they got out of control. WAY out of control!!!

Mrsbigglesworth - Yeah, that's what it sounded like from the front desk, and it really wasn't worth going through the hassle of moving!! While the noise really was ridiculously loud, it WAS 7 pm. Don't get me wrong, it was still rude, but it wasn't as rude as it would have been in the middle of the night. I was just surprised, as it did sound like the WDW resorts literally CAN'T do much about loud patrons before 10 pm. I can't imagine that hauling-hiney-up-and-down-the-hall-of-the-longhouse-with-a-kazoo-while-intermittently-screaming routine would go over really well with very many people.

Oh, well- like I said. we were a little surprised about the situation, but it wasn't more than an unpleasant ripple in our trip. I have NEVER had that happen at a WDW resort before (we've stayed at Poly several time, CR several times, WL twice, AKL once, BCV once, and CSR several times), and I doubt I'll have it happen again anytime soon.

Yikes! What a maroon. Maybe his kids were getting on his nerves too :p.

2vets,

I'm glad you were able to take things in stride. Having extremely obnoxious guests in an adjacent room or running up and down the hall could happen at any hotel--not just at Disney. This sounds like parents not contrlling their children or showing any consideration for others. Kids will often act up--especially on vacation. And atDisney other guests need to be a little tolerent since it is big place to bring kids. But it's up to the parents to know when to show some respect for other guests and reign in the kids.

As far as the Disney rule about not having to be quiet until 10:00 pm, I wonder if the CM didn't realize how bad the problem was. It's one thing to have a TV a little loud or to be able to hear some routine noise from a nearby room. But, kids repeatedly running up and down a hall shouting and making excessive noise should never be tolerated. It's not much different than if someone repeatedly banged on your door.

However, I do commend you on having the right attitude and not letting it spoil your vacation.

We stayed at the GF 12/31-1/4 and we were able to hear a decent amount of noise from our neighbors and the hallways, which surprised me since we had been at AKL for 4 nights before switching to the GF and didn't hear a sound while at AKL. The noise at the GF wasn't too bad, just seemed to occur whenever we decided to sleep a little later.

My mom's GF room (she was on the 1st floor and we were on the 4th floor, both were lagoon rooms in Sago Cay), however, was a different story. She was staying in the room alone, and really, how much noise can a widowed 55 year old woman make!?! Well, her neighbor repeatedly banged on the wall and door like a maniac screaming at her to keep it down. This was while she was laying on the bed watching tv. She's not hearing impared in anyway so she did not have the tv loud at all. A security officer then arrived at her door, explaining that he had a complaint about noise from her room (this was around 7 or 8pm before we went to dinner). He came in and said everything looked fine and that he didn't hear any loud noise or think the tv was too loud so he left. But when we got back from dinner around 10:30pm, the man almost immediately began banging on the wall and connecting door and screaming that the tv was waking up his kids. We ignored him since the tv was honestly not loud at all, but my mom said he continued banging for hours. You'd think all the noise he was making was doing more to keep his kids up than her tv! He also let his kids scream and run around the room wildly, yet she never complained about that.

So I think maybe some rooms just transmit sound better than others, since we were just a few floors up and though we could hear our neighbors, there was never enough noise that it was bothersome. Yet my mom's neighbor seemed to be able to hear her tv just fine, even though it was very low.

I wonder if you could have requested to have a different room? Although you may have liked to stay with the view you had. The parents should have had better sense. Fun is one thing, out of control is something else.

Gawsh, justhat... sounds like that dude was a nut! How rude to interrupt your relative's vacation to go so far as to send someone up there with a complaint when she was only laying there watching tv at a normal level! Some people...

All that I can say to this is stay at the All-Star resort when the Brazilian tour groups are there. Now we usually don't get to sleep before midnight, but these kids were making a racket at 2 in the morning! They were walking through the courtyard yelling, singing, clapping, etc. There really was nothing that you could do about it because hey, they didn't speak English, so I really couldn't yell at them and since they were on their way to their rooms, by the time you called to complain, they would be gone. So basically we just use it as a warning and made the vow to never stay in the ASMu during July when they are there!

I've been kept awake by cheerleaders and baseball teams at the All Stars twice, which between that and the turbo toilets, I won't stay there ever again.

At the GF we had neighbors who one afternoon decided to invite about a dozen of their best friends into the room for a party, it was very loud, luckily they were quiet at night and checked out the next day.

At the Poly last summer there were elephant kids running up and down the halls like banshees, my husband finally stuck his head out the door and asked them if there was a reason they were making so much noise, an then threatened to have them kicked out, tell their parents, etc. They were quiet after that.

At POFQ we were woken early one Sunday am by a guy with a wagon, he was dragging it back and forth between his room and his car over the cobblestones and making a HUGE racket. I know we weren't the only people he woke up, because a couple people were out on their balconies looking at him, and one guy yelled at him to stop with the racket already.

At the AKL I had a lady with a screachy voice on the cell phone on the balcony next to mine having a loud and lengthy discussion with a person on the other end about someones surgery and medical condition, it was pretty graphic and gross.

Otherwise we've pretty much had peace and quiet.

We had a similar issue at the Beach Club once. it was a man and his daughter. Really really late at night, like after midnight they would be in the room singing and yelling and tickling and giggling. Which is great, but they were REALLY loud. We tried to ignore it because we were glad they were having fun. BUT, we ended up having to say something to a CM that we knew at the Beach Club. he moved us. Which was great.

Anyway, I guess this happens and I'm glad people have fun but they should be considerate of other guests. Children or not. Having children is no excuse to go wild. My mama raised me better than that.

Oh well - off my soap box.

Glad you enjoyed the Poly.

Hi 2vets,

We will be at the Poly from May 9 - May 13 before moving on to AKL.

My hope is to stay in Tahiti. Did you have any problems with your request and how was your view?

Glad you had a nice trip.

This will be our first time at the Polynesian and can't wait. I was debating doing garden view so we could do concierge, but I really don't want to give up a lagoon view.

On our last trip to SOG we were sitting outside enjoying the wild life SOG has around it, Ducks, and Rabbits are found all around the place! Two boys in the next room happen to bring SLING SHOTS with them and started shooting things at the ducks & rabbits!! We were amazed and my husband went straight to there parents to put a stop to this, there reply was "There my children I will tell them what they can and can't do, there on vacation too!" We could not believe her response, we went straight to the front desk and they were gone the next day!
