We just got back tonight. Nine glorious days at OKW and wanting more. The busses were great no waiting. Had a little problem at the end of our trip with smoke from the brush fires. Any questions?
 ;) :D

Basser...

we must have been there the exact same time. We just got back yesterday after 9 days. It was our first time as well. I made mention of our stay on a previous thread regarding the fires.

We were in Bldg 64, in a two bedroom. We loved coming home the relaxed atmosphere of OKW. (BWV is tempting because of the location, but not sure I can have it outweigh the size, convenience to parking, and laid-back feeling of OKW).

We did find the CM's to be extremely nice. One evening we were shopping in the store at the Hospitality House. The CM had just rung up our purchases when my wife came by wanting to add on a Mickey pin. I jokingly said, "too late". The CM then took the same pin off of his lanyard and gave it to my wife! They then got to talking pins and he said, "I have a pin you can't buy anywhere", then opened a drawer and handed her a pin saying, "you only get these if you spend tons of money with Disney." (thinking about all my past vacations, DVC membership, and cruises, I wondered why we didn't already have one. :smooth: ) Nevertheless, my point is, this was done with no second thought on the part of the CM.:D

Disappointments: On full cleaning service day apparently the CM turned off the AC in our room. We returned home after a day at Epcot to an 85 degree room! It took over 30 minutes to get the room cooled down.

Cockroach in the kitchen on the last day (we were on the 2nd floor!)

Golf course lawnmower waking us up every morn at 6:30

Parking at 64 is not convenient.

We were in a one-bedroom in bldg. 25 on the second floor. funny you mentioned the pin the clerk in the store gave me one out of the drawer too. No bugs seen in our room. I must say that the CM's seemed to go out of their way to makes us feel at home.

That's not a cockroach....it's a Palmetto bug.

No, no, no, don't fall for that Souther Palmetto bug garbage. They think that they can make them seem less disgusting by calling them Palmetto bugs. The wife screams just as loud, the kid crys just as hard and they make that same crackling squishy noise when you step on them....they are roaches.

Just out of curiosity......has the smoke thinned the crowds at the parks out any?

Enjoyed your bug description Richyams!

We just got back from six days at OKW also. This was our first time staying at OKW. We were in building 49 in room 4912. They messed up our towel exchange day (day 5 instead of day 4). The jacuzzi dripped water so we called it in to maintenance, but they didn't respond while we were there. The golf maintenance carts in the early morning kept waking up my wife in the early morning, but I slept right through them. Did we let all this get us down? Heck no! We had fun despite these minor inconveniences. Thank goodness I didn't see any "palmetto bugs" in our room.

We particularly enjoyed the laid back setting of OKW. It was mostly quiet around our building most of the time. Our first floor patio overlooked a serene lake (low on water though) and a golf tee. It was within walking distance to one of the quiet pools and snack bar. The household staff was very responsive to our request for an extra crib and two high chairs (we have twin 16 month old girls). Although my wife an I did not use the bus, the Au Pair we brought with us used the bus system and she found it very nice and the drivers friendly.

The weather was hot. The smoke from the brush fire was pretty bad at the end of the week. On the hot days, we kept ourselves watered and took in many of the indoor activities or activities in the shade during the heat of the day.

All-in-all we had a great time. I can't wait to do it again. We are planning on the beginning of December in 2002 for our next trip.
