Just back from OKW... (long)

You are so right when you wrote of how convenient OKW is for folks who are physically challenged. We took my mom for years when she was beginning to have difficulty walking and then when we needed her to be in a transport chair.

Those were some good trips. Not without significant challenges, but good nonetheless.

And the cast members were always wonderful.

GREAT pictures! Looks like SSR is coming along nicely! I'll have to be sure we take the ferry in January to see it from the water.

I do hope they fence off the water as they did at Boardwalk as they had some near misses with kids being attracted to the open water.

thanks poohj80

Fantastic pics, Colleen. I'm amazed at how far SSR has come just since we were there in late October.

Great report Colleen
OKW is a great resort for anyone. But I agree it is a haven for the handicapped. We have tried most of the DVC resorts but none are as friendly for the handicapped as OKW. We will be at OKW in January for 6 nights in a 2 BR(with my ECV).

I have to agree Kybill! I needed to use an ECV on our trip in August and may still need one in January. OKW bent over backwards to get me an accessible room when we arrived. It was so easy! I rented the ECV from Care after contacting OKW the week before. They made sure I got an elevator building.

Wow! Those were worth waiting for. They are much further along than I expected. The coloring reminds me very much of BWV.

What a beautiful day you had, too. The blue of the sky is just perfect.

The weather the week of Thanksgiving was truly beautiful. Surreal, actually. We were done with Fall in Indiana and had sneaked into winter, and everything had gotten gray. I didn't realize how colorless life was 'til I hit Florida -- what a contrast! Remember the scene in "Wizard of Oz" where Dorothy wakes up in technicolor Oz after black-and-white Kansas? That's what it was like. Because there was low humidity, everything was so clear. It was wonderful. For me, just being around all those flowers and colors is very healing. I feel kinda ache-y now that I am back to winter!

What I wanted to share with you all that is not obvious from the pics is HOW CLOSE Saratoga is to Downtown Disney. If the area was a clock face, the buildings I photographed would be at 8 or 9. Rainforest Cafe's back door would be around 11 or 12, and the rest of DD from 1 or 2 on. It's REALLY close. I think that will make Saratoga a fun place to stay, albeit a bit noisy at night.

It makes it easier to come home when I know I have a trip report to share with friends. I couldn't WAIT to share the pics with folks I knew would love them...

Colleen,
Thanks for sharing your report and the fantastic SS pics with all of us NUTS
You really lucked out with the splendid weather ! I know what you mean about everything being grey and dead---FL can be really uplifting in off-season !

Hi all!

Colleen I saw you mention a refill mug, from what I saw in my brief search last night the refill mugs were listed as $4.95 plus a refill price is that true or does OKC have mugs like the other resorts, I think I paid $11.00 or something last Dec at AKL.

Thanks!!!

The current offer was $11 (or $12?) for the mug and then refills were free. Turtle Pond pool was closest to us this this trip, and we swam there almost every day. We easily saved money, as well as shared germs -- we're all sick now! :) The mug is decorated with a Christmas theme, and the lady at the snack bar said they'd accept it for refill until around New Year.

I am starting to have quite a mug collection!

Thanks Colleen!!! My Mom will be thrilled she just loves her mug collection :-)
