Just Back from OKW ~ Great Time, but WHY do people still reserve chairs!!!

I know this is not a popular concept, but truly what is the reasoning behind thinking a few possesions holds a lounge chair that you are not sitting in.

Why is a pool lounge chair any different from say a spot to watch a parade, next time you want a certain spot to view Spectromagic, leave one of your shoes on that spot and see how that works out.

Or do you have a favorite place to sit at Cape May Cafe, be sure to go early and put your sunglasses on that chair.

I mean seriously folks if you ain't in the chair, it ain't yours.

The only saving of a chair is when you are using the chair, and get up for a few minutes to use the restroom or a quick in and out of the pool to get wet. Then you leave all your belongings on said chair and you are gone only minutes.

Anything more than that is totally unreasonable.

I agree Sammie. It's simple and if everyone followed it there would not be a chair shortage. Enjoy it and move on.

The sad part is that not everyone will follow the same rule so the sentiment is moot and people will continue to save chairs.
For the record, I do not recognize a shoe, flop, or magazine as a placeholder. I give towels 30 minutes and then I ask a lifeguard for assistance.

Well we are a family of 4 who bring a LOT of stuff down into the pool arrea......Where would you suggest I place it all whilst Iam taking a spin around the lazy river?...or am I misunderstanding you?....Do you really think noone should leave their belongings on a bed whislt they are aCTUALLY in the pool?...Would you REALLY move all my stuff after 30 mins of me being in the pool??...Because I call what we do USING the bed...we swim we sunbathe..we swim..we sunbathe..(well we shadebathe)..We don't go to our room or to the parks..we are IN the pool area all day..USING the beds...we just aren't glued to them every single minute!

I would do as CarolAnnC suggested, let the lifeguard deal with it after 30 minutes.

Ok...thats fine!...Iam pretty sure the lifeguard wouldn't move all my stuff as it would be obvious i was around...If it was one unused towel maybe they would but not all my belongings..

Iam glad you would get a lifeguard to deal with it though...if you start picking up peoples stuff yourself you could open yourself up to accusations.

Just curious...would you still want my stuff moved if i was gone for 30 mins even if you had your own bed?....Would you time how long people are gone from their beds and tell a lifeguard at 30 mins?..Do you think people should have a bed and go into the pool for 40 mins? or are you just talking about towels...not bags and stuff.

It sounds like you bring a lot more stuff than we do, so you probably do need a chair. I pack a tote with sunblock, some pool toys for our youngest and not much else. They have towels at the pool, so I don't pack them, and as for clothes, we just go back to our room to change.

On our last Disney cruise I went to a hammock on Castaway Cay and there was a sandal on it. I thought that was odd. No one was around so I sat in the hammock for probably an hour. Then a woman marched over to me yelling and screaming that she reserved it for her family and I was a real "jerk" for taking the hammock and I was to get out immediately. I was embarrassed because I did not realize a single sandal was a claim to the hammock for the day. I moved. She put the sandal back and left! 20 minutes later and there was still no one in the hammock to enjoy the beautiful day because it was reserved for someone who probably never used it.

My view of humanity was a bit damaged that day.

Your story reminds me of a day I went at GF counter service (Gasparilla, I think it is called). We are a family of 5. We went through the line, got our breakfast, paid & then went to get a table to sit down & eat. There weren't any available. There was a table that could fit us w/one woman sitting there drinking coffee. I nicely asked her if she would mind if we joined her & she said we couldn't because she was waiting for her family. Other people heard us & made room at their tables for us, but we had to split up. THANK YOU to all the very nice people who shared their tables w/us. Anyway, we ate our breakfast & NO ONE came to that woman's table. Other people in line after us also asked to sit there, but she wouldn't let them. Finally, another woman asked her again but this time loudly & the woman holding the table started yelling that she couldn't believe how rude everyone was to keep asking her to sit there when she was saving it for her family. It was a crazy scene! I really wanted to tell that woman that she was the ONLY one being RUDE, but I decided that seeing we were done eating, to just leave w/my family & enjoy the day.

My view of humanity was a bit damaged that day too. But thank goodness other people were kind enough to share their tables w/us.

Which is why, BLTtinkerbell, most restaurants won't seat you until your entire party is there, and I quite understand it! Had same scenario at Office Depot, went in for school supplies and near the register was a cart full of things, with a woman who kept walking back and forth adding things to it. I was in line roughly 20 minutes. Several people were waited on and I was due to be next. All of a sudden, here comes the owner of the cart with the additional armfull of stuff she was shopping for just as the salesman called next, she nudged herslef right in front of me and pushed her cart right forward!

What a concept, put your cart in line while you shop to hold your place in line! Several people spoke up, and said that I was next but the salesman clearly didn't want to get involved, so I simply said, she must be in such a hurry, she's forgotten her manners and she just glared but went right on!

In your situation, her family wasn't ready for breakfast, so a large table should not have been given to her until they were all there. Some people can be so inconsiderate.

I stated I would follow CarolAnnC's suggestion and let it go at that.

If I have my own chair I could care less what someone else is doing. If the pool is packed and there are no chairs available for use and it is obvious someone is just saving a chair I will contact the lifeguard.

I will say, that if we are spending time at the pool and there are loungers next to us that are "saved" and have not been in use, I will volunteer this information to the lifeguard when they are assisting others to find a seat. I have also done this on DCL at quiet cove. Most people will not leave anything of value to chairsave.

It is not hard to tell the difference between a saved chair and one that is in use.
