Just Back from OKW ~ Great Time, but WHY do people still reserve chairs!!!

I may not have been clear, there are usually ONE sandal on a chair and ONE sandal on another chair, ONE book on another chair, ONE hat on another chair...

Sorry, but it is not about moving personal items. People are just leaving an item on a row of chairs to save them.

On our last Disney cruise I went to a hammock on Castaway Cay and there was a sandal on it. I thought that was odd. No one was around so I sat in the hammock for probably an hour. Then a woman marched over to me yelling and screaming that she reserved it for her family and I was a real "jerk" for taking the hammock and I was to get out immediately. I was embarrassed because I did not realize a single sandal was a claim to the hammock for the day. I moved. She put the sandal back and left! 20 minutes later and there was still no one in the hammock to enjoy the beautiful day because it was reserved for someone who probably never used it.

My view of humanity was a bit damaged that day.

When we stayed at Kidani last month, I'm happy to report that every day we were by pool, I saw a cast member periodically walk around, remove towels from chairs, & deposit them in the towel bin. Many of the towels were clean, dry, folded ones that hadn't even been used yet. (These were chairs that had NOTHING else on them...just the towels).

I remember paying particular attention to this because the pool area there isn't even crowded....half of the chairs were empty each day we were there. (I'm sure that will change once the entire resort is open).

I save my chair when in the water but use my chair when out. I do not time myself in the water but you can tell we are "there" though. We also don't save chairs for the kids. They don't need them like we old folks do.

I hate to say this but I might be the one that may eat my own words at some point. I have removed towels on a couple of occasions at OKW and on the Disney cruises we have taken. Having saif that if I was in the pool or playing with my grandkids who we take a lot and came back after 30 min. or so and found my stuff moved I might be upset and demand it back. Reading all the posts I can see both sides and both sides make good points...smjj

I won't move "stuff"...ie-beach bag, sandals etc. But if there is a chair and all that is on it is a towel, then I will move that.

I just chalk it up to the fact that there are always going to be people who think they are more special and entitled than the rest of us who will think it's acceptable to put an old pair of sandals on a lounge chair near the pool and then go to a park for 3 hours knowing that when they get back to the pool, "their" chair will be there for them.

I would NOT have moved. You should have asked her to show you the receipt that she got when she reserved it.

I know this is not a popular concept, but truly what is the reasoning behind thinking a few possesions holds a lounge chair that you are not sitting in.

Why is a pool lounge chair any different from say a spot to watch a parade, next time you want a certain spot to view Spectromagic, leave one of your shoes on that spot and see how that works out.

Or do you have a favorite place to sit at Cape May Cafe, be sure to go early and put your sunglasses on that chair.

I mean seriously folks if you ain't in the chair, it ain't yours.

The only saving of a chair is when you are using the chair, and get up for a few minutes to use the restroom or a quick in and out of the pool to get wet. Then you leave all your belongings on said chair and you are gone only minutes.

Anything more than that is totally unreasonable.

You hike from your villa wearing a tee shirt and sandals...carrying a small bag with sunscreen and a book. What are you supposed to do with them while you're in the water?

While we're on this subject...I had a towel-moving experience at OKW just last week. I deposited one towel and one tee shirt on one lounge chair, and slid by sandals and bag underneath. I went into the pool for about 20 minutes. I came back to find all my stuff moved to the next chair over. Evidently, two young ladies wanted two chairs together and decided, well, let's just move this set of stuff one chair over.

Call me touchy, but I didn't appreciate someone else taking liberties with my personal belongings -- even if it was just sandals, a bag, a tee shirt and a towel. 'Specially since I wasn't gone long.

What do you suggest as an alternative?

We have whole pool days at BCV...We find a couple of sunbeds in the shade and Chill out for the whole day....I get into the pool ...the lazy river..go refill the mugs...go the toilet and lie on my sunbed reading a book and relaxing.
Iam mostly on the bed as I can't swim...LOL..but sometimes I float round the lazy river..for up to an hour.
I leave my shoes...clothes...bag with all my Key cards in..books...suncream...kids buckets..all on the beds.,...What should I do with them while I go in the pool?

I would be FURIOUS if someone touched all my stuff. and I would NEVER touch anyone elses stuff either.
Yes I think its wrong if people reserve sunbeds and go off into the parks...but even if I knew for a fact someone was doing that I personally would not touch their belongings.

I guess we will just have to agree to diagree, as I think it is rude to save a chair one is not using.

When we go to the pool I simply leave all my things bagged and place the bag somewhere in the pool area but not on a chair.

When I am actually ready to use the chair I go look for one, just as I would at any other place when I need to sit down. I don't reserve or save something I am not using.

If chairs are left unattended, after a half hour CM's will remove the items so you may then use the chairs.

The resort pools are sometimes without any available chairs at all, and this policy allows others to enjoy a chair and relax, rather than having to leave and letting the chair sit empty.

If you desire seating, feel free to check with the CM's. They are pretty good at keeping up with this...

when we go smimming we always leave our stuff at a chair in the back that will most likely never get used anyway... that includes shirts, hats, bags, etc however most of the time we have people with us who use the chairs the entire time.

ONE sandal on a Hammock sorry that would be on the floor or in the trash. If a person started yelling I would not open my eyes or mouth that would take to much energy.... there are other ways to express feelings towards selfish people.

I would never move a persons stuff ie bag, shirts etc.... One sandal a book a towel.... these are obvious signs no one is using whatever it may be...

Likewise...we usually go as a group and put all our towels, glasses, and "stuff" on one chair. Of course, we are rarely there at a time when there is a high demand for chairs anyway...I guess I always thought it would be tacky to just dump a bunch of stuff on the ground/floor, which is why we use the chair, but now I find that putting it on a chair is tacky instead...confusing! We rarely actually sit on the chair, unless we use it for sitting on while we dry our feet with a towel or something...more of a "swim and run" approach...

Actually, I had an encounter with a woman about that at DL. She'd left a towel in "her" space. I stood there and when she finally showed up, she really gave me grief and told me I should have gotten there earlier if I wanted a prime spot. I told her I was only there for the pre-parade, and she could have her spot back before the parade. After the pre-parade (DS's band), I turned to her with a big smile and said "Thanks for being so cooperative" as I left. I think you could see the steam shooting out of her ears.

Well we are a family of 4 who bring a LOT of stuff down into the pool arrea......Where would you suggest I place it all whilst Iam taking a spin around the lazy river?...or am I misunderstanding you?....Do you really think noone should leave their belongings on a bed whislt they are aCTUALLY in the pool?...Would you REALLY move all my stuff after 30 mins of me being in the pool??...Because I call what we do USING the bed...we swim we sunbathe..we swim..we sunbathe..(well we shadebathe)..We don't go to our room or to the parks..we are IN the pool area all day..USING the beds...we just aren't glued to them every single minute!

Exactly...dumping your stuff on the floor would be tacky..rude and dangerous..Iam amazed anyone would consider this,,...I mean..seriously can you imagine me dumping my bag..clothesx4..shoesx4..buckets...spades...towels..suncream..mugsx4..etc on the FLOOR by the pool???
