Just thought I would share some info from our recent trip. DH and I did a quick 2 day trip just the 2 of us (kids stayed with Grandma and Grandpa). DH loves Christmas lights and we had never been to DLR during Christmas.
Hotel - Embassy Suites Anaheim South - great hotel. The price was great, the room was big and clean, and the shuttle was great. Would stay here again. Like it better than both Hojo and Candy Cane Inn. Price is much better, more room, and love the free breakfast in the morning. This will be our go to hotel when we can't afford to stay on site.
Crowds - CRAZY!! At times, both parks were fine, but I could not believe the crowds when the Christmas parade was done. It was insane. You can't even move. There is no personal space and lots of people pushing. Not my kind of fun. I could not believe the line to Pirates. It went almost all the way to Haunted Mansion, then turned back around and over the bridge, then back down. We took the afternoon off yesterday and saw "Hunger Games" at the AMC theater in DD, which was great alternative to going back the the hotel for an afternoon nap. It was DH and I, so no naps needed for us. Don't get me wrong. We still had a great time, but be prepared for people EVERYWHERE! In shops, lines for food, everywhere!
Holiday Tour - WONDERFUL! I really loved the tour. It was kinda hard to stay together at times because of the crowds, but it was great. We went on Jingle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and It's a Small World. All 3 had lines over an hour that we just bumped right in. Totally saved us a lot of time. The seats for the parade were the best, and we loved the hot chocolate, gingerbread man, and pin. If you are looking for a fun way to spend the afternoon, I would highly recommend it. Just a note though, it is a lot of walking and no real down time, so if you are a slow mover or tire easily, you need to take that into consideration.
Food - I can't talk much about food as I have a lot of food allergies and don't eat much during a vacation. I ended up having a reaction to the food at Jolly Holiday. I'm not sure what it was, but I had the turkey sandwich for lunch and am thinking they may have fried their potato chips in either sesame or sunflower oil (allergic to both) - didn't think of asking so totally not their fault, and about an hour later was not feeling well at all. It was the same day as our tour, so I was a little afraid I would have to cancel, but I ended up being ok to make it. Didn't eat the rest of the day until we got back to the hotel around 8pm at the hotel restaurant. Embassy Suites restaurant was not the best, service was slow, but at least I didn't have a reaction. The next day DH had dinner at the French Market and there were no tables. Food was good, but no room. So, if you go during this busy time of the year, have someone save you a table while the other person gets the food. Lesson learned.
Tree lighting and snow - At 7:30pm they light the castle, tree, and snow. Really amazing. Made me teary eyed. Try not to miss it. Stand in the middle of Main Street to see the view of the tree and castle.
WOC Holiday - WONDERFUL! Loved the different show from the regular one. If you are not a Frozen fan or haven't seen Frozen, you should see it first before you see the show. Loved the new lights they have added to the roller coaster and Mickey wheel. The sudsy snowflakes were sooo cool. The highlight of our trip!
Fireworks - fireworks were canceled Monday, and we missed them the second day we were there because we had WOC at 9pm. Will have to see them next time. Didn't see F! Have seen it before and don't want to have to spend hours saving good seats.
DD - was surprised there weren't too many decorations there (other than the Olaf skating rink). Still nice, but just surprised there wasn't more.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Again, it was just a short 2 day trip, so we didn't get to everything, but got to see the beautiful lights!
