Just back from inaugural Norwegian Fjords cruise 6/6/15

Yes, that's about the time we got there, it was awful!! They could learn a thing or two from Disney about managing queues ;)

I think we were particularly unlucky in a way as it seemed that Bergen had 6 cruise ships in town on our day! I read something about this being the highest number of passengers ever in Bergen...

It did feel very crowded sometimes :crowded: Particularly in Mt Floien as we said, and Bryggen. But on the other hand we were VERY lucky with the weather :cool1:

Yes, for rainiest city in Europe we had a lot of sunshine! :sunny:

And the view from Mt Floyen with all the ships was quite special!

I am curious about those who had difficulty in CPH. We didn't but we are from DC and departed from Dulles so perhaps we have low expectations- travel is always chaotic in DC.

We did all the ticketed meet and greets. All were on Friday for us. I got our tickets around 1:30. Marvel, princesses, and Anna, Elsa, and Olaf.

Sunmore was amazing. They had to drag me back to the bus, and I went with my 3 year old son. Worth every penny. Disney pulled out all the stops. The museum would have been fun on its own but it was closed to the public that day. The Alosund people were so excited to host us and so welcoming. They love Frozen as much as we do.

My favorite thing about that excursion was sharing it with locals. They seemed to outnumber us and really made the excursion especially memorable.

Sorry if I've missed it but can you guys advise when the first seating breakfast was on debarkation day? I'm assuming around 7:00am.

Thanks,
Heather

Yes, the line for taxis on debarked morning was long, BUT there were plenty of taxis and it moved along. We exited the ship around 9:15 and were in a taxi before 10:00...even with rude fellow passengers who felt it was okay to cut in line! ;-)

We, too, hiked to Pulpit Rock. While I agree with others that it was a long hike, it was doable with the proper shoes (sneakers or hiking boots), layers of clothing and a moderate fitness level. We live in Florida and very rarely have the opportunity to mountain hike, but we all made it up and back and thought it was a trip highlight! The view is spectacular. :-)

All breakfast times, they varied depending on your assigned restaurant (i.e. the same restaurant as the last evening):

AP: 7:00am and 8:15
Carioca's and Lumiere's: 7:15am and 8:30am

Express Walk off was to meet at 7:30am at the forward elevator lobby on deck 3 with all their luggage. I think they announced express walk off slightly after 7:30am.

Awesome thanks ~ just what I needed :)

How do you book the meet and greets and how expensive are they ?

Thanks for all the great info! It's making me even more excited for our Norway / Iceland cruise. I'm curious about how everyone dressed at dinner time. When we were in Alaska it seemed as if a lot of people dressed down a bit - lots of jeans. I'm actually hoping that is the case on our cruise, but would love to know what you experienced. Between an 11 night cruise to a cold weather climate and 5 extra days pre/post cruise, there is only so much room in the suitcase! The fancy stuff is staying home for this cruise, I'm afraid. I'm trading in my heels for hiking boots! We'll try to clean it up a bit for dinner, but mostly we will be wearing what we had on during the day. We may just skip formal night and try Cabanas that night. I've actually always wanted to try it for dinner anyway. Perfect chance!

I found that you saw all kinds of dress at dinner. I would say that there were a lot of jeans, but often with a collared shirt for men and a nicer top for women. Some ladies seemed to have a new dress every night. My sister and I either wore jeans or jeans skirts with ballerina flats, a nicer top and a cardigan for dinner and felt not out of place. We had dresses with us for formal night, but not ball gowns. But there were people in Disney sweatshirts as well as people in suits and fancy cocktail dresses. Quite a few adult ladies dressed up as Elsa for formal night and/or Frozen night. Some more like a real costume, some more in the "Disneybounding" style where you use the same colors that resemble the character costume. Since the dress code that Disney publishes is so easy now (just no tank top and no swim wear I think), I would really not worry about bringing too many dinner clothes.

We had dinner at Cabanas the evening that we sailed away from Geiranger. We are not keen on lobster and it was Captain's Gala menu night. We got there at 6:45pm (they opened at 6:30pm) and asked for a window table and had the most amazing view sailing through the fjords! I was amazed that there were not more people! I had a fantastic steak there, so it was great food wise, too.

Anyone did Sunmoore museum's special celebration excursion with Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff?

We are second dinning seating. Since breakfast on last day is scheduled for 08:30am, is 09:30am airport private transfer pickup time doable?

We leave today to Iceland for our precruise stopover. I really appreciate everyone's input. It has help our family tremendously.

Thanks.

We did Sunmore with Anna and Elsa. My main complaint would be we needed more time there and that we wasted nearly 40 minutes standing in line for Anna and Elsa and Kristoff. The DCL guy kept saying we didn't need to wait, they'd be there an hour, but I wasn't risking it, not after the amount of money we sent to get there! There were TONS of local volunteers in Norwegian dress, and the activities in Sunmore were all about Norwegian culture which was fantastic. My daughter loved making Lefse. They really pulled out all the stops. Just wish we had time to do more of the activities and that there was a better queue system for the characters. They really should assign numbers or times or something to make it easier. Also, it was very hard to see them as they entered. They come down a little hill, and the staff kept asking everyone to move back so we ended up a bit of the ways back and couldn't really see. I also think for the price, there should have been more with the characters other than just a photo op.

I should also add, the freezing the night away party was awesome. We were up top 30 minutes prior and right in front. They had a dedicated kids' section front and center too, which was really nice! Dd had a great view there.

Was this buffet style?

Dinner at Cabanas is not buffet style, it's table service.

No charge for the ticketed meet and greets but you need to visit Guest Services to get the tickets. they use tickets to keep the crowds down.

Good! I hope that will be the case in 2016 (buffet)!

We were on this cruise too. Had a fantastic time. I am writing a trip report.

We did DCL transfers from the airport to the Tivoli Hotel. DCL representatives were all over baggage claim.
In Bergen, we did the funicular on our own around 2:00 and was less crowded. Don't let the smaller lines outside fool you, there is a very long queue inside. We took a Bergen highlights tour to Grieg's house and Fantoff Stave Church. We were supposed to get a tour of the Henseatic museum, but the tour fell apart as soon as we hit the Bryggen. I was disappointed in the tour. The Bryggen area seemed very crowded. We ate lunch at the fish market and liked it very much.
We didn't have any trouble at the CPH airport checking in for SAS or checking our bags. We left on Tuesday morning, so maybe not so busy.
