This was so great to read. I go August 31 - September 7 to the sugar loaf concierge. I am one of those unwashed masses (though even I plan to wash, dress and definately to be polite in the lounge) who never had heard of concierge and found it offered with the FTP for only $70 a night more than a regular room, and am excited to have the opportunity to experience the service. I struggled mightily at the time with the choice, as polynesian lagoon view concierge was offered for only slightly more, YC Concierge, BW Concierge were even offered for less. And then was hearing all the negatives about GF Concierge. I think from reading here, and good comments and bad about various concierge services, that for the most part it must be a luck of the draw as to who works there and how they act, and as well, how you act would effect even the most giving of cast members. Walking off with a couple of bottles of wine and plates and plates filled with sweets to your room to 'get your money's worth' as I have heard some seeing happen will sour anyone toward you no matter what mood they wish to have (and perhaps sour a smile toward others for some cast memebers). My GF and I have no idea what to expect, but we do wish to enjoy the food and amenities as we have gone to disney often enough that enjoying the hotel some will be nice, but we have booked one meal a day (we are not big eaters especially) thinking as some said making meals out of offterings is going far and in the end it sounds to be not about the meals but the service. Otherwise why ever dine at a fine restaurant, McDonalds will fill you just as much. Another note, the cast memebers who have helped with the reservations thus far have been spectacular. Twice I have spoken for over 20 minutes getting questions asked, and dining reservations done and they were not only friendly but seemed to be as excited as I was about things (especially suggesting places for giving a ring, she and I have been together for 12 years and it really seems the perfect time). My first call to them I told them that I had gotten resservations for fireworks night at california grill but that they could not guarentee a window seat and he told me that 'you have one now'. And I could literally hear the smile in his voice. One thing that we may do is ask for an upgrade for a price to the RPC when we arrive. It was offered for one day at an additional $70 a night to the FTP ($140 over a regular room, $70 more than SL) and by the time I asked my GF it was sold out, and would cost $120 a night, a bit steep. If when we arrive they still have it for the $70 or less we will take it, and still have the advantage of the preplanning done already. Well, this is a long post, but the long and short of it is that I appreciate the reassuring comments here, and if the first impressions of how much trouble the cast members have gone to for me before even arriving are any indication it will be special.
