Just got back on Saturday night from a 6 night stay at our home resort of the BWV - one bedroom. First I'll give you the bad, then the good :)

Room was 3135 - it was the second to last room of the longest hallways! It was a standard view, overlooking the pond between the building and the parking lot. Toward the right was the waterway to MGM and a view of TOT. It was a very nice view, alittle noisy in the mid morning (when the balcony door was open) as all the maintenance trucks use the path along the back of the building which was just to the right of our balcony. Good thing about the location was that is was such a short walk to the car in the parking lot, and just around the corner from the quiet pool.

Okay - problems with the room. First it wasn't ready til 4:00! A first for us, it's usually ready before 12:30 p.m. no biggy, we had no problems keeping busy.
While it was in good shape, there were three things that really bugged me - 1) mold/mildew on the grout in the tiled shower stall.
2) no chairs on the balcony (I like to spend my morning coffee time there)
3) One bathroom door lock was broken.

So, I called housekeeping and reported all - politely, asking them to take care of it today (first day there - Sunday, Feb 19th). Maintenance came right away and fixed the lock on the bathroom door. No one ever showed up from housekeeping and the mildew was freakin me out (not alot of it, but more than I'd ever stand for at home - which is none) Monday morning I called again, again politely, - no one showed up - no chairs, still mildew. Monday afternoon I spoke to the manager in the lobby, he was extremely polite and took time to hear me out, assured me everything would be taken care of immediately, I was impressed with his personal attention and his professional polite manner. Meanwhile, I was not letting any of this in any way intrude on my awesome vacation - but it needed to be addressed - therefore, address it I did.

Tuesday comes and goes, no one came, still no chairs, and still mold/mildew on the tiles - which I tried twice to clean off myself using the sponge and kitchen soap - to no avail. I figured "okay, no one is coming, let it go and don't look at the mildew while showering - yuk - but whatever, vacation is awesome, forget about the mildew/mold". I used a kitchen chair on the balcony. My family never said a word - maybe I was the only one it bothered?
Okay, Wednesday morning is trash and towel service day. 8:40 a.m. there's a knock at the door. My teens were still sleeping in the sofa bed, hubby still sleeping too. I answered and told the housekeeper that she couldn't come in now as family was still sleeping. She proceeds to shove a stack of towels, two rolls of toilet paper and a box of tissues in my arms - meanwhile I've got a cup of coffee in my hand. I asked her "what about the trash - they're all full?" She tells me to wrap it all up and leave it in the hallway - she'll get it later! Now I'm pissed! My dues pay for a proper trash and towel service - no one has paid attention to my very polite requests for chairs and mildew removal and now they're shoving the stuff in my arms and telling me to empty the garbage myself - I think not.

I sat down while family was still sleeping and took to the pen. I wrote the manager a short note explaining my dismay and the lack of care received, even after asking him personally & politely to have chairs delivered and the mildew removed - which would only take 30 seconds if someone came in with the darn tilex!

I explained in my note that I fully intended to notify DVC management corporate headquarters. In less than an hour the chairs were in my room, a message of apology was on my machine, the grout was mold free, the manager had credited a large lunch charge off my account, and housekeeping promised full cleaning for the next 3 days! Way more than I expected. I really just wanted a couple of chairs, a few sprays of tilex and a proper trash and towel cleaning. I was very happy with the way management responded, however, not happy that it took a written letter and many requests to get them to respond. Maybe my comment about a cleaner shower and better service at the Comfort Inn we stayed at on the way down had something to do with it? Definitely a manager that wanted to keep his good reputation had something to do with it.

Anyway, none of this really intruded on my time there - it sounds like alot of inconvenience, but a couple of phone calls, a visit to the manager on my way through the lobby, and a note over a few days takes no time at all. I am not the type to keep quiet - that would have put a damper on my vacation.

On to the good. Kids LOVED being at the Boardwalk again - so did DH and I - it's such an awesome place to be. They had friends on property vacationing with their own families, and they met some teenagers also DVC members staying at the Boardwalk. At almost 17 they were able to go out and about without our constant supervision, allowing them to really take full advantage of whatever they wanted to do in the parks and allowing my hubby and I to have our "own" vacation. All the parks were pretty crowded, but we took the time we needed to do what we wanted to the most, and used the EMH nights, which makes a huge difference in crowd levels (lower), and let us really do the parks the way we hoped to.

We ate, again, at Le Cellier - best restaurant in our opinion. I saw the Beauty & the Beast stage show from beginning to end - a first for me and LOVED IT. We did Jellyrolls for the first time (Scotty & Jason) and will do it every time we are there from now on, it was soooo much fun. We ate at the Liberty Tree Tavern in MK on our first night - also a first, my DH & kids thought it was an outstanding meal - and outstanding service. We caught Spectromagic right after dinner, followed by the Wishes fireworks - awesome night. The guys rented a Whaler boat out of WL marina, while DD and I layed on the lounges on the white sand beach, sipping tropical drinks - yum!

DD and I saw La Nouba (2nd time for her - 3rd for me over 10 years). It is an awesome show - DD bought the soundtrack cd. We shopped at Downtown Disney, as we do every trip. I really controlled myself this year as I have my eye on a piece of art from Wyland Galleries....
We strolled the BWV on nights that we were not in the parks late and everytime we take that stroll it reminds us why we love it there so much. The atmosphere is so relaxing and fun, it's everything we want in a vacation time share. NO regrets for buying in at BW in 2000. As a matter of fact addonitis has got us again! Thanks for reading - hope you all enjoy your future vacations....

Sounds like you handled the problems very well. Glad you had a great trip! (We love BWV, too.)

Thanks for the report - good idea about the note to the manager. If we ever have a problem that isn't corrected with a phone call, I'll keep it in mind.

Apparently, the pen is mightier than the phone and the sword, LOL.

Glad you had a good time.

Best wishes -

I really think it pays to address your issues while there. It is not good to wait until you get home then write letters and make calls. You did good. I am glad you did not let some minor issues ruin your trip. Thanks for the report.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the report, and thanks for being, shall we say, firm but polite. You let them know your displeasure and wish to have the problem resolved without taking it to a higher level. I like that. The Comfor Inn comment was probably the trick.

I also have a question, we are new to DVC, but have stayed at BWV for cash in the past. I read posts where there is not any pots or pans in the kitchens. They were there when we were at BWV in 04, but are they in all? we go home to SSR in late June.

Again, great to hear you had a good time and did not let a little mildew (eeeeewwww) get in your way.

Great report! We also got a free meal using the firm but polite approach when a problem arose. ;) And I don't think there's anything wrong with asking a CM to please come back a little later when everyone's awake. If you can't sleep in a little on vacation, then when can you?

Thanks for the great report! I'm glad you had a wonderful vacation.

I know what you mean about Wyland Galleries - Love that place!! I have been overcome by temptation there many times, I have beautiful art on my walls to show it. We arrive in 18 days and I'm sure another purchase is in my future, our salesguy has already called to see when we are arriving (that's how you know you've been there a few times). :worship:

Well said.

If everyone would address the issues while there it should help to stop things from becoming bigger issues. It isn't going to help to fume about it while there and then write a complaint from home. Good job DeeCee735 and glad to hear you had such a good trip even with the problems

Pots and pans are standard equipment in the 1 bedroom and larger units for all of the DVC resorts. There have never been pots and pans in the studios, though - perhaps the posts you recall were talking about the studios.

Excellent report on what must have been a wonderful trip. You escalated your complaints in exactly the right way: at the time things bothered you, moving up a notch at a time rather than going off like a skyrocket, never giving up. That kind of behavior is fair to the staff and helps all of us owners keep the standards where they should be.

Excellent report, and THANKS for taking care of problems while you were there. I believe that benefits everyone. :)
