We were at Hard Rock Hotel for 2 nights, then Dolphin for 3, Wonder cruise, then back to Dolphin.
I first have to say that Hard Rock is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The beds are the best, the pool is awesome, and front-of-the-line is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
Anyway, forgive my rambling. Back to the Dolphin. It is a beautiful hotel. We got an upgrade both before and after the cruise with our starwood card. We had just reserved a standard room, and got a balcony with view of the boardwalk and boat dock. We got the refillable mugs and used them often (no barcodes, by the way). I really liked the theming here. The big downside for us was the beds. After all, all you are in your room for is to sleep. They were awful. Motel 6's have to be better.
All in all, I probably won't stay here again, because there are so many other resorts I haven't tried yet. Definately not before they do an overhaul on the beds.
Just a tip, though. Try to get the west wing. It seems to be closest to everything. On the day after the cruise we requested 1st floor (per a suggestion on this boards). We had room 1186 and loved the location. Just a few yards from both Tubbie's and the pool.
Oh, one annoyance on the pool. They closed it twice because it "looked like rain was coming". One of the times, it didn't rain. No lighting, just dark clouds. What was with that?

Thanks for the report...just to let you know...they are currently replacing all of the old beds with Westin Heavenly Beds...hope this helps...

Thanks for the report on the Dolphin. I thought I was in the minority requesting west wing, first floor..you were just a first rooms down from where we stayed...it's an awesome location, close to everything! We, too, will look forward to the Heavenly beds in the future.

I think all the WDW resort pools close when there is a threat of a thunderstorm.

Happened to us at Coronado Springs in August of '99. The sky was almost black but it never rained! Not one single drop.

Took them a few hours to open the pool back up!

After the lifeguards told everyone to get out of the water and that they were closing the pool, everyone went over to the quiet pools that are sprinkled around the resort.

After awhile, they figured out what everyone was doing, and chased us out of there too!

We just got back from a stay at the Dolphin and HRH, too! I have to agree on the beds!! They were very comfy at HRH. FOTL can't be beat either!!

We were in the West wing, also, at the Dolphin....a great place to be!!

Loved the Refillable mugs and the 20% discount at Tubbis and Dolphin Fountain with the DC card!!:D

It's funny you said that about closing the pool at Dolphin because the same thing happened twice with us at HRH. They blew the whistle and we're looking around going "where's the storm?" It finally blew in about 20 minutes later. Better safe than sorry, tho, IMHO.

Glad you both had good trips. Did either of you try for an upgrade at the HRH or the Dolphin?

We're staying at the HRH and Dolphin in July. We've been to the HRH before, but this will be our first stay at the Dolphin. We LOVE the HRH and FOTL. Hope we like the Dolphin!
