Had a great trip in spite of the heat and the crowds and all the CM's we encountered were just great. We had a HA room and DH thought it was the best room we had ever had. It was by far much larger than regular studios. I can see how guests with small children would be outraged but for those who don't need a tub it was fine. We had the best view ever for the 9pm 4th fireworks at MGM and then we walked over to Epcot for theirs. Both were spectacular. Worth the trip just for the fireworks.
We used ME and that experience was flawless, and really did enhance the whole experience. I was a little nervous but all bags arrived and everything was perfect. The buses do make reference to tips as previously posted and we tipped even though they didn't handle any bags for us. Most did not appear to tip, even those with many bags (non participating airlines I'm sure).
The staff was Mears and they were all great. Not sure who handles the resort air check-in. They seemed a little green but were very freindly and did everything right. We did not tip as they were working in a team and it was too confusing in deciding who to tip, so we let it go. We did feel guilty though.
The ride was fun with the video both ways. DH said he hopes Disney would offer this service from now on, and he usually vetoed me when I would suggest Mears. So if nothing else, maybe they have learned a lot from this "Disney" experience and will continue their great customer service when this ends.
We did Soarin twice and saw the new stunt show. Soarin was spectacular and the stunt show was very good. We did little else but walk around, because of the heat and crowds. Even EMH was impossible. It was our first time since this has been offered and we walked into MGM & Epcot and turned around and left. They were both busier than during the day. I'm sure it works fine just not on peak times/holidays.
I am going to make 2 negative comments. Not at Disney or DVC but at other guests. Our view over looked Keister pool and as soon as the lifeguard left evey night people were diving and running and jumping and performing unsafe actions. They were also very noisy every night and the night before we left I heard them hooping and hollaring until after 1am (I fell asleep so I have no idea how late it went on). The night before that a man across the way from us stepped out on his balcony I'd say about 11pm and hollared for them to shut up as he was trying to sleep. They were so loud I know they did not even know he was there. I know this is a vacation resort and people are allowed to have fun and should, but people acting in an unsafe manner and being disrespectful of people trying to sleep at this hour is really unacceptable.
The second is what the CM who checked us in said, and it reminded me of the thread about the CM resort manager who hates DVC members and switched to one of the non-DVC resorts. This story just adds to it. DH asked the girl how full the resort was when we checked in about 7:30 on Sunday (3rd). She said the resort was at 100% capacity. He said just this resort? No, she said, every single resort on property. Wow!!!! She went on to say she had a DVC member who checked in on Saturday who did not like his view. She told him they were fully booked and he would not take no for an answer. He told her he was not leaving her face until he saw her make a phone call to a supervisor to get him another room. Needless to say she was not lying, there were no rooms. I'm sure our HA room was our luck of the draw. No kids, we made a better fit than someone with little kids. We didn't mind, esp. knowing that it may have otherwise made for a bad trip for another family. Maybe that's another reason they are now asking for children's ages. We never even would have considered a "view" prior to DVC let alone one so specific. It was 10/night more or less. That was it, you either paid for pv or you didn't. The thought never went any further than that. People just need to get over this view thing. How many of these people go back to the store they bought a lottery ticket and demand the winning ticket. Not every room is a winner every time either. Maybe that's what they should do. Put room numbers in a drum and everyone pulls out a ticket upon arrival. What you pick is what you get. Maybe people would feel like they have more control over things that way and the last one's in for the night don't get what's left because they were swapped out all day before they arrived and got stuck with what's left.
All in all a magical trip. Any questions, I'll be happy to answer.
