We got back on Sunday, and I debated on whether I should give my thoughts on the BWV. What the heck, I will.

We own at OKW, and love it. We had this Christmas trip booked since the spring and were planning on staying at OKW. On our summer trip, our DD decided she loved the night time activities of the boardwalk and really wanted to stay there. We waitlisted and received a studio for our vacation, but kept it a surprise from DD.

If you remember,(and I don't expect you too :D ), I was asking before we left about a rental car Vs. limo service. Well, the day before we left, we decided to go ahead with the rental car. We used it, although not asmuch as I thought we would. We valet parked it, and there was never a long wait for the car when we needed it. Thanks for all your thoughts on the subject!!

Anyway, we got to the BWV at 3pm, and our room was not ready. We were all hungry, so we went to the boardwalk, got a snack, and at 4 pm went back to see if the room was ready. It was!! We had room 5055, which overlooked the village green, the boardwalk and Spaceship Earth!! DD thought this was just great!! The room was in excellent condition. The rug in front of the refrig was a bit wet, but that did not bother us. This room is not far from the elevators! I just imagined as I was checking in having to walk so far to get to the room, but not this time. :D

We were able to see the high fireworks from Illuminations, not the low ones. Every night, except 2, we were on our balcony watching. We all loved the extra 10 minutes of holiday fireworks!! Some nights the music from Illuminations was so loud we could hear it on our balcony!! There was music every night at 8pm on the village green, and DH enjoyed sitting on the balcony and listening. The music was Christmas carolers, an ensemble of bell ringers playing carols, flutists, etc. You get the idea. DD had gotten sick, and I needed the room to have a full cleaning before the scheduled day. I called down to housekeeping and the woman I spoke with had no idea how to handle this. I then spoke to her supervisor, and they were at my door within 10 minutes!! We were not ready to leave for the park yet, so they came back.

We saw every act that was on the boardwalk, and my kids really loved it. They also loved the arcade, both at the resort and at the ESPN zone.

I did have to do laundry, so I ventured down there one night. There are 3 washers, 2 of which were empty. I proceeded to do the laundry, wash and dry, and was there about 2 hours. Now remember I said one of the washers had clothes in it? The person never came back in the 2 hours I was there to get the laundry and dry it. Excuse me while I rant for a minute, but it bothers me...I did not have to remove the laundry to use the machine but keeping wet clothes in it for 2 hours is ridiculous!! What if there was a line for the machines?? And it was only the 2 hours while I was there! Who knows how long they had been there before and after I left!! One more thing as well...the room itself was clean, but some people are just slobs!! If you wash your clothes and use powder detergent and it spills, please clean it up. The tops of the washers were all messy with powder detergent. Just get a paper towel or a napkin and throw it away!! Okay, feel better now. Just a peeve I have that stems from my college days I guess.

So that's my thoughts on ur stay at the BWV. I enjoyed our stay but am anxious to return to OKW.

Thanks for the report!

The laundry thing is a big pet peeve of mine too going back to my college dorm days! People used to do that all the time! I personally wouldn't do it, but others just take the clothes out and throw them on top of the machine.

What a nice way to celebrate Christmas! Thank you for sharing your trip report with us.

Thanks for the report! Was your reservation preferred garden or preferred boardwalk? I was in 5051 earlier this month and had booked preferred boardwalk.

I hate the laundry thing too. When DH and I first go married we lived in a large apartment building in NJ. If you were not there to take your clothes out of the washing machine, others removed them for you. People would come down and find their wet clothes thrown on the folding table or on top of the washer. I always stayed. :D

How did the dryers dry the clothes? When we were there the dryers worked very poorly. Just wondering.

I would have no qualms about removing someone's clothes. (I would wipe off the surface before setting them on it.) Most people don't care and I wouldn't either. I'm too old to believe in cooties. If you don't want me to take your clothes out, either wait or get back before they're done.

I think I'm a considerate person, but enough is enough and this is one issue I'm not gonna get ulcers over.

Thanks for the thoughtful trip report. What did you miss most not staying at OKW? Was it your first time to stay at another place?

Thanks,
Lisa :flower:

I don't think there was one thing I can say that I missed most about OKW while staying at the Boardwalk. I think I just like the feel of OKW. This was the first time staying at another resort, and I would try other DVC resorts without question.

I think it might have had something to due with the type of room. In July we were in a 1 BR and this was a studio. I think in the future 1 BR are the way to go for us!

Lisa,

Just curious as to your kids feelings about the two? Did they like one over the other? It sounds like you all had so much to see and do at BWV all the time, OKW seems so much more laid back. I would think most kids would prefer the action. Just wondering from a kids prespective, which one they would choose again?

My kids liked both resorts. The downer on this trip that it was cool so they did not get to use the pool. Plus, they were both sick with nasty colds, so I wouldn't have let them swim anyway. They loved the arcade and the activities on the BW, but they also like OKW. Can't go by the kids I guess.

I have been thinking more about this than I probably should, and like I said, I like them both. For me, I think I like the laid back style of OKW more than anything else. I have been going to WDW for a long time, and always have done commando style touring. All that ended with our DVC purchase, so I think the laid back feel is more of a vacation to me.

If I was waiting for an empty washer or dryer and there appeared to be an "orphaned" load, I would probably go back to the room and get a clean, plastic trash bag, load the clothes into it, and leave it on the tabletop or place it on top of the equipment it was in when I found it. It is inconsiderate to throw a load in a washer/dryer used by who-knows-how-many and then head to the parks for the day (or whatever). Hopefully the owners wouldn't have a problem with this.

Thanks for the fab report! You really got a wonderful room! You make me homesick for BWV - can't wait to return in Feb.

We have also come to the same conclusion that one bedrooms are the way to go. It is more of a vacation having all the extra room (plus your own washer and dryer!)

Wow, a lot of you sure have been traumatized by college laundry rooms :D I stayed at VWL this year, and never met another person in the laundry room, except for the last day when I did my laundry for the trip home(OK, that's my pet peeve-dirty laundry in my suitcase). I got a laugh out out an obviously clueless man talking to an equally clueless woman about how he is buying 1000 pts so he can stay 4 months at VWL next winter. He was disappointed in the accommodations, but, hey, the kids liked the studio. I was so tempted to tell him that 1000 pts wouldn't get him more than 2 months, and you'd still have to switch resorts, but why waste my breath? :charac2:

If the clothes were in the washer and I needed a washer I would have popped the clothes in the dryer and then used the washer (since it wouldn't have cost me anything)...It they were in the dryer and I needed it; I would have popped the stuff neatly on the folding table...

I think you can be careful and courtesous...

Glad you enjoyed the BWV...It is my home resort and I LOVE IT!!

I'm an OKWowner/lover but when I stayed at BWV I didn't miss OKW at all. And I won't miss BWV when I stay at OKW.
