We stayed 3 nights at the BCV in a 2 BR dedicated unit, on the second floor. We checked in at 11:00am and our room was ready!

We had a limited view of Illuminations-- at the end of the balcony. (I was really tickled about the view because I wasn’t sure what type of view we would get as we are "room roulette players" :) ) Our room had an awesome balcony which extended across the full length of the 2BR room unit. The weather was really great. During the day we had temps in the 80s and in the evening, the temps cooled off to around 70 making it very pleasant to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the fireworks.

On the Cool-O-Meter, the BCV always pegs off the scale when it comes to location. The location of BCV was the reason we finally decided to join DVC. Walking back to the room from EPCOT in just 10 or 15 minutes was just great. We made many quick visits over to EPCOT, among them we enjoyed walking over for the F & W festival and dinner ressies for Bistro and a quick ride on Mission Space ( for DH and DS ).

On this trip, we stopped by Publix and purchased $57.00 worth of groceries. We bought fixings for 2 breakfasts, snacks and drinks (It was so nice to have a freezer to freeze our bottled waters and have nice delicious ice cold water at the parks). This was a great savings for us because just one breakfast at the resorts typically costs us around $50.00. We also ordered pizza one night and found that we had enough leftovers for another meal. It was so cool to have a refrigerator in which to store the leftovers.

And how about this: I had been reading on the restaurant boards about a glass slipper dessert. It looked so pretty and delicious, I decided to try to order some for my family and friends. I tracked down a number for BCV private dining and ordered the desserts two days in advance (you are supposed to order them in advance so they can get all the things they need to put the dessert together). I wanted to have them delivered ahead of time—at lunchtime so they would be in place for dinner (actually, it would have been best to have them delivered just before they were to be served because of the special raspberry sauce—but it was my first experience with them). Long story short, we were running late so I called the private dining number (from the MK) and asked if they could put the desserts in the refrigerator for us—which they did.

The Glass Slipper Dessert can be ordered from Y & BCprivate dining...

***************Stuff that went wrong and was fixed right away**************

1. We had the sheets changed out in the master BR on our arrival night--because the bottom sheet looked dirty and the top sheet had a tear in it. Housekeeping came up and changed the sheets out very promptly.
2. We had a water leak under the sink (a water supply line). I don't know how long the leak was there--but, it smelled kind of funny under the sink when we arrived--I attributed it to the trash receptacle being stored there. But, by the morning of the next day, there was an accumulation of water under there---and a steady drip (I mopped up the water and then put dry paper towels under the sink to identify from where the leak was originating). I called it in to engineering and told them that I didn't think this repair should be put off too long as this water was under pressure and it would be a real pain if it failed completely.... This problem was fixed while we were out and everything was put back right by the time we had returned from the parks.

3. We had a light go out in the bathroom. I called it in and it was replaced while we were out at the parks.

********** Skip this part if you don’t want to read my nags*************

Some other nags which need to be addressed and which I plan to follow up in a letter to Jackie (does anyone have an address for Jackie?): What I hope to achieve by this letter? Since we are owners, I figure we have a responsibility to make sure things get set right. Maybe this is just an odd occurrance, but if its not, I think its good to document it.
I thought about addressing this with housekeeping, but I think these may be bigger issues that deal with the processes. For example, mold does not grow overnight. Is it the wrong kind of grout they are using that makes it difficult to clean? Should they be applying some other type of cleaner during the weekly cleanings? Our specific room (I've posted pictures in which the resolution has been drastically reduced, so I'm not sure how much detail can be seen on the internet pictures--Jackie will get the high resolution picutures):
1. Mold in the master BR shower--(should never happen).

2. Stains on the dining room seats. Housekeeping should be doing a spot cleaning as a minimum and it doesn't look like they are. The dining room bench seat was not anchored and could be lifted easily. Now, they look like they could use the full treatment.

3. The couch cushions in the living room also could use a good cleaning or a spot cleaning as a minimum. Now, they look like they could use the full treatment.

A couple of things we noticed in the BCV public areas (These would be engineering problems, I guess) :
1. There was a huge gouge in the wall on the corridor that we took to get to our room. The location of this hole in the wall was outside the door marked “castmembers only” just around the corner from the trash and recycle room on the 2nd floor. In the 4 days we were there, nothing had been done to fix it. I wondered how long it had been there.

2. There is a drain located near the quiet pool that was not draining properly. There was standing water in that area the whole time we were there.

The water had started to evaporate by the time I took a picture….

Despite the nags, it was a great trip. We have decided that we want to go this time every year!

Can you tell me if you had two queens or a sofa sleeper in your second bedroom? Also, could you see the canal and alligator from your room?

pnelson,
We had a Queen and sofa sleeper in our 2nd BR.

We couldn't see the canal and alligator from our room. I have not seen the alligator, yet (I may not be looking in the right place for him, though :) ).

I was amazed at the turtles that were in the canal. (We saw them as we were walking on the bridge over the canal.) I couldn't believe how big they were!

Sounds like you had a good time.

Sorry for the problems:(

There is NO excuse for standing water like that-especially since there are notices in all the rooms now warning about diseases spread by mosquitos.

Sounds like you had a good trip despite the problems. Thank for posting the pics and also for letting Jackie know. They need to hire someone like you to go through and look at these things. I have been to BCV 4 times now and have not seen any mold so I thought people were exaggerating, so thanks for the pic, that is just gross.

I'm wondering if other resorts are having these problems? I am also wondering if these are isolated problems, or widespread at BCV.

Also, could it be that the cleanings are not as thorough at BCV because a majority of the guests are staying on points, and they already have all the money that they're going to get out of us for these rooms? I would hope that is not the case since these resorts are slated to revert back to Disney control at the end of the contract. It is food for thought though.

Thanx for the report dcfromva, and also a big thank you for taking the pics and bringing it to Jackie's attention. Indeed you are correct that the responsibility is ours to make things right.

I am glad you enjoyed your trip...

DemoBri1,
That is an interesting point you make. The trouble is my experience is just one data point. I figure if everytime there is a problem and it is reported and documented, then there will be more with which to work. I don't know exactly how the process works, but I'm fairly sure that if others encounter the same types of problems and bring it to the attention of those who can fix it--then Disney will fix it. (And this room could be that odd occurrance, too--especially when lots of others have not had similar problems..)

If you don't mind my asking, how much did Y&BC Private Dining charge for each of the Glass Slipper Desserts? Did it taste as good as it looks?

When you called and asked for a "Glass Slipper Dessert", did they immediately know what you meant (since I don't think it is on their normal printed menu)?

I didn't think of that but what a great idea. It always takes me 1 or 2 days to fix the room up,

but I never thought of taking pictures of the really big stuff, so they could be followed up on later.

So if anyone has Jackie's address, please let us know too.

I think the members could help maintain the quality of our homes by using pictures to back up our issues / complaints. They are harder to ignore.

I move up her address - it is on the address for complaint. If I was bright I would send a link here....

We had an experience at BWV where it was obvious housekeeping had been cutting corners regularly....but our rooms this past trip were perfect (BCV and BWV).

I think things like the mold and staining are because of a few factors....first, the units don't get a full cleaning every day. I know in my own home (we live in a very humid area) if I don't take care to clean out the shower daily and run the fan to dry it all out we get gunk that shows up within a few days. We got some of what your picture shows when I was away for a week in Aug. and my dh didn't keep up with things the way I do. But the fact that it was missed during the previous cleaning shows that the housekeeper didn't do the cleaning properly for whatever reason and that needs to be address. Also, mold stains are a real ***** to get out! (self edited) Not that it shouldn't be done...but I can see where a housekeeper who is pressured to get as many rooms done as soon as possible may cut corners.

I think the spots on the chairs and sofas are a similar issue...a member can be in a room for 8 days at a time before cleaning is done...and by then spots can be nearly impossible to get out. Plus, spot cleaning would lead to guests ending up with damp furniture (and possible mold issues...) It may be that their policy is to replace furniture as needed or send it out for full cleaning rather than spot clean. Its really kind of hard to keep perfect at all times. But housekeeping should be making note of these things as well...

I do think its best that members make the management aware of these issues...because I don't really think they know unless they are told. And sending pictures is a great idea....you can't ignore them or not take them seriously.

Oh, and about the gouge in the wall....I almost wonder if the regular workers just haven't made note of it. I noticed that in our studio there were bumpers to prevent this from happening at various spots. Definitely something I'd make them aware of because they obviously do try to prevent this kind of damage.

When I see the picture of the mold and the stains, it makes me wonder if they would reconsider the housekeeping schedule. Are those things part of the contract, like the bed configuration, and thus set in stone?

Bobbi:confused:

I could not locate an address for "Jackie". Who is she, exactly, and how do we contact her. I sent a "constructive criticism" letter to DVC, and would like to forward a copy of that letter to Jackie.

dcfromva - thanks for posting! The desserts looked delicious. I would also like more information regarding the cost of this. As for the problems I wouldn't consider them nags. Lightbulbs burn out so not a big deal but mold in the shower is unacceptable! We pay maintenance dues and mousekeeping should be doing a better job making sure the rooms are meeting the expected standards of all WDW hotels. I'm glad you took pictures. I'm going to remember that for our next trip. Annmarie

We were at BCV Oct 11-16 and had no real housekeeping issues. I wonder if some of it is coming more often as they are trying to have rooms ready before the stated check in of 4 and therefore are cutting corners to save time. It sounds as if that villa got a half cleaning if that what with mold and questionable sheets.
We thought maybe the alligator had been moved somewhere else becasue we did not see him anywhere those days and we checked the canal and along the bank where we saw him last year but no luck. I went back to check with lost and found our last day (we had moved to VWL for our last night) and was standing on the bridge by the quiet pool when I said to my son and his girl friend - I really missed seeing "cracker" (the kids named him that last year) I wish he was still here- Talk about a Disney moment - as I looked down up he popped- and boy has he grown in one year! He posed for awhile and then we had to leave but I am glad he is alive and well.

Hi.

I know this theory has been mentioned before, but since DVC resorts are usually only cleaned once a week vs. every day at regular resorts it seems that it would be more difficult to clean a weeks worth of "dirt" vs. one day. Also, nothing wears out a carpet faster than dirt ground in.

Would it be less expensive to have housekeeping twice a week vs. once a week because the units will require less frequent rehab?

This place is only a year and a half old!

I also want to know how to order the White Chocolate Slipper. What is the phone number? How much was it?

I never knew you could order something like that to be delivered to your room and have them put it in your fridge! What a neat surprise to have waiting for my girls when we return from the parks!

SamR,

I don't have a break down in the pricing but I looked on my CC statement, it was $81.63 for 6 desserts (this includes the tax, gratuity and room delivery charge).

The dessert was very rich (and delicious). As it turned out my family of 3 could have been happy to just split 1 between us. (DS decided he would rather eat apples with caramel dip :)) . DH and I could not finish our desserts. Our friends also tried their best to finish theirs (but it is a LOT of chocolate :) ).

In regards to ordering it--I really had an interesting experience. I started off by calling a number at the Grand Floridian (I copied down the number from a post on the restaurants board where I first saw this wonderful dessert)--but since we were staying at BCV, I was transferred over to the pastry chef at the Y & BC! (I spoke to Stephan). Anyway, I explained I was looking for the Glass Slipper dessert (made out of chocolate) and he knew exactly what I wanted. He told me that I had to order it through BCV private dining, but not to worry, he would take care of me and he took down my name. By the time I had called BCV private dining (407) 934-3105, he had already called them and told them to expect my call-- and the order process went without a hitch.
It was a special treat for us.
