We had the FL resident rate - $45. When we got there dh asked about law enforcement discounts and we got that too. It ended up being $39. I was thrilled, until we got to our rooms. We didn't get anywhere near the building we wanted (Jazz). First they put us in Broadway and when we opened the door the cigarette smoke smell just about knocked us off our feet. I requested non-smoking. I called the front desk and asked for a different room. They put us in Country Fair (the farthest from the foodcourt/buses). There was mildew on the shower curtain and the grout. My MIL next door called to complain about a comforter in her room. It looked like someone had vomited on it. YUCK!

We stayed at Music about 4 years ago and were very happy there. I guess things have gone downhill since then. The last few years we have been staying at Movies, but since the price was better at Music we decided to do that instead. Never again. I will pay the extra money to stay at Movies or Pop Century next time.

I'm sorry that you didn't have a good stay at ASMu :(. I personally think the resort is too spread out for my taste, I would hate to be in the Country Fair building. Last weekend, as you know, was very busy and I'm sure that every single room was booked at the resort. Unfortunately, that doesn't leave very many rooms to move people to when they have problems :(.

We just got back Monday night. We stayed at ASMu also. I guess we were lucky...I got everything I requested...non-smoking, king bed in Jazz. We had no complaints about our room.

Unfortunately as others have said you can't always get the location you want if the resort is busy. The only way to guarantee being close to Melody Hall is to book the preferred rate.
There is no excuse for unclean bedding. Gross. :earseek:

I'm sorry your stay wasn't what you expected.

But your choice of Jazz non-smoking was really stacked against you. There are only 192 rooms in that building. Of those maybe 20% of them opened up on your arrival day. That's 38 available rooms. Now consider that since the beginning of the $10 per night "preferred location" charge for Calypso, Jazz has become the single most requested building at ASMu. There were probably a hundred people (or more) there that also requested Jazz. So during a busy time you really didn't stand anything more than a very long shot of getting it anyway. That's why they don't guarantee requests.

I do hope that your MIL got a new bedspread without any problems and the rest of your vacation away from the resort was enjoyable.

Have you seen the bathroom wall paper in the ASMU Jazz bathrooms??

It is just plain frightening!! There are Men All over it,yuck...plus there is one that stares at you while you shower, and when you need to use the potty. It was gross!!

I will never stay at ASMU ever again even if they gave me 10 nights free.

We stayed at ASMu in Oct and even though we really enjoyed our trip......I was not crazy about ASMu.
We too had a moldy shower curtain.....it took 3 days to get them to change it!
I just thought that was totally unacceptable....come-on....a shower curtain costs what...maybe $5!!!!
It's things like that, that really irritate me.:(

We prefer Movies!

I am sorry your trip to ASMu was not the best but I think you just got unlucky, unfortuantely. I stay at ASMu all the time when I am in Orlando for business and I have always had a great room. I was just there mid to the end of Sept and was in the Broadway building, my room was immaculate and housekeeping was wonderful. I prefer ASMu over Sports and Movies because it gets less young children so the resort is more adult orientented and quieter. I do prefer Movies food court though. Sports I do not like at all, sorry Sports fans but to me the theming of this resort is ugly.

We were allocated a smoking room in 2001 at ASMo - it was horrid and were stuck with it for two days/nights as the resort was full. Giving them a chance to redeem themselves this July.

Sports is my Favorite....this is why I stay here ALL the time! This past weekend I had Building 10 (football) and had a GREAT room and GREAT location--one building away from the food court!:bounce: Did NOT have to pay EXTRA either!;)

You must have had the same room we were in! We stayed at ASMu on 11/8 because we got in so late I decided to give it a try at the $49 AP rate. We were also in Country Fair, room #6628. The location wasn't that bad since it was quiet, but the room did not meet my already low expectations -- we had the moldy shower curtain, a cleaning fluid smell, and some kind of powder/sand/sugar on the floor.

We checked in at midnight and I had to wait 20 minutes in line to check in. That started things off on a bad note (pun intended.)

The decor did nothing for me -- next time I want to save a few $ I'll do it at Port Orleans!

We were in room #6440 Country Fair. We checked in around 5pm on Friday 11/8. My husband just told me that the cast member who checked us in made a mistake and we really didn't get a law enforcement discount. Apparently she thought that law enforcement was the same as military and gave us the military discount and then had to take it away when her supervisor noticed the mistake.

I just can't believe Disney would have mildew in the bathrooms. Is there an email address where I could send a complaint? I'm sure some "higher-ups" would probably like to know about this problem so they could fix it.

Flordia heat + humidity= mildew. It's a fact of life in the south.

sha_lyn......absolutely agree.....heat + humidity = mildew.
BUT.....there are ways to clean it!
And to keep a mildewy shower curtain hanging....that just isn't neccessary. If it won't wash off, then throw the thing away. They really don't cost that much!

Sorry you had a room you didn't like. Something like that can completely ruin your stay!

I do have to say that on both our stays at POR we had moldy bathroom areas. Maybe I'll take some Tilex with me in Aug!!

ALL Disney resorts have mold in the bathrooms not just the cheap resorts. Not Every stay, and I have seen little to lots before, but they really need to do a lot better job in this area. We were in a 1-br in Sept at BWV and there was SOOOOOOOOOOO much mold in the shower that we dared not touch anything. When we opened the door of the room you could smell the bleach. The floors (ceramic in the kitchen and both sides of the bathroom) were still wet and the jacuzzi and sinks (yes 2 of them) were gleeming. We would have complained except the maid had cleaned the rest of the room so well that we didn't want to get her in trouble. I can't imagine they don't see what the rest of us see but this is a real health issue. With all the fungus related illnesses and other bacterial related diseases this is a major health concern. They need to spray the whole shower/tub area with a bleach solution. It is the only chemical that kills everything.

msdis .... I don't understand your post ... you could smell the beach and see that the surfaces were still damp with it, but feel that they didn't use bleach on the tub/shower.

Mold stains surfaces very easily too. You can kill the spores but the colr often remains. This is very true on grout. I really don't understand why anyone would put tile in a shower in the "deep south". It is impossible to keep it from staining. I know from first hand experience.

we stayed at the ASMu back in september and had no issues whatsoever! at check in, the CM wanted to put us in Jazz, but i actually wanted to be in Broadway. so we sacrificed our king bed for 2 doubles so that we could be where we wanted. we were on the 3rd floor overlooking the yellow taxi cab in the courtyard area. we could see the piano pool from our room too...we really enjoyed our stay...

but next time, we will be upgrading to something with a slightly larger room. hubby likes to have those extra amenities when he can!
