Just got back from an awesome (but short) anniversary trip to HHI. Checked in Friday, had 1 bedroom in the Main building, same floor as the check in area. This was our first trip to HHI - what a beautiful place.

Got there about 4:30 PM, room was ready, but we had to wait a few minutes for maintenance. Apparently the key/lock was not speaking to the keys and the door couldn't be unlocked. They had maintenance on it immediately and the manager of the day walked over with us to make sure everything was OK.

Room was handicapped (which we didn't need), but I wasn't really stressed over it as the resort was sold out and I was glad to get in at all. The manager said if there were any issues with water on the floor, to use the towels and he would put it on our record to provide us with extra towels, no charge, if we needed them.

When we got there we found a balloon bouquet and Anniversary card from the resort and a Mickey towel animal on the bed. I didn't even remember that I had mentioned our Anniversary, except to Chef Gordon when we booked A Private Affair.

Ate Friday at the Garden Oak Grill. I've not seen this place mentioned on the boards, but it was wonderful: ambience, service, food. I would recommend it to anyone. The front desk had recommended the Old Oyster Factory, but when we pulled up there were lines just to park! Looked like the MK parking lot on a bad day. We were very tired from the trip and hungry and didn't want to deal with it, so we pulled out of the lot and sort of stumbled on the Garden Oak down the road. Again, it was great!

Saturday, of course, we had reserved the Private Affair with Chef Gordon. It was just awesome and a great way to celebrate our anniversary.

Checked out Tuesday morning and got home last night. There is tons to do on the Island, though we didn't do much. Drove out one day to see the lighthouse, the Plantation ruins and the Salty Dog, walked around the marina, did a little sightseeing (DH calls it sightseeing, I think we were just lost!) - mostly we were just lazy. A perfect vacation for 2 stressed out people!

I would recommend HHI to anyone. I'm not sure how soon we'll go back. Because of air connections and timing it literally takes us 2 days of travel each way to get to HHI. So we were either flying or driving 4 days to get 3 days and 4 nites at HHI. We decided to call it a "road trip" and make the travel a part of the vacation (it's all in the attitude), but I'm not sure we'd want to do it every year! Because we just wanted non-work time and time together for rest and talking it worked for us.

Any questions, let me know and I'll try and answer them.

Thnaks for your report, and, Happy Anniversary!!!
