Just returned from our week long trip to the AKL. What beautiful weather 80 to 85 everyday 75 at night. At check in we ask how much more would it be to upgrade to conceierge well it was about 250.00 more a night which I thought was a total rip off. We were booked for pool view and had ask if there were any upgrades to Savanna view she rudely said NO. We have 3 rooms book and we all go up to our rooms #4454, 4456 and 4458. They were in a pretty good location. Our room has bunk beds in it and my DD 4yrs is thrilled well all she wanted to do was climb up and down and finally she fell on my DS 1yrs. So we call down and ask to move because we did not want any big accidents to happen. They move us one room over for one night and was going to move us to the 3rd floor the next day. What a pain in the butt. I can't unpack anything because we have to send our baggage to bell services the next morning. We go off the nex day to the MK and return around 9:00pm. Check in AGAIN and they ended up putting us in room 3415 and 3413 Savanna view and just a few steps from the lobby. My parents had stay up on the 4th floor and now wishes they moved with us. Overall we had a great trip and we do love the AKL.

Sounds like you had a great trip!

It is funny that you wrote about the bunk bed situation. We booked the WL for Sept. and requested a bunk bed despite my better judgement. I am sure that all my 21/2 yr old ds will want to do is climb up and down for hours at a time which will surely result in some kind of fall and injury. My dh disagrees and says that he will get sick of it after the first day.

Well, it sounds as if the AKL was pretty accomodating to your problem even though changing rooms was a big pain.

Welcome Home ::wave2:

I am taking my first trip to AKL in June with DD 4 and DS 2.Did you request that room type or they just assigned it to you? Definitely do not want bunkbeds. Geesh, an Orlando emergency room visit would not be a welcomed addition to our trip.

We are also staying in a Savannah room. How was your view and what floor were you on???

Denise

We too had bunks at AKL last December. I worried about my 3 year old twins climbing them. ( DS 9 was the one sleeping in the top bunk) let me tell you they never did get sick of climbing them, I don't think I will book bunks again until they are about 12!!!

I requested bunk beds for our future trip.
I hope the climbing stops with age - mine will be
14 and 11 - DS & DD - will not sleep in same bed.

On the side - how was the pool ?

How about the food - normal american food available ?
burgers ? hot dogs ? pizza ?

Price of refillable mugs ?
Can be filled with what ?

Glad to hear you still had a good time - even with the
room change. ;)

thanks for the info

pooh2001>> here are the menus for AKL

http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm#res

At Mara, there is seating inside, seating outside with the pool in the background, or you can get your items to go (they'll even give you a decent bag to put it all in) and eat in your room while watching the animals from your private balcony!

I'm interested too! We are leaving soon for a week's long stay at AKL. If the food court doesn't have the "Normal American Fare", my kids will go nuts. We LOVE the food court at POR and are worried about the choices at AKL.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated!

 thanks!!

The AKL does have American fare at it's foodcourt ,although it's not quite as large as the moderates and the All-Stars. There are 2 really great restaurants there..be sure to try them you won't be disapointed.

The food court at AKL(mara) is a little on the smallish side...they do have the standard american fare typical of other food courts...I believe the refillable mugs are running about $11 or $12 now and they can be filled in mara(I think that's the only place unless maybe at the pool bar)....you can have unlimited soda, tea, coffee and a few other things for the duration of your stay with the mugs...the pool is nice at AKL...it has the feel of a "watering hole" on the savannah....it is a zero depth early pool meaning it's like walking into a natural lake(no stairs) and has a descent slide on one end....if you're lucky, sometimes you can actually see animals from the pool...I have a picture somewhere where you can see us in the pool and a giraffe on the savannah in the background...pretty cool...btw: if you want the most convenient pool view room at AKL; try to get #1456....two words: the best.

At the Mara don't be afraid to ask for something that's not shown on the picture menu. We ordered a plain pizza(all that was shown is chicken pizza) and they even made my daughter a grilled cheese one night. They were very helpful and nice there.

Had a Deluxe Savanna view room - #5383 - King Bed and Day Bed/Couch/Rollaway combo - was near the end of the hall and faced into the semi-circle

It was a beautiful room and view

thanks

My DH wont sty at the AKL he doesnt like it. He thinks it looks too dark. We went there for a meal at Boma and he did like the food though. I do like the look of the rooms and would like to stay there one day.

I know there is alot of talk about AKL upgrades on this board, but I just read on another board that someone who stayed at AKL in Jan. saw a sign at front desk that read No Upgrades, Don't ask! Did you see any such sign while you were there? Just wondering if they are getting sick of all the people asking due to reading about them on the message boards.

Hi,

Sounds like you had a great trip!!! Mom & I will be there in May!! Can't wait!

Allison
