Hi All,
We got back last night from 5n/6d at the AKL in a Concierge room. This was out best trip to WDW ever. Not that we have ever had a bad trip but this one was just better then the rest. We had good timing also as we landed about this time yesterday afternoon and the news just announced that due to the 15inches of snow that is falling here in Boston Logan Airport is closed indefinetly. I think we are luckly because we also flew home on Sept 10th, 2001 from a WDW trip.
But, to get back to our trip. This was our third stay at the AKL but our first on a Concierge Floor. We had a medical request for a non-smoking room and a view of the Ausha Savanna. Both requests were granted as we were given room 5427 on the Zebra Trail. We had a great view from our room and could see many different types of animals at different times throughout the day. The two best times were about 7am give or take and around 5pm when the truck would come out to put out more browse.
The service we received from the Concierge staff was amazing. Big thumbs up to Don who remembered our names and the type of wine I would drink during the 5pm offerings. Don is everything a Concierge is suppossed to be. The whole staff was great but Don just had the little extra Disney touch.
We did the Sunrise Safari on Tuesday the 4th and it was great. We got amazing pictures of the animals and the two keepers that guided the tour were outstanding. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and I also got to meet some fellow DISers. I hope I get the names right; I believe I met Sharon and here husband and Rickey and his wife and two children. Very nice people. The safari costs $49.95 per person and my husband and I both agree that it was the best $100 we have ever spent.
Begining of Feb is now our fav time of year to visit. Not only is everything a walk on but the temps are comfortable. It was between 40 to 50 degrees in the morning so jeans and a sweatshirt would do and between noon and 3pm it would get up into the hight 60s to mid 70s and you peal off the sweatshirt and the breeze would keep you confortable. When the sun goes down it dips into the 50s again.
It was a great trip! Did I say how great it way?
Does anyone have any specific questions? I would be happy to answer any questions that anyone may have.
We got the come back card and booked a water view room at the YC for our Aug 30th through Sept 8th trip. The rate is $207 plus tax. I was told that the standard view was not available during the dates I wanted. We might end up switching back to a regular savanna view room at the AKL if I can get it cheaper with an AP rate then I can get a room at the YC.
So ask away.
