Hi All,

We got back last night from 5n/6d at the AKL in a Concierge room. This was out best trip to WDW ever. Not that we have ever had a bad trip but this one was just better then the rest. We had good timing also as we landed about this time yesterday afternoon and the news just announced that due to the 15inches of snow that is falling here in Boston Logan Airport is closed indefinetly. I think we are luckly because we also flew home on Sept 10th, 2001 from a WDW trip.

But, to get back to our trip. This was our third stay at the AKL but our first on a Concierge Floor. We had a medical request for a non-smoking room and a view of the Ausha Savanna. Both requests were granted as we were given room 5427 on the Zebra Trail. We had a great view from our room and could see many different types of animals at different times throughout the day. The two best times were about 7am give or take and around 5pm when the truck would come out to put out more browse.

The service we received from the Concierge staff was amazing. Big thumbs up to Don who remembered our names and the type of wine I would drink during the 5pm offerings. Don is everything a Concierge is suppossed to be. The whole staff was great but Don just had the little extra Disney touch.

We did the Sunrise Safari on Tuesday the 4th and it was great. We got amazing pictures of the animals and the two keepers that guided the tour were outstanding. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and I also got to meet some fellow DISers. I hope I get the names right; I believe I met Sharon and here husband and Rickey and his wife and two children. Very nice people. The safari costs $49.95 per person and my husband and I both agree that it was the best $100 we have ever spent.

Begining of Feb is now our fav time of year to visit. Not only is everything a walk on but the temps are comfortable. It was between 40 to 50 degrees in the morning so jeans and a sweatshirt would do and between noon and 3pm it would get up into the hight 60s to mid 70s and you peal off the sweatshirt and the breeze would keep you confortable. When the sun goes down it dips into the 50s again.

It was a great trip! Did I say how great it way?;) Does anyone have any specific questions? I would be happy to answer any questions that anyone may have.

We got the come back card and booked a water view room at the YC for our Aug 30th through Sept 8th trip. The rate is $207 plus tax. I was told that the standard view was not available during the dates I wanted. We might end up switching back to a regular savanna view room at the AKL if I can get it cheaper with an AP rate then I can get a room at the YC.

So ask away.

We will be there in Aug and would like to do the sunrise safari also. How far out did you make arrangements?:earsgirl:

Glad you had a great stay. We loved AKL concierge last fall and just booked it again for June. Can't say enough good things about the hotel, the concierge CMs, the concierge lounge and food offerings, the Sunrise Safari and most of all the savannah view!

As soon as we booked our concierge room we were given a number for the concierge planning staff. I called that day and made arrangements. I would advise that you call as soon as your room is booked. I believe we changed our reservation to concierge the begining of Dec. The Sunrise Safari was out of this world. $49.95 per person including tax. The price is the same for adult or child.

Thanks lyncruiser. Could not agree with you more.

Hi Tiffany,
I want to stay Akl Concierge in Noember, the 7th thru the 10th but the rate I received was 479.00. I was prepared for the $300's. but not the upper $4oo's. Do codes come out for Concierge? I received this quote thru Dreams. Thanks Maryann

Hi,

We booked with an AP rate of $277 and change a night inc tax which breaks down to $249 a night plus the 11.5% tax. For winter value season this year rack rate was $425 a night plus the 11.5% tax = $473.875 a night including tax.

Check out www.mousesavers.com for all the information you can handle about codes.

Not only is everything a walk on
Did you notice any cheerleaders in the parks (College cheerleading/Dance Championships were Feb 1-2)? ~:D~

Yes. We did notice a large number of teenage girls wearing National Dance Championship shirts, backpacks or yellow tags. They did not seem to impact the crowds in the parks as we saw them in groups but all of the rides were a walk on. We rode ToT three times in a row using the standby line. There was no line. You just walked right into the preshow. We did not notice them at the lodge. The MGM closed at 5pm one night while we were there and we just assumed it was for them as we were at MGM at about 3pm that day and there were teenage girls with yellow National Dance Championship tags everywhere, but yet not really impacting the ride lines.

I guess this is my long winded way of saying yes we noticed them but they did not negativly impact our trip in any way.

Glad you had such a wonderful stay! We stayed at the AKL Concierge this past Christmas and I agree that Don is the Tops! Everyone there was nice as you mentioned but Don just is a special person! We also loved the Sunrise Safari and my DH said the same thing....best money we ever spent!!!

We just made plans to go back in Mid June and are staying once again at the AKL Concierge!

Reading your Post makes me wish the days would go faster until our trip!!!!!

Hi nutz4dzny,

I am jelous that you get to go back in June;) We are thinking of making the AKL Concierge our 5n/6d end of Jan/begining of Feb trip and the YC or a regular AKL Savanna view room our 9n/10d Sept trip. I wish we could swing both trips at the AKL Concierge but even with a great discount (we only paid $277 a night inc tax with an AP for this Feb trip) it would be tough to swing for all 14n/16d. But, what am I complaining about we still get to go to WDW twice a year.:D

Did you like the Indaba wines? I am trying to get a case shipped to my house but the AKL side they could not do it. They gave me a website and I have sent an email to a distributor in New York but a case every few months is probaly going to be too small time for them.

Welcome back!

Tifffany,

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. My DH and the girls are so spoiled now. Looks like it's AKL concierge from now on, oh well;)

The service we received from the Concierge staff was amazing. Big thumbs up to Don who remembered our names and the type of wine I would drink during the 5pm offerings. Don is everything a Concierge is suppossed to be. The whole staff was great but Don just had the little extra Disney touch.

I couldn't agree with you more. I had heard about Don from some of Janet2k's posts and was fortunate enough to talk with him during our stay. When I mentioned I had some items I wanted to ship home, he said he knew where the perfect box was. While I went back to my room to gather the items, he retrieved the box. After helping me pack everything up, we had the most wonderful talk. He mentioned he had met Deb Wills on her recent stay and knew Janet2k. He's been a Disney concierge for a while and is a wealth of information. He is so professional, courteous while remaining very warm and friendly. We can't wait to return, hopefully the end of Nov. and early Dec. if DH can get the time off.

Again, so glad you had a wonderful stay:D

Thanks for the report! :)

The AKL Concierge has a GREAT staff. Andrea and Don are so helpful. :)

Our trip is in May, and I've been talking to Andrea since December. She has been a wealth of information and a big help in my planning.

I can't wait to meet them all.

Tiffany - I LOVE Indaba wines! We are fortunate enough to have a wholesale liquor store 2 miles down the road from us in South Jersey and they sell Idaba wines! In fact, if you get a chance try the Pinotage by Indaba, it is a great red.
The purpose of our next trip is 2 fold really. Our DS who is a senior in HS is going to UCF this Fall in Orlando and we have to to Orientation sooooooooooooooo we decided to make it a Disney trip as well! Needless to say we will be visiting him quite often! LOLOLOL!

Thanks for all of the replies. I have been searching the budget since we got home to try and figure out how to get back to the AKL Concierge in Sept.

I did our tax returns today and we are getting refunds;) I don't know I will have to try and figure this out. I am so spoiled now.

Oh yeah I forgot to report that my husband saw the guy from the WDW Videos that is an imageneer that has the earring. I think is name is Joe something. We have been fastforwarding through WDW Vacation Videos and cannot find him yet. Do any of you guys know who I am referring to? I can picture him in the video talking about the AK. My husband overheard him talking to some of the Concierge Staff members and he said that funding just came through for a big project at the AK.

Forgot to add one more great thing we loved about the AKL Concierge was that package delivery was directly to our room no pick up at the Gift Shop. When you arrange package delivery at the parks they tell you to pick up at the Gift Shop so we stopped by and the CM at the Gift Shop looked in the booked and where you sign your name to pick up your package it said Concierge. She told us that they would delivery directly to our room for the length of our stay and they did. It was great. Also turndown service was so much more then just turning down the bed. We have never had turndown service before and it was almost like having housekeeping clean up your room twice in one day. They would refresh the towels from us freshing up in the afternoon and clear away and dishes or glasses we might have brought down from the Concierge Lounge to our room. It was just great. Can you guys tell how excited I am about our trip?;)

Aren't Don, Andrea and Beau the greatest. Can't wait to go back for my trip in March.

Just got back during about the same dates as you...and I agree....GREAT time to go. Great crowd level!
