I just returned from a great WDW trip! We stayed for 6 nights at AKL and 5 nights Poly. We were given an upgrade from standard to pool view at AKL after our original room was unavailable even after 5:45PM. The room was in a nice location, it was on lobby level and close to The Mara. I was a little disappointed with housekeeping this time, they didn’t leave many soaps and took our towels without replacing them. However, the stay was enjoyable … as usual :) We checked into the Poly on the morning of Oct 3rd and found ourselves waiting in a very long line. I think we waited more than 30 minutes. The CM who checked us in wasn’t very friendly … he kept rolling his eyes and forgot to give his leis. I later found from the bell staff that they were checking in nearly 200 families that day. Wow! We stayed in a GV room in Tahiti and loved it. I didn’t notice any of the moldy smells or anything else wrong with our room. Housekeeping was fantastic – they left plenty of soaps, towels and even extra garbage bags!

Overall, I think the Poly is my new favourite. It’s hard to beat the location and I loved the grounds. Any questions let me know!

we were in Samoa on Friday and Saturday night. Any ideas what happened with the volcano pool? Took the girls by after we returned Saturday evening, it was roped off with caution tape and the sign said closed for sanitizing. It was still that way when we left Sunday around lunch. Was Tahiti quiet? Samoa 3rd floor was a zoo each morning between 6:30 and 7:30AM. PArents letting their kids race down the hall screaming at the tops of their lungs. My Poly visit was a little bit disappointing due to that. Expect a little peace and quiet early in the morning. My two DD"s even remarked about those "bad kids".

Just got back myself two hours ago. Not sure what happened with the pool, must have been a really bad "protein spill".

Glad to see they made sure it was taken care of before the rushed anyone back in.
They told concierge guests we could use the Grand Floridian slide pool if we wanted to--any other longhouses given that option?

edited to add, we were in the concierge Hawaii building, and my dd runs down the hallways often, but knows not to yell ("people are sleeping, mom")

Hey Robin :) We actually left Friday morning so I'm not sure what happened to the pool. I walked by on my way to Kona and it seemed okay. Sorry to hear about noise situation. I've heard kids like that in the morning before ... at AKL and CBR. It just depends on who your neighbours are. I guess some people just don't realize that they're not the only ones on vacation. Tahiti was pretty quiet ... we had noisy neighbours but luckily they were only there for one day and they were noisy on a day when we had to be up early as well.

Do you think the Poly would be good for a relaxing, romantic holiday? I promised dbf I'd take him to akl for his first disney trip but maybe the poly would be more convenient.

I'm glad you had a great birthday trip :Pinkbounc :flower1: :flower1: :bounce:

Thanks princess pooh!

I think the Poly would be a great choice! There's a lot to do around the resort without ever leaving. I especially like the paths at night, they're lit with torches ... It's great for a romantic walk. One of my favourite things to do at night was watch Wishes from the beaches. It's not quite the same as watching from MK but at least there aren't any crowds :)

Welcome back!! Don't you just love the Poly?? I have not tried the AKL it will be a must do when my girls get older and total bus transportation is not so difficult for them (two strollers is a pain to fold and unfold that's why we liked the monorail).

We're staying at the Poly for the first time arriving on the 17th. We were bumped from the BC so they gave us a concierge room at Poly! (which was fine by me)
All of these posts are encouraging (except for the screaming kids) we'll be taking our own 2 kids, their aunt, and one set of grandparents. We're so excited, it's the first Disney visit for most of our group.

Princess Pooh,

I think the Poly would be romantic. Just sitting out on the beach at night with some wine would be nice.

I have some night time pics in my sig if you care to look.

Staying at AKL in December... one quick question.
Are fridges in all the rooms yet???:Pinkbounc

There wasn't one in my room but I've heard that you can ask for one at no charge. If there was a fridge in my room, it would have been filled with zebra domes and lots of other goodies that I probably shouldn't have been eating. :p

Wow, some of those pics look like they were taken on a tropical island! Now I just have to break it to my SO that we won't be staying with the animals :D

I hope AKL isn't going downhill though. I've read a few iffy reviews lately.

I know first hand what happened to the pool. My son was right beside the girl who threw up (for a long time) in it.

He was yelling at the top of his lungs "Everyone out of the pool, everyone out of the pool!!!" I told him to quieten down, or people would think something was wrong. He said something WAS wrong. A girl was throwing up beside him.

He refused to re-enter the pool for the remainder of the trip.

BTW, we were in Tahiti, 3rd floor.

Glad you had a good trip overall. We love the Polynesian too although checkin was very slow this July for us too. We also didn't receive any info, leis, etc.. Did your checkin day happen to be a Sunday?
