ok. so we just got in a while ago and I thought I would pop on and give my two cents since I dont have time to start/add to my pree trip report tonight. we stayed at the AKL from last sat. to this sat and here is my view:

PROS:
1.)this is the most themed resort at DIsney. I had fun looking at all the amazing details that wet into this place. vey cool
2.) service. great CM's, housekeeping was great, lots of towel animals, and we got upgraded from a standard to a savannah view b/c we asked....dont ask dont get so it never hurts!
3.)peacefulness. we were on a back savannah at the very end of teh zebra trail and it was very very quiet, no problems there.
3.)nice room size and we were given plenty of towels, shampoos, etc. etc. good details in room, etc. etc.
4.) busses we great. we waited maybe one time over 10 minutes, and io liked having the private bus that didnt go to other resorts.

CONS:
1.) Lighting. it was very dark in the rooms and hallways. in the morning i ahd to practically squish my face against teh mirror to see to put makeup on. at night we had on all the lights and CHristmas lights in the room and it was still too dark for me.
2.) lloonngg walk. as i said we were at teh END of the zebra trial, it was a HIKE! and at the end of the day it was miserable to walk that far.
3.)turn down service ppl. we requested it on our first night and said we would be there till sat. if they could do it every night. they did it the first night, not the second. so on the 3rd day we called again...said we were staying all week..we got it that night, but not teh next night...I mean come on people!
4.) the Mara. TOO SMALL! in the mornings we had to FIGHT to get a table. and we felt pressured to leave as soon as we had done eating b/c ppl were hovering over us to get our table.

I am sure I could think of other things, and will be more specific in my trip report. now dont get me wrong, we had a great stay and really enjoyed ourselaves and were glad we got to expereince this unique resort. But we will probably not be returning. I love light colors, whits and pastels, lots of windows and natural light. SO if you are a GF or SSR fan b/c of those reasons, you man not like AKL. the whole tribal thing is just not our style. no offense, we just rather other styles. I hope this does not offend anyone just my opinion. like I said, we still enjoyed the resort and the animals, it was a lot of fun, but probbaly not a repeat for us. more to come on my TR> link in the bottom of my siggy! :thumbsup2

Glad you had a nice trip, Heatherlynn. Me and BF felt much the same way about AKL and for many of the same reasons. We enjoyed it enough, but we don't plan on returning either.

Different strokes for different folks...

We love AKL! We were just there in Dec 2007 and will be returning March 2008.

We love the great exotic theme of the AKL. It offers a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and a feeling of remoteness. It is a great escape after a day at the parks. We love the Savanna with views of the animals.

Did you dine at Jiko and Boma? We rarely eat at CS, so we've only been to the Mara once. It was OK. However, Jiko and Boma are great!

Some folks prefer the decor of AKL and WL, while others prefer the decor of the Beach Club and the Boardwalk. We love them all, and own (as DVC members) at all four.

glad you like it...like I said, no offesne to people who do..it just wanst our "thing" we were on the DDP and ate breakfast at boma and it was really good. see the savannah thing was nice...but not a huge deal to me, b/c where I am from there is a place called the Global wildlife center.yuo get in a covered wagon pulled by a tractor and go through these savannahs and huge areas and they stop periodically and the animals walk right up to the wagon and stick ther heads in and you feed them the feed right out of your hands, and pet them etc. I have hugged the neck of a giraffe and had a baby one actually try and eat my hair...pet and fed llamas, all those differnt kinds of deer and cattle they had...(they wouldnt let us pet the zebra though b/c they are so mean!) all that being said, once you are able to touch and pet and feed the animls, just SEEING them outside becomes not so big of a deal ya know? i know its GREAT for kids and they love it, but for us it was just "ok".
(btw we went on the DVC tour and REALLY want to buy a SSR resale in about a year!!!)

whew sorry that was so long! lol

I hope you enjoyed your trip more than the AKL. Looking forward to your trip report. I hope your DH didn't get sick again!

We felt the same way about our AKL trip we took back before we had ds2. I even remember saying we could never share this room with kids (they seemed small). We had a savannah view and were unimpressed. I do agree though that the themeing at this resort is top notch and we enjoyed the food at Jiko and Boma. Buses took awhile though and that was back before we had kids. We are staying at CR with ds2 next month and cant wait to compare since they are both deluxe. We also love POFQ. :)

yeah it would be WAY to cramped for me with kids, which is why we are looking into DVC so when we have kids can get a one bedroom villa. you will have to let me know how the comtemporary is, its the only monorail line resort i havent stayed at
